The Effect of Travel-Chain Complexity on Public Transport Travel Intention: A Mixed-Selection Model.

With urban expansion and traffic environment improvement, travel chains continue to grow, and the combination of travel purposes and modes becomes more complex. The promotion of mobility as a service (MaaS) has positive effects on facilitating the public transport traffic environment. However, public transport service optimization requires an accurate understanding of the travel environment, selection preferences, demand prediction, and systematic dispatch. Our study focused on the relationship between the trip-chain complexity environment and travel intention, combining the Theory of Planned

Research on recognition and intervention of behavior sequences in virtual museum learning.

Learning in virtual museum can transcend the limits of time and space. The virtual museum that combines expertise in different disciplines provides a virtual learning environment for college students, but how to intervene in museum learning has been unclear. Targeted at this question, this study selected 2030 majors in clinical medicine from a certain university and the final results exhibited four types of learners who are of high, medium, low and absent museum immersion, respectively. When the learners visited the virtual museum, their behavior data were collected backstage and later used as

Quantifying the spatial clustering characteristics of radiographic emphysema explains variability in pulmonary function.

Quantitative assessment of emphysema in CT scans has mostly focused on calculating the percentage of lung tissue that is deemed abnormal based on a density thresholding strategy. However, this overall measure of disease burden discards virtually all the spatial information encoded in the scan that is implicitly utilized in a visual assessment. This simplification is likely grouping heterogenous disease patterns and is potentially obscuring clinical phenotypes and variable disease outcomes. To overcome this, several methods that attempt to quantify heterogeneity in emphysema distribution have b

Edible rose flowers: A doorway to gastronomic and nutraceutical research.

The world is moving towards a healthier lifestyle where people are changing their eating habits, which influenced edible rose flowers to emerge as a pioneer in the field of nutraceutical and food industries. Roses are a good source of dietary phytochemicals viz., flavonoids (anthocyanins, flavonols, and flavonols), carotenoids, and phenolic acids. The presence of such phytochemicals makes rose as an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancerous, anti-aging, anti-microbial, hepatoprotective, and neurogenic agent. Historically edible rose flowers have been used in the preparation of traditiona

An integrated clustering and copula-based model to assess the impact of intersection characteristics on violation-related collisions.

The main goal of this study is to investigate the impact of a variety of factors on the frequency and the severity of pedestrian-vehicle collisions that involve pedestrian violations. To that end, the collision dataset of the City of Hamilton between 2010 and 2017 was reviewed to filter out pedestrian collisions that involved pedestrian violations. A Latent Class Analysis (LCA) method was applied to divide the dataset into a set of homogeneous clusters, based on traffic and intersection characteristics. A copula-based multivariate model was then developed for each cluster in order to study the

Effective Clustering for Single Cell Sequencing Cancer Data.

Single cell sequencing (SCS) technologies provide a level of resolution that makes it indispensable for inferring from a sequenced tumor, evolutionary trees or phylogenies representing an accumulation of cancerous mutations. A drawback of SCS is elevated false negative and missing value rates, resulting in a large space of possible solutions, which in turn makes it difficult, sometimes infeasible using current approaches and tools. One possible solution is to reduce the size of an SCS instance - usually represented as a matrix of presence, absence, and uncertainty of the mutations found in the

Modelling Spatiotemporal Patterns of Lyme Disease Emergence in Québec.

Lyme disease is a growing public health problem in Québec. Its emergence over the last decade is caused by environmental and anthropological factors that favour the survival of Ixodes scapularis, the vector of Lyme disease transmission. The objective of this study was to estimate the speed and direction of human Lyme disease emergence in Québec and to identify spatiotemporal risk patterns. A surface trend analysis was conducted to estimate the speed and direction of its emergence based upon the first detected case of Lyme disease in each municipality in Québec since 2004. A cluster analysis wa…

Clustering knowledge and dispersing abilities enhances collective problem solving in a network.

Diversity tends to generate more and better ideas in social settings, ranging in scale from small-deliberative groups to tech-clusters and cities. Implicit in this research is that there are knowledge-generating benefits from diversity that comes from mixing different individuals, ideas, and perspectives. Here, we utilize agent-based modeling to examine the emergent outcomes resulting from the manipulation of how diversity is distributed and how knowledge is generated within communicative social structures. In the context of problem solving, we focus on cognitive diversity and its two forms: a

from 2009 to 2015 in Hunan].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the epidemiological situation and temporal-spatial clustering changes of hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) in Hunan. METHODS: Spatial autocorrelation and temporal-spatial clustering analysis were used to analyze the HFMD in Hunan. RESULTS: The incidence rates of HFMD ranged from 54.31/10 million to 318.06/10 million between 2009 and 2015 in Hunan. Cases mainly displayed in 5-year-old or even younger children and there were two epidemic periods each year. HFMD cases did not show a random distribution but with significant spatial aggregation. When local autocorrelation a

BioCluster: tool for identification and clustering of Enterobacteriaceae based on biochemical data.

Presumptive identification of different Enterobacteriaceae species is routinely achieved based on biochemical properties. Traditional practice includes manual comparison of each biochemical property of the unknown sample with known reference samples and inference of its identity based on the maximum similarity pattern with the known samples. This process is labor-intensive, time-consuming, error-prone, and subjective. Therefore, automation of sorting and similarity in calculation would be advantageous. Here we present a MATLAB-based graphical user interface (GUI) tool named BioCluster. This to

Development of an extended multilocus sequence typing for genotyping of Brucella isolates.

By amplifying and sequencing longer sequences, an extended multi locus sequence typing (EMLST) theme was developed for Brucella. 61 isolates were genotyped by the EMLST with increased resolution. This strategy could be extended to other bacteria to improve MLST genotyping resolution without additional loci.

Genetics of Dupuytren's disease.

The striking variation in prevalence, approaching 30% in individuals over the age of 60 years in Norway, is strong evidence for an inherited susceptibility to Dupuytren's disease. In many pedigrees, inheritance appears to follow the autosomal dominant model. Other modes of inheritance are consistent with the data, however, and it remains unclear whether the many apparently sporadic cases have a genetic basis. The inherited susceptibility may influence tissue's sensitivity to the effects of environmental exposures. High prevalence, late age of onset, and the possibility of nongenetic cases are

Differential abundance testing on single-cell data using k-nearest neighbor graphs.

Current computational workflows for comparative analyses of single-cell datasets typically use discrete clusters as input when testing for differential abundance among experimental conditions. However, clusters do not always provide the appropriate resolution and cannot capture continuous trajectories. Here we present Milo, a scalable statistical framework that performs differential abundance testing by assigning cells to partially overlapping neighborhoods on a k-nearest neighbor graph. Using simulations and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data, we show that Milo can identify perturbat

Protocol for sequence clustering with PaSiMap in Jalview.

Pairwise similarity mapping (PaSiMap), implemented in Jalview, serves as an alternative to principal component analysis (PCA) for analyzing protein sequence relationships without requiring pre-computed multiple sequence alignments. It excels at distinguishing between systematic and random differences in datasets. Here, we present a protocol for sequence clustering with PaSiMap in Jalview. We describe steps for installation, sequence importing, and running PaSiMap analyses. We also detail procedures for plotting and data interpretation in RStudio, offering a streamlined approach for visualizing

A quantitative analysis of the Eutherian orbit: correlations with masticatory apparatus.

The mammalian orbit, or eye-socket, is a highly plastic region of the skull. It comprises between seven and nine bones, all of which vary wi … e orbital areas of certain bones between temporalis-dominant and masseter-dominant taxa. Subsequent cluster analysis suggested that most of the variables could be grouped into three assemblages: those associated with the length of the rostrum; those associated with the width of the skull; and those associated with the relative size of the orbit and the shape of th …

Probabilistic Clustering Using Multivariate Growth Mixture Model in Clinical Settings-A Scleroderma Example.

BACKGROUND: Scleroderma (systemic sclerosis; SSc) is a chronic autoimmune disease known for wide heterogeneity in patients' disease progression in multiple organ systems. Our goal is to guide clinical care by real-time classification of patients into clinically interpretable subpopulations based on their baseline characteristics and the temporal patterns of their disease progression. METHODS: A Bayesian multivariate growth mixture model was fit to identify subgroups of patients from the Johns Hopkins Scleroderma Center Research Registry who share similar lung function trajectories. We jointly
