Pediatric urothelial bladder neoplasm.

INTRODUCTION: Urothelial bladder neoplasm (UBN) is an uncommon lesion in children and adolescents, without established follow-up protocol defined for this patient group. OBJECTIVES: To report our experience and long-term follow-up data on pediatric patients with urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder. METHODS: In this retrospective two center study, we analyzed the perioperative and long-term follow-up data of nine pediatric patients, who presented with neoplasms of urothelial origin within the urinary bladder between 2000 and 2021. RESULTS: Nine patients were identified with a mean ag

[Urothelial papillary neoplasms of low malignant potential. Retrospective studies].

UNLABELLED: The knowledge about the evolution and long-term survival of patients with papillary utothelial neoplasm of low malignant potential of the bladder is still limited due to the recent implantation of this term. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients with superficial bladder cancer treated at HRU Reina Sofía between 1990 and 1995 were reviewed. We found 50 patients with the diagnostic criteria of "papillary urothelial neoplasm of low malignant potential" according to the classification of the 1998 World Health Organization/International Society of Urologic Pathology (WHO/ISUP). There were no

Tubular adenoma of the urinary bladder in a female patient: An extremely rare entity clinically mimicking urothelial malignancy.

Tubular adenoma of the urinary bladder is an exceptionally rare intestinal-type glandular neoplasm that may mimic urothelial malignancy. Among approximately 82 reported enteric-type bladder adenomas, only four represent pure tubular adenomas. We report a case in a 78-year-old woman presenting with gross hematuria. Cystoscopy revealed a suspicious lesion, and transurethral resection was performed. Histopathologic examination showed tubular glands with intestinal differentiation without villous architecture. Immunohistochemistry supported intestinal differentiation. To our knowledge, this repres

Pediatric renal inflammatory myofibroblastic tumours: A case report and review of the etiology and management options.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumours (IMTs) have been described in lung, bladder, spleen, breast, pancreas, liver, colon, spermatic cord, prostate, peripheral nerves, orbit and kidney. Traditionally believed as having a reactive pathogenesis, IMTs are now viewed more as a neoplasm. This report describes a case of a renal IMT in a 14-year-old girl with spina bifida associated neurogenic bladder and a history of recurrent urinary tract infections. This represents a unique case as pediatric renal IMTs are very rare in the literature. We discuss how this patient was managed and how she presented c

Glandular Lesions of the Urinary Bladder: Diagnostic and Molecular Updates.

Glandular lesions in the urinary tract or their associated pathologies can pose a diagnostic challenge. There is a variety of benign alterations and tumor types that need to be taken into account in differential diagnostic considerations. In recent times, efforts for better defining these alterations or lesions both on the histopathological and molecular levels have been undertaken. This article will provide an update on current diagnostic and molecular considerations of these lesions.

Palliative treatment of intractable hematuria in context of advanced bladder cancer: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: In a patient with bladder urothelial cancer that is not suitable for or does not choose curative treatment, intractable hematuria is a disastrous condition. In this article, we tried to review the literature and extract a stepwise approach for palliative treatment of hematuria in these patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The MEDLINE was searched with the help of the Medical Subject Headings system using different combinations of terms urinary bladder neoplasm, hematuria, carboprost, cyclophosphamide, cystitis, alum, and hyperbaric oxygenation. The articles were separately reviewed

Primary non leukemic myeloid sarcoma of the ureteral wall: a case report of a rare disease.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extramedullary tumor mass causing proliferation of mature or immature blast cells of one or more myeloid lineages. Involvement of the genitourinary tract is rare. We present a case of MS of the ureteral wall. A 74-year-old man was evaluated for left hydronephrosis and ipsilateral low back pain. A computed tomography scan showed a nodular formation in the pelvic ureter. Urinary cytology revealed cellular atypia, so ureteroscopy was performed showing a distal ureteral mass. The histological examination of the biopsy revealed to be malignant neoplasm. The patient underw

Urachal tumour: case report of a poorly understood carcinoma.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: Urachal carcinoma is an uncommon neoplasm associated with poor prognosis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 45-year-old man was admitted with complaints of abdominal pain and pollakisuria. A soft mass was palpable under his navel. TC-scan revealed a 11 x 6 cm tumor, which was composed of a cystic lesion arising from the urachus and a solid mass component at the urinary bladder dome. The tumor was removed surgically. Histological examination detected poor-differentiated adenocarcinoma, which had invaded the urinary bladder. The patient has been followed up without recurrence for 6 months. CONC

Extra-nodal monocytoid B-cell lymphoma of the urinary bladder.

Monocytoid B-cell lymphoma (MBCL) is a low-grade neoplasm considered to be the neoplastic counterpart to monocytoid B-lymphocytes, derived from marginal zone lymphocytes. Recently, a 72-yr-old woman presented with urinary symptoms of burning, urgency, and hematuria. Examination of the urinary bladder revealed the presence of an exophytic mass at the bladder base. This lesion was grossly suspected of being a transitional cell carcinoma, but on initial histologic examination it was found to be lymphoma composed of cells with moderately abundant cytoplasm and an overall size reminiscent of a larg

A rare case of long-term survival of a patient who underwent radical operations for sextuple malignancies.

Multiple cancer patients who achieve long-term survival are sometimes encountered. Multiple carcinogenesis may occur due to genetic or environmental characteristics. We report the case of a 74-year-old woman who was diagnosed with synchronous double carcinoma of the duodenal papilla and gall bladder without clinical symptoms, who underwent postoperative follow-up for familiar adenomatous polyposis coli with multiple colonic adenocarcinomas, ileal adenocarcinoma, left urinary tract neoplasm, and left upper lobe lung adenocarcinoma. Computed tomography also showed an intraductal papillary mucino

Inverted urothelial papilloma: A case report.

Inverted urothelial papilloma (IUP) is an unusual tumor that typically presents as a non-invasive, endophytic urothelial neoplasm. Though fairly well described in the bladder, IUP of the upper urinary tract is fairly rare, with only 68 cases documented in English language literature. Our patient presented with an IUP of the distal left ureter and was treated with a distal ureterectomy and reimplant of the ureter with a psoas hitch.

Assessment of Tumor-Associated Tissue Eosinophilia (TATE) and Tumor-Associated Macrophages (TAMs) in Canine Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Urinary Bladder.

Transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder is a significant neoplasm in dogs, characterized by a poor prognosis and a high metastatic potential. These canine spontaneous tumors share many characteristics with human transitional cell carcinoma, making them an excellent comparative model. The role of inflammatory infiltration in tumor development and progression is frequently contradictory, especially concerning tumor-associated tissue eosinophils (TATE) and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). This study aims to analyze TATE and TAMs in canine transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary

The detection of PAX8 in human upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma.

Upper urinary tract urothelial carcinomas (UUT-UCs) are defined as malignant neoplasms of the urothelium from the upper urinary tract, including renal calyces, the renal pelvis and the distal ureter. The natural attributes of UUT-UCs differ from those of bladder cancer. The aim of the present study was to investigate PAX8 expression in the normal urothelium and in urothelial carcinomas (UCs) of the upper urinary tract. Immunohistochemistry was conducted in 35 cases of renal pelvic and 30 cases of ureteral papillary UCs and the adjacent normal urothelium respectively. PAX8 mRNA expression was e

MRI in differentiation of benign and malignant tongue tumors.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate 10 years of experience, and thus define the occurrence and causes, of neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction in children with pelvic neoplasms treated by surgery. PATIENTS AND METHODS: From 1991 to 2000, 33 children were operated by the same surgeons for pelvic neoplasms; 11 were analysed, comprising four each with sacrococcygeal teratoma (ST) and ganglioneuroma, and one each with yolk sac tumour (YST), neuroblastoma and myofibroblastic bladder sarcoma (MBS). The other patients were not assessed because eight had died or were in severe progression, three were treate

Paraganglioma of the urinary bladder: a clinicopathologic spectrum of a series of 14 cases emphasizing diagnostic dilemmas.

BACKGROUND: Paraganglioma (PG) of the urinary bladder is a rare neuroendocrine neoplasm, accounting for < 0.1% of all bladder tumours. Distinction from urothelial carcinoma is imperative as management and prognosis vary markedly. In this report, we describe our experience with the histopathology of paragangliomas of the urinary bladder with emphasis on the histologic features that have led to their being misdiagnosed as conventional urothelial cancer and, most importantly, those that will help pathologists recognize this rare tumor of the bladder. MATERIALS AND METHODS: All cases of PG of uri

Transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder in patients with renal pelvic and ureteral cancer.

We reviewed 41 cases of transitional cell carcinoma of the renal pelvis and ureter with special reference to the coexistence or subsequent development of bladder cancer. Bladder cancer was associated with an upper urinary tract neoplasm in 20 of the 41 cases (48 per cent). Most of these patients (15 of 20) were treated by radical total cystectomy of 1-stage nephroureterocystectomy. The incidence of ureteral stump cancer after nephrectomy alone or incomplete nephroureterectomy was 64 per cent (7 of 11 patients). Twelve surgically removed specimens of the renal pelvis, ureter and/or bladder were

Magnetic resonance imaging of the pelvis: prostate and urinary bladder.

Magnetic resonance imaging has opened up a new horizon in the evaluation of the male pelvis. Its direct multiplanar imaging and display of the unique tissue contrast allows for the demonstration of prostate anatomy. Prostatic disease, even when confined to the gland, is easily depicted. However, one cannot distinguish benign from malignant processes. In a patient with a known prostatic neoplasm, magnetic resonance is useful as a staging modality. Accuracy in the staging of prostatic malignancies by MRI surpasses that of ultrasound or CT. In the evaluation of the urinary bladder, the greatest a

Warty Carcinoma Arising in Condyloma Acuminatum of Urinary Bladder: A Case Report.

We describe the case of a 62-year-old man with chronic irritation of the urinary bladder resulting in dysuria and hypogastric pain. Three neoplasms measuring 0.5, 1, and 1.5 cm, respectively, were observed by cystoscopy and removed by transurethral resection (TUR). Histologic examination showed a complex folding of squamous hyperplastic epithelium around a connective tissue core. The superficial epithelium contained numerous koilocytes. The double polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detected DNA of type 11 human papillomavirus (HPV). The diagnosis was condyloma acuminatum of bladder. Three months
