The fibreoptic laryngoscope is described, and its method of use detailed. Seventy patients were submitted to this examination. Its advantages and disadvantages in the assessment of the various groups of laryngeal disorders in these patients are discussed and compared with indirect and direct laryngoscopy. Its teaching and research possibilities are also mentioned. The technique shows considerable promise and will, we believe, achieve an accepted place as an addition to our diagnostic armamentarium in the investigation of laryngeal disorders.

BACKGROUND: Dysphagia is one of the most dangerous symptoms of acute stroke. Various screening tools have been suggested for the early detection of this condition. In spite of conflicting results, measurement of oxygen saturation (SpO2) during clinical swallowing assessment is still recommended by different national guidelines as a screening tool with a decline in SpO2 ≥2% usually being regarded as a marker of aspiration. BACKGROUND: Glossopexy (tongue-lip adhesion) is a procedure in which the tongue is anchored to the lower lip and mandible to relieve the upper airway obstruction mainly in infants with Pierre Robin sequence. Infants suffering from severe upper airway obstruction and feeding difficulties due to glossoptosis are the candidates for this procedure and are predicted to demonstrate difficult airway and difficult intubation.
METHODS: We retrospectively examined the perioperative management of 19 infants undergoing glossopexy procedure at our institution from 1992 to 2010.

Fiberoptic endoscopy has made a notable impact in rhinology over the last decade, mainly in the diagnosis and treatment of paranasal sinus inflammatory disease. The aim of this article is to review, discuss, and illustrate the role of endoscopy in the management of nasal neoplasia. We have reviewed our own experience and illustrate this with four cases. We discuss the role of endoscopy in the diagnosis, biopsy, resection, posttherapeutic surveillance, and palliation of these tumors.

Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis (HP) is an immunologically mediated interstitial lung disease that may result from repeated inhalation of many different environmental agents. Heterogeneity of the clinical presentation and bronchoalveolar lavage profiles have been described, possibly related to different occupational exposures. The aim of our study was to compare bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), clinical, functional and radiological characteristics of the two most frequent forms of HP seen in our practice: Suberosis (an HP related to moldy cork dust exposure) and bird fancier's disease (BFD).
