PURPOSE: To evaluate outcomes of the Boston type I keratoprosthesis (KPro) and associated incidence of glaucoma.
DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study.
PARTICIPANTS: All patients who underwent KPro surgery at 1 institution from 2003 to 2009 with at least 3 months of follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Globe injuries frequently are the cause of permanent loss of visual function. Especially ruptures of the globe have a 50 times lower chance of achieving a final visual acuity better than 20/200 as compared to contusions of the globe. Besides injury to the retina and choroids, injury of the iris-lens diaphragm plays an important role for visual rehabilitation (10% iris defects and 1% aniridia after blunt trauma). Ahmed glaucoma valve implant (AGV) is one of the more commonly used implants in difficult glaucomas. The histology of a functioning bleb following AGV implantation and its anatomic relationship to the optic nerve when placed in the superionasal quadrant has been described. We report the histology of a failed bleb and the anatomic relationship between the optic nerve and the AGV end-plate when placed 9 mm from the limbus in a patient with neovascular glaucoma.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate visual, refractive, and astigmatism vector outcomes following toric implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation in eyes with high astigmatism.

BACKGROUND: Extended monovision is a novel mix-and-match approach that has been recently introduced. It involves implanting an aspherical monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) for distance vision in the dominant eye, and a bifocal extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOL in the nondominant eye. The target refraction for the nondominant eye is - 1.25 diopters (D), and provides good intermediate vision at 80 cm, with an additional 1.5 D power for near vision at 36 cm. This study evaluates the visual outcomes and patient-reported experiences with this extended monovision strategy in cataract patients.
