The efficacy of the salt flotation technique using saturated solutions of sodium nitrate (specific gravity 1.30) and zinc sulphate (specific gravity 1.16) for separating Ascaris lumbricoides eggs from clay, loamy and sandy soils has been investigated. This histomorphometrical study was performed on the kidney and the parathyroid glands of autopsy cases of chronic glomerulonephritis. The kidneys showed atrophy in varying degrees. Weight of the parathyroid glands increased because of proliferation of parenchyma. Weight of parathyroid parenchyma correlated negatively with weight of the kidney and volume density of tubules in renal cortex.

OBJECTIVES: To develop a simple and sensitive GC-MS method for determining toluene-diamine (TDA) in urine and to apply the method for biological monitoring of workers exposed to toluene-diisocyanate (TDI).
METHODS: After acid hydrolysis of 0.1 ml of urine, diluted tenfold with water, for 1.5 h, the free TDA formed was extracted with dichloromethane, and the heptafluorobutyric anhydride derivative was determined by GC-MS. We applied the method to the biological monitoring of 18 workers who were using an 80:20 mixture of 2,4-TDI and 2,6-TDI.
RESULTS: 2,6-TDA and 2,4-TDA were simply determined

Experimental hypophysectomies were performed in 7 clinically normal dogs, using a new modification of the transsphenoidal approach. This approach facilitated centering of the sphenoid bone trephination and allowed safe exposure of the hypophysis regardless of the size or shape of a dog's skull. Polyuria in a herd of forty-five dairy cattle was the chief complaint in the first case. Polydipsia was the principle sign in a second case involving one dairy cow. Less conspicuous clinical findings included salt hunger, pica, weight loss and decreased milk production. Clinicopathologic investigation included monitoring the concentrations of sodium, potassium and chloiride in urine, parotid saliva and plasma. These analyses indicated a primary sodium deficiency which responded to sodium chloride ad libitum.

Two hundred consecutive specimens received in this laboratory for "liver function tests" showed a wide range of abnormal protein concentrations. Calcium concentration correlated closely with albumin (r = 0.867) but less closely with total protein (r = 0.682). A simple formula for adjusting calcium concentration was derived from the regression equation of calcium on albumin.
