[Research on the dose-response relationship of hand transmitted vibration and its hygienic standard].

According to ISO 5349-1986, the akw(4) was 9.04-41.47m/s2 which was measured and calculated in 5 types of instruments: chain saw, cleaner, rock driller, riveter & emery wheel. There were 170 cases with white finger through epidemiologic investigation on 5 types of workers in 1,675 persons. Based on the work mentioned above, a formula, which represented worker cumulative exposure to vibration was deduced: D = [(a2kw(4).T)1/2.Y.d]2 Furthermore, the dose-response relationship of hand transmitted vibration and prevalence of white finger was computed, the regression equation was: P = 1.0904X - 6.21

Transplantation of amputated bony phalanges as a salvage thumb reconstruction method - a preliminary report.

BACKGROUND: Every traumatic amputation of the thumb is an indication for an attempt of replantation. Due to local state of the wound not every case qualifies for this procedure. Such patients may be offered a multi-step salvage reconstruction of the amputated finger; the first step consists of an emergency implantation of the bony phalanx under the skin of the abdominal wall. The osseous graft was covered with skin using a pedicled tubular flap or a "cutaneous pocket". The aim of this paper was to evaluate the effectiveness of this reconstructive method. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Over a period of

A 62-Year-Old Woman With Lung Cancer, Ulcerating Rash, and Rapidly Progressive Hypoxemia.

A 62-year-old nonsmoking woman with no medical history initially presented with a 3-month history of rash. A painful, erythematous exanthem had progressed from her forehead, cheeks, and upper chest to her eyes (heliotrope rash) and hands, primarily involving the extensor surface finger joints with prominent digital ulceration.

[Successful surgery of buttonhole deformity of finger via extensor tendon graft after snow (author's transl)].

Plastic surgery of extensor tendon after Snow for secondary removal of buttonhole deformity yields good results similar to those obtained by the method after Matev while being simpler to perform within a shorter time. However, success of surgery depends decisively on the preoperative free passive mobility of the joints of the finger concerned.

Wrist arthrodesis and soft tissue rebalancing in the spastic hand.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the outcomes of wrist arthrodesis with simultaneous soft tissue rebalancing of the digits in the spastic wrist. In 43 wrists (40 patients) the surgical goals, patient selection, procedures and outcomes were assessed. Preoperatively, mean passive extension was to 44° below neutral and only two patients had volitional control. Postoperatively, 33 and 10 cases reported excellent and good outcomes, respectively. A mean Goal Attainment Score of 62.4 indicated better than expected outcomes. In total, 37 hands required simultaneous finger rebalancing: 2

Palmar fascial complex anatomy and pathology in Dupuytren's disease.

Familiarity with the normal palmar fascial anatomy of the hand is necessary for understanding the convoluted pathologic changes that take place in Dupuytren's disease. This article includes a literature review and the findings of a study by the author of the fascial anatomy and pathology as related to Dupuytren's disease. Gross and microdissection of the palmar fascial structures were carried out with the aid of the operative microscope and an arthroscope, which allowed examination of the fine and undisturbed retinacular anatomy. The palmar fascial complex of the hand has five components: the

Ulnar dislocation of the trapeziometacarpal joint: a case report.

An ulnar dislocation of the trapeziometacarpal joint is reported. On the posteroanterior radiograph of the wrist, the boney alignment appeared normal, and the only sign indicating a dislocation was a slight widening of the joint. By contrast, a true posteroanterior view of the trapezium clearly demonstrated the metacarpal ulnarly displaced. A late tendon reconstruction of the damaged palmar and medial ligaments produced a satisfactory result.

A dynamic traction splint for the management of extrinsic tendon tightness.

The dynamic traction splint designed by therapists at Walter Reed Army Medical Center is used for the management of extrinsic extensor tendon tightness commonly seen in brachial plexus injuries and traumatic soft tissue injuries of the upper extremity. The two components of the splint allow for simultaneous maximum flexion of the MCP and IP joints. This simple and economical splint provides an additional modality to any occupational therapy service involved in the management of upper extremity disorders.
