STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The clinical success of ceramic veneers cemented with preheated composite resin has been reported to be acceptable. Although the cementing technique requires sufficient light energy to activate its polymerization, the ability of light to penetrate through ceramic restorations of different thicknesses is unclear.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the polymerization quality and bond joint thickness of a dual-component adhesive and a heated composite resin when bonding ceramic onlays of varying thicknesses.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sixty noncarious m

Limited research has been published evaluating the failure of zirconia crowns with less retentive tooth preparations. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of axial wall height (AWH) and cement type on the fracture load of cubic phase-containing zirconia crowns. Standardized crown preparations with an AWH of 0, 2, or 4 mm (n = 10) were made in 90 extracted human maxillary third molars. The preparations were scanned, and crown restorations were designed. Cubic phase-containing zirconia crowns were milled and cemented with a resin-modified glass ionomer cement, a self-adhesive res

Resin-bonded fixed partial dentures, without definitive tooth preparation and current resinous cements and perceptive treatment, have had an inordinate number of dislodgments in initial restorative efforts. A longitudinal examination of resin-bonded prostheses was performed after a mean observation time exceeding 6 years. To prevent stress fatigue fractures of the cement bondings, one proximal groove was prepared in dentin for each anterior abutment and the inner surfaces of the frameworks were silicoated. Five of 34 prostheses debonded, and the bond strength between resin and high gold alloys

Dental cements are widely used in the clinical routine, specifically for root canal sealing. Within this context, it is expected that these materials present antimicrobial activity, since it would help in the prevention of apical and periapical infections. The present study aimed to comparatively verify the antimicrobial activity of four dental cements against microorganisms that are routinely isolated from endodontic infections. Reference strains of Enterococcus faecalis, Candida albicans and Escherichia coli were submitted to the agar diffusion test and to modified direct contact test using

Several studies have shown the clinical success of hydraulic calcium-silicate cements (hCSCs) for direct and indirect pulp capping and root repair. However, hCSCs have various drawbacks, including long setting time, poor mechanical properties, low bond strength to dentin, and relatively poor handling characteristics. To overcome these limitations, a light-curable, resin-based hCSC (Theracal LC, Bisco) was commercially introduced; however, it did not exhibit much improvement in bond strength. We developed a light-curable self-adhesive pulp-capping material that contains the novel acrylamide mon

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has gained increasing attention as a biomaterial in prosthodontics; however, achieving durable adhesion to veneering composite materials remains a major challenge due to its chemically inert structure. This study presents and validates a standardized, reproducible protocol for evaluating shear bond strength (SBS) between PEEK and an indirect composite resin under different surface treatments, luting cements, and thermocycling conditions. A total of 240 PEEK discs were divided into four groups according to surface treatment: no surface treatment, sandblasting, sulfur
