Three studies are reported assessing the validity of AMTAS, an automated method for obtaining an audiogram, including air- and bone-conduction thresholds (stimuli delivered by a forehead-placed transducer) with masking noise presented to the non-test ear. In Study 1, six subjects at each of three sites were tested using manual audiometry by two audiologists at each site. Static compliance, and acoustic reflex thresholds, were studied retrospectively in 883 subjects, aged one to 20 years. Age was a factor in both measurements. In 523 subjects with normal middle ear fuction, static compliance increased as a function of age. Familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia (FHH) - rare disease with predominantly autosomal dominant inheritance. FHH typically develops due to a heterozygous inactivating mutation in the calcium-sensitive receptor gene (CASR), less commonly due to heterozygous mutations in GNA11 and AP2S1. A syndrome is described in which patients complain of inability to see at night, although their rod and cone thresholds are normal. In such persons the rods, when dark-adapted, elevate cone flicker thresholds by 2 log units or more, and this condition is the basis of their complaint.
