Axillary artery injury in closed fracture of the humeral neck.

A case of atherosclerotic axillary artery rupture in closed fracture of the proximal part of the humerus is described. It demonstrates a possible serious arterial injury in elderly persons even in case the fracture of the humeral neck is not dislocated. If there are signs of disturbed circulation in these injuries, angiography is indicated irrespective of the type of fracture and mechanism of injury.

Ruptured tibialis posterior tendon in a closed ankle fracture.

Interposition of a ruptured tibialis posterior tendon between the medial malleolar fracture fragments in a closed pronation-eversion ankle fracture occurred in a 21-year-old woman. The tendon rupture was not diagnosed before surgery but was recognized at the time of open reduction. the tendon was repaired and the fracture internally fixed. Twelve months after the operation, the patient had a nearly full range of pain-free ankle movements and a normal longitudinal arch.

Close Intramedullary Interlocking Nailing Versus Locking Compression Plating In the Treatment of Closed Fracture Shaft of the Tibia.

Fracture of tibial shaft is the commonest site of long bone fractures due to its superficial location involving young or middle-age people. Proper management is an important issue regarding the future effective movements. In this study patients were grouped in closed Intra medullary interlocking nailing and locking compression plating. Post-operative follow up at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 3 months thereafter up to 6 months were done. Each of the patients was evaluated clinically and radiologically by tucker criteria of Tuker et al. Patients were assessed for pain on full weight bearing an

Micromotion in the fracture healing of closed distal metaphyseal tibial fractures: A multicentre prospective study.

The dynamic locking screw (DLS) in association with minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) in a bridging construct for simple metadiaphyseal long bone fractures enables modulation of the rigidity of the system and facilitates the development of early and triplanar bone callus. Twenty patients affected by distal tibial fracture were treated with MIPO bridging technique and DLS at the proximal side of the fracture. Time of consolidation, quality of the reduction, complications and American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score were monitored and the results compared with those

Adults Closed Distal Radial Fractures: Current Concepts in Treatment Selection and Complication Prevention.

PURPOSE: Closed distal radial fractures (DRFs) are among the most common adult fractures with high socioeconomic impact. Clinical decision-making remains challenging, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), because of the heterogeneous nature of evidence and resource constraints. This study aimed to develop a risk-stratified framework for treatment selection and the prevention of complications. METHODS: A structured literature search was conducted in Pubmed, Scopus, and Embase databases from January 2015 to August 2025. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials,

Mandibular condylar fractures: a 5-year retrospective analysis comparing open versus closed reduction.

BACKGROUND: Mandibular fractures are common facial fractures, and contemporary management of mandibular condylar fractures is controversial. The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of patients who sustained a mandibular condylar fracture between 2016 and 2020, who were managed by either open or closed techniques. The outcomes of this study were: post-operative facial nerve function, occlusion, and maximal mouth opening. METHODS: This study is a retrospective multicentre cohort study which assessed clinical records for 246 patients with mandibular condyle fractures in three hospi

Development of a 3D printed simulator for closed reduction of distal radius fractures.

BACKGROUND: The use of simulators in medical education is critical for developing procedural competence prior to treating patients. Current training of emergency physicians to perform distal radius fracture reduction is inconsistent and inadequate. APPROACH: We developed a 3D printed distal radius fracture simulation training model that is easy to assemble and relatively inexpensive. We present step-by-step instructions to reproduce the model. EVALUATION: The model was found to have high fidelity for training by both instructors and participants in a simulation-based mastery learning course.

Effect of childhood overweight on distal metaphyseal radius fractures treated by closed reduction.

BACKGROUND: The medical community has recognized overweight as an epidemic negatively affecting a large proportion of the pediatric population, but few studies have been performed to investigate the relationship between overweight and failure of conservative treatment for distal radius fractures (DRFs). This study was performed to investigate the effect of overweight on the outcome of conservative treatment for DRFs in children. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study of children with closed displaced distal metaphyseal radius fractures in our hospital from January 2015 to May 2020. Close

Closed Reduction and Percutaneous Pinning for Treatment of Proximal Interphalangeal Joint Pilon Fractures.

BACKGROUND: Proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint pilon fractures are among the challenging hand injuries, which are often associated with a wide range of complications. This study aimed to report the clinical and radiological outcomes of closed reduction and percutaneous Kirschner wire (KW) insertion with or without bone cement application (for the fabrication of an external fixator) in the treatment of PIP joint pilon fractures. METHODS: Twenty pilon fractures underwent closed reduction and percutaneous KW fixation through a modified technique. At the end of the follow-up period, 3 questionn

Comparison of Open and Closed Nailing for Femoral Shaft Fractures: A Retrospective Analysis.

Introduction Open and closed nailing are the two reduction methods used for the fixation of femoral shaft fractures. The study aims to assess the clinical and functional outcomes of open and closed nailing for closed femoral shaft fractures. Methodology A total of 398 patients who underwent intramedullary nailing fixation of nonpathological femoral shaft fracture between January 2016 to December 2019 were reviewed retrospectively. Two hundred seventy-four underwent closed nailing, and 124 were considered for open nailing. Results The primary outcome reviewed was the union rate of fracture. Oth

Skull Fractures Induce Neuroinflammation and Worsen Outcomes after Closed Head Injury in Mice.

The weight-drop model is used widely to replicate closed-head injuries in mice; however, the histopathological and functional outcomes may vary significantly between laboratories. Because skull fractures are reported to occur in this model, we aimed to evaluate whether these breaks may influence the variability of the weight-drop (WD) model. Male Swiss Webster mice underwent WD injury with either a 2 or 5 mm cone tip, and behavior was assessed at 2 h and 24 h thereafter using the neurological severity score. The expression of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α, matrix metallopr

Innovative technique of minimally invasive closed reduction for impacted femoral neck fractures (MICRIF).

The moment arm of gluteus medius proportionated to distance from femoral head tends to be decreased postoperatively in valgus-impacted femoral neck fractures treated by in situ internal fixation. The aim of this article is to introduce a new gentle technique to correct the deformity. The innovative technique of Minimally Invasive Closed Reduction for Impacted Femoral neck fractures (MICRIF) mainly focused to disimpact valgus neck fractures into anatomical position. Patients were positioned on the fracture table to fix the hip joint in abduction and internal rotation. A 2.4-mm diameter Kirschne

Early Postoperative Infection Following Open Reduction Internal Fixation Repair of Closed Malleolar Fractures.

BACKGROUND: Early postoperative infection (EPI) following hardware placement in patients with malleolar fractures is a serious complication. Identifying factors that place patients at risk for early infection may help target interventions to prevent infections. METHODS: Data for the study included all adult patients who underwent operative management for closed malleolar fracture from 2006 to 2013 in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database. Characteristics of patients with and without EPI were compared using univariate tests. Logistic regression was used to perform a multiv
