Clinical and laboratory findings among 34 children (age range from 15 months to 13 years) with neurocysticercosis were reviewed. The main symptoms were: intracranial hypertension, 21 cases (62%); epilepsy, 20 cases (59%); hemiplegia, 4 cases (12%). The demonstration of specific IgM antibodies after separation of immunoglobulins was used for the early diagnosis of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). The separation was done by sucrose-gradient density ultracentrifugation and IgM antibodies were demonstrated with the hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) test. The diagnostic possibilities of several variants of the solid-phase immunofluorescent micromethod (requiring 100-200 microliter of the reaction mixture), intended for the determination of influenza virus and tick-borne encephalitis virus antigens in material obtained from patients and ticks, have been studied. Nineteen monoclonal antibodies were produced to the 17D strain of yellow fever virus (17D YF). Chlamydophila abortus is one of the most important causative agents of enzootic abortion and other chlamydial infections of sheep and goats. The presence of specific serum antibodies to Chlamydophila abortus was studied in sheep and goats breeding in the Slovak Republic by the complement fixation test. 22,040 sheep and goats were examined during 5 years. Specific anti-Ch. abortus antibodies were found in 2,360 out of 20,878 sheep sera examined (11.7%), and in 85 out of 1,162 examined goats (7.7%). We report a 44-year-old Japanese woman with herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 2 recurrent meningitis (Mollaret's meningitis). The diagnosis was confirmed by nested polymerase chain reaction in her cerebrospinal fluid, but the patient's conventional HSV antibodies by complement fixation, neutralizing test or enzyme immunoassay showed low titres with low lymphoproliferative response.
