Multiple brain abscesses caused by Nocardia asiatica co-infection with Torque teno virus in an "immunocompetent" patient: a rare case report and literature review.

Brain abscess is a suppurative infection of brain tissue caused by one or more pathogens under specific susceptible conditions and is associated with a high clinical fatality rate. Beyond surgical intervention, the identification of pathogens is key to clinical antimicrobial therapy, yet this remains a challenge. Nocardia is a ubiquitous bacterium that typically manifests as an opportunistic infection, primarily affecting immunocompromised individuals. Pulmonary involvement, characterized by suppurative inflammation, commonly occurs following inhalation, with subsequent hematogenous disseminat

High-throughput sequencing of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid confirms pulmonary paragonimiasis: A case report.

RATIONALE: Paragonimiasis, a rare parasitic disease, often presents diagnostic challenges due to its insidious onset, multiorgan involvement, and nonspecific clinical manifestations, frequently leading to misdiagnosis. While numerous reports describe diagnostic errors in paragonimiasis management, cases involving repeated misdiagnoses across multiple tertiary hospitals over 2 years (particularly with comprehensive epidemiological evidence of freshwater crab consumption) remain exceptionally uncommon. We herein present such a noteworthy case. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 45-year-old male was hospitaliz

Clinico-Demographic Profile of Paediatric Patients with Primary Intracranial Tumours in South India.

UNLABELLED: With advances in systemic anticancer therapies, pulmonary metastasectomy is being increasingly employed for local disease control while aiming to preserve lung parenchyma, anatomy, and function with complete (R0) resection. We introduce an innovative neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd-YAG) light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (LASER) approach for peripherally located, deep-seated, and fissural lesions, utilizing the lung's natural tongue-like configuration at the edges. This method involves cylindrical excision around the nodule, creating a buttonhole fr

Safety and feasibility of computed tomography-guided radiofrequency ablation for treating high-risk pulmonary nodules in postoperative lung cancer patients.

BackgroundLung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally. Patients with postoperative recurrence typically have limited treatment options. This study evaluated the safety and feasibility of computed tomography-guided radiofrequency ablation for treating high-risk pulmonary nodules in patients who have undergone lung cancer surgery and are ineligible for reoperation.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed 40 patients (16 men and 24 women, aged 41-78 years) with radiologically suspicious recurrent nodules following lung cancer resection who were treated with radiofrequency ab

Opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome associated with non-small cell lung cancer.

A 68-year-old man developed progressive vertigo, saccadic eye movements, and tremors. Computed tomography showed multiple lung nodules. Surgery was performed and the pathological diagnosis was large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma in the left upper lobe with ipsilobar metastases, and adenocarcinoma in the left lower lobe. The neurological symptoms resolved dramatically after complete resection of the tumors. Opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome associated with non-small-cell lung carcinoma is extremely rare. Surgery should not be delayed if a complete resection is expected.

Misdiagnosis of a multi-organ involvement hematogenous disseminated tuberculosis as metastasis: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) is a great mimicker and diagnostic chameleon, and prone to be diagnosed as malignancy. Even though many reports have described the differences between pulmonary TB and lung cancer, the atypical systemic hematogenous disseminated TB (HDTB) is very rare and more confusing in clinical practice. CASE PRESENTATION: A 73-year-old man, HIV-negative, was hospitalized to the local county hospital because of chest pain, low-grade fever, asthenia, anorexia and weight loss for the pasting two months. The CT findings of the two lungs showed multiple round or round-like nodule

Whole-Body MRI of Primary Bone Tumors.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the established gold standard for the staging of primary bone tumors; however, conventional protocols typically use a site-specific model supplemented by ionizing radiation for systemic screening. Recent advancements in whole-body MRI (WB-MRI) have enabled a "marrow-first" diagnostic approach, allowing for the comprehensive assessment of the primary intraosseous lesion and the entire skeleton in a single, radiation-free study. Technical developments, including Dixon fat suppression and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), have significantly enhanced the detecti

The use of CP-EBUS-TBNA in the diagnosis of chondrosarcoma in a patient With Maffucci syndrome.

We report a case of a 52-year-old white woman with Maffucci syndrome, a rare skeletal disorder characterized by multiple cartilage-forming tumors (enchondromas). She was referred for evaluation of an enlarging pulmonary nodule. Her positron emission tomography-computed tomography scan revealed a low-density, tubular lesion in the superior segment of the left lower lobe of the lung. She underwent a convex-probe endobronchial ultrasound (CP-EBUS)-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) that confirmed metastatic chondrosarcoma. Although CP-EBUS-TBNA has become an established tool for diagn

Artificial intelligence and digital health in bronchoscopy: advances in diagnostic accuracy, real-time navigation and procedural skills training.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and procedure-linked digital health technologies are beginning to transform bronchoscopy across three interconnected domains. In terms of diagnostic accuracy, deep learning models applied to endobronchial ultrasound images and bronchoscopic videos can match or exceed human readers in differentiating benign from malignant lesions, although nearly all evidence remains at the level of test-accuracy metrics rather than clinical outcomes. In real-time navigation, AI-augmented fluoroscopy and tomosynthesis platforms represent the clearest example of clinically deployed A
