Manganese-Catalyzed Formate Synthesis via Coupled Methanol Dehydrogenation and Bicarbonate Reduction.

The formate salt represents an indispensable chemical found in a plethora of applications. A base-metal-catalyzed formate synthesis employing the simultaneous dehydrogenation of methanol and reduction of bicarbonate protocol is demonstrated in this paper. The reaction is catalyzed by a pincer Mn complex (Mn-1) bearing a PNHP ligand (PNHP = bis(2-(diphenylphosphino)ethyl)amine). The reaction proceeds via consecutive catalytic steps: a) the dehydrogenation of methanol, b) the reduction of bicarbonate to formate with the H2 generated from methanol dehydrogenation, and c) the formation of formate

Routine care practices for stable lung allograft recipients beyond the initial post-transplant year: An international survey study.

The pragmatic aspects of routine lung transplant recipient management are poorly described. We performed an international survey study to characterize management of stable lung transplant recipients who are beyond the initial post-transplant year. We obtained survey responses from 72 distinct lung transplant programs in 15 countries. Stable patients are monitored a median of every 3-months (IQR 3-3.25) in the ambulatory setting. Visits are accompanied by diagnostic laboratory assessments, spirometry, and chest X-ray imaging. Most centers perform between-clinic surveillance every 1-month (IQR 1

Phosphorylated Analogs of Paracetamol and Their Anti-Inflammatory Potential.

Paracetamol is a widely used analgesic and antipyretic agent; however, its use is limited by minimal anti-inflammatory activity and the risk of hepatotoxicity from prolonged oral use or in acute overdose. To address these limitations, four novel phosphorylated paracetamol analogs (2a-2d) were synthesized via a UV-radical methodology and evaluated through integrated in silico, in vitro, and in vivo for anti-inflammatory dermal approaches. Molecular docking suggested plausible binding interactions with COX-1 and COX-2 for all analogs. In vitro cytotoxicity assays in THP-1 cells showed that 2a an

Transcriptomic Challenges We Faced with Animal Models for Neurological Disorders.

Simulation of a human neurological disease on an animal model has the advantage of allowing control and manipulation of most of the regulating factors and producing real biological replicas while, beyond several common traits, every human is dynamic and unique. Moreover, one can explore novel therapeutic strategies on animals before asking permission to apply them to humans. Nevertheless, experimental outcomes depend on species, strain, sex, age, hormonal status, diet, exposure to hypoxia, toxins, radiation, external stimuli, stress, and housing conditions. Further complications stem from tiss

Evidence-based precision in TCM: A systematic review and Meta-Analysis of data mining for syndrome-specific acupoint combinations in acute asthma exacerbations.

BACKGROUND: The quest for personalized management of acute asthma exacerbations continues. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers a rich repository of empirical knowledge, but its pattern-driven recommendations lack systematic, data-driven validation. METHODS: We performed a systematic data mining analysis of TCM clinical literature on acupoint sticking therapy for acute asthma. Latent structure analysis and frequent itemset analysis were applied to 40 studies involving 2107 patients to objectively identify core syndrome patterns and their associated acupoint combinations. RESULTS: We obj

Analysis of systemic effects of dioxin on human health through template-and-anchor modeling.

Dioxins are persistent environmental pollutants known for their multiple health effects, from skin rashes to liver dysfunction, reproductive toxicity and cancer. While the hazards of dioxins have been well documented, the challenge of developing a comprehensive understanding of the overall health impact of dioxins remains. We propose to address this challenge with a new approach methodology (NAM) consisting of a novel adaptation of the Template-and-Anchor (T&A) modeling paradigm. Generically, the template model is defined as a high-level coarse-grained model capturing the main physiological pr

Replicability of a resting-state functional connectivity study in profound early blindness.

It has been shown that the choice of preprocessing pipelines to remove contamination from functional magnetic resonance images can significantly impact the results, particularly in resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) studies. This underscores the critical importance of replication studies with different preprocessing methodologies. In this study, we attempted to reproduce the rsFC results presented in an original study by Bauer et al. in 2017 on a group of sighted control (SC) and early blind (EB) subjects. By using the original dataset, we utilized another widely used software packag

Integrating gut microbiome and host transcriptomics for the personalized management of IBD.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), affects an estimated 6.8 million individuals worldwide. Although biological or small molecule drug therapies can improve patient outcomes, loss of response to treatment over time remains high, highlighting the need for new precision medicine strategies. Dysbiosis of the gut microbiome is characterized by the loss of beneficial microbes and an overgrowth of pro-inflammatory pathobionts. In IBD, gut dysbiosis contributes to chronic intestinal inflammation via altered metabolite profiles and epithelial b

Functional and structural resilience assessment in urban drainage networks: a physics-guided graph-based surrogate model.

The first step in real-time management, optimal design, and retrofitting of urban drainage networks (UDNs) involves developing a model capable of rapidly and accurately assessing resilience under various failure scenarios. This study introduces a novel physics-guided approach based on graph theory as a surrogate model for resilience assessment, offering a computationally highly efficient alternative to traditional hydrodynamic models such as the Storm Water Management Model (SWMM). Given the study's focus on resilience evaluation, only the maximum flow of subcatchments was used as input for th

Bayesian Expectile Joint Model With Varying Coefficient for Longitudinal and Semi-Competing Risks Data.

In the realm of clinical medical research, semi-competing risks data are usually observed in practice, yet there are few studies on the joint models of longitudinal and semi-competing risks data. In this paper, a joint model for longitudinal and semi-competing risks data is proposed. Based on the expectile regression, a linear mixed-effects longitudinal sub-model is formulated, and a Cox proportional hazards survival sub-model is considered under the framework of semi-competing risks. The two sub-models are linked by a shared longitudinal trajectory function. To accommodate the time-varying re

Time series analysis of ex-vivo ischemia-reperfused heart using Q-space imaging.

In the evaluation of myocardial infarction, cardiac MRI remains problematic in terms of sensitivity and quantitativeness. Thus, we sought to delineate pathological microstructural alterations across temporal phases subsequent to myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury utilizing q-space imaging (QSI), an advanced diffusion imaging methodology proficient in assessing the non-Gaussian diffusion patterns of molecules. Rats were subjected to IR injury, and infarct was evaluated at 2, 7, and 30 days via histopathological staining and MRI using a 9.4-Tesla system. QSI was performed with gadoliniu

Fatty Degenerative Osteonecrosis of the Jaw: Bridging Molecular Insights and Clinical Practice-A Scoping Review.

Fatty degenerative osteonecrosis of the jaw (FDOJ) is a chronic, aseptic inflammatory condition that is characterized by molecular disruptions in bone metabolism and necrotic bone marrow within the jawbone cavities. In contrast to the overt clinical signs typically observed in osteopathies, FDOJ frequently presents with a "silent inflammation" phenotype. The electronic databases PubMed, Scopus, and Embase were searched using appropriate search terms, and the methodology was performed according to PRISMA-ScR guidelines. The elevated expression of inflammatory mediators, particularly C-C motif C

Synthesis of Antiviral Drug Tecovirimat and Its Key Maleimide Intermediates Using Organocatalytic Mumm Rearrangement at Ambient Conditions.

Tecovirimat is an antiviral agent approved for the treatment of orthopoxvirus infections including smallpox, cowpox and monkeypox. A key challenge in its synthesis lies in the generation of maleimide intermediates, which traditionally requires high-temperature thermal rearrangement and often results in low-to-moderate yields. Classical methods rely on heating in toluene above 70 °C, limiting scalability and efficiency. Herein, we present a mild and efficient organocatalytic approach to the synthesis of tecovirimat intermediates, using a room-temperature Mumm rearrangement of isomaleimide precu
