PURPOSE: To evaluate the monocular and binocular outcomes of LASIK for a micro-monovision protocol for the correction of hyperopic astigmatism and presbyopia.
METHODS: A prospective non-comparative case series included 258 eyes of 129 consecutive patients with hyperopic astigmatism and presbyopia who were treated with LASIK-induced micro-monovision. The CRS-Master software was used to generate ablation profiles for the Carl Zeiss Meditec MEL80 excimer laser. The target refraction was piano for distance eyes (dominant eye) and between -1.00 and -1.50 diopters (D) for near eyes. Patients were f

PURPOSE: To optimize the surgical technique for performing femtosecond laser-assisted keratoplasty (FLAK) using the IntraLase FS to cut both recipient and donor cornea buttons in eye bank globes.
METHODS: FLAK was performed in six globes and six corneoscleral buttons for each of the following trephination patterns: top hat, mushroom, tongue-groove, and vertical. Manual trephination was performed as control. The wound integrity was tested in incisions closed with 8 sutures, 8 sutures with fibrin adhesive, and 16 sutures by measuring the intraocular pressure required to produce graft-host wound

BACKGROUND: Laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a surgical procedure that corrects refractive errors. This technique creates a flap of the outermost parts of the cornea (epithelium, bowman layer, and anterior stroma) to expose the middle part of the cornea (stromal bed) and reshape it with excimer laser using photoablation. The flaps can be created by a mechanical microkeratome or a femtosecond laser.
OBJECTIVES: To compare the effectiveness and safety of mechanical microkeratome versus femtosecond laser in LASIK for adults with myopia.
SEARCH METHODS: We searched CENTRAL (which

AIMS: (I) To examine whether small holes produced by 248 nm excimer laser ablation in a polymer substrate could consistently produce a pressure drop in the desired target range (5-15 mm Hg) at physiological aqueous flow rates for use as an internal flow restrictor in a glaucoma drainage device, and (ii) to investigate whether external leakage could be reduced in comparison with conventional tube and plate glaucoma drainage devices by redesigning the exterior cross sectional shape of the portion contained within the sclerocorneal tunnel.
METHODS: Single holes with target diameters of 10 microm

BACKGROUND: Visual quality after corneal refractive surgery is linked to the postoperative effective optical zone (EOZ). This study aims to compare long-term changes in the EOZ following small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) for moderate and high myopia.
METHODS: This study included 42 patients (72 eyes) who underwent either SMILE (36 eyes) or FS-LASIK (36 eyes). A custom software program based on the tangential curvature difference map of the Pentacam HR (Oculus Optikgeräte GmbH) was used to define the EOZ at 3 and 7 year

METHODS: A total of 1076 eyes from 569 patients who had FS-LASIK or SMILE were included in the retrospective research. For each kind of surgery, eyes were separated into two groups: "OBL" groups and "no OBL" groups. In the FS-LASIK group, eyes that developed OBL were split into "hard OBL" and "soft OBL" groups. The incidence and size of OBL were anal

PURPOSES: Define clinical ablation decentration and construct personalized areas for K measurements to improve the accuracy of intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation after myopic laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).
DESIGN: Retrospective, observational case series.
METHODS: Ablation areas were delineated on smoothed corneal topographies (Pentacam AXL). Personalized areas for K measurements were constructed as the overlap between the corneal ablation area and a given apex-centered circle. K values were calculated on these personalized areas using the ring or zone method. Ablation decentrat
