BACKGROUND: Hair cosmetics such as hair dyes, bleaching, waving, and cleansing products are composed of numerous chemical ingredients. Allergic reactions to these contact allergens, other than p-phenylenediamine, are rarely reported.
OBJECTIVES: To study the incidence of patch test reactions to hair cosmetic allergens and identify the factors associated with hair cosmetic allergy in Thailand.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the case records of patients who underwent patch testing from 2009 to 2018. Patients with at least one positive patch test reaction to a potential contact allergen a

BACKGROUND: Overall adherence in the treatment of chronic dermatoses is poor. Textbooks state an adherence dependence on galenics.
TRIAL DESIGN: Prospective, randomized, parallel-grouped, single-blinded (investigator), monocentric clinical trial (phase IV) on the adherence to treatment of chronic mild to moderate hand eczema with topical methylprednisolone aceponate (MPA, Advantan®) in different vehicles.
OBJECTIVES AND ENDPOINTS: Primary objective was the assessment of the adherence depending on vehicle type in patients with chronic hand eczema. Secondary objective was improvement after a 4

BACKGROUND: Palmoplantar psoriasis is a clinical variant of psoriasis characterized by well-defined erythematous desquamating plaques on palms and soles, which may or may not include pustules. Hyperkeratotic lesions of palm and sole commonly include Psoriasis, Eczema and Tinea. These conditions often present with overlapping clinical and histopathological features requiring clinicohistopathological correlation for a conclusive diagnosis. The presence of munro's microabscess or spongiform pustule of kogoj differentiates psoriasis of palm and sole from other hyperkeratotic lesions of palm and so

BACKGROUND: The Hand Eczema Severity Index (HECSI) is a Clinician-Reported Outcome measure of the severity of hand eczema (HE).
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the validity, reliability and ability to detect change of the HECSI, and the HECSI-75 and HECSI-90 as responder definitions.
METHODS: Analyses were performed using data from a sample of n = 258 patients with Chronic Hand Eczema (CHE) from a Phase 2b, randomised, double-blind, vehicle-controlled trial of delgocitinib cream, pooled across treatment groups. The measurement properties of the HECSI were assessed and the adequacy o

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to enhanced hygiene procedures and use of personal protective equipment, but also to increased attention to occupational skin disease in healthcare workers. The occurrence of hand and facial skin disease in > 5,000 Swedish healthcare workers was investigated in a questionnaire survey. Levels of skin exposure related to hygiene procedures and personal protective equipment were recorded. Caring for patients with COVID-19 entailed higher levels of wet work and face mask exposures, and was associated with higher 1-year prevalence of both hand eczema (36%) and facial s

We report an 11-year-old girl who presented with white papules on the dorsal and palmar region of the hands bilaterally. The parents reported that the lesions had appeared four months before and some had resolved spontaneously. The girl was suffering from celiac disease, Down syndrome, and alopecia areata treated with topical corticosteroids. At the first visit, the girl presented with alopecia areata, corticosteroid acne, and a dozen white papules located on the hands. On dermoscopy, a whitish structureless area was seen. Histological examination showed the presence of calcium deposits withou

BACKGROUND: Onychomycosis is extremely rare in neonates, infrequently reported in children and is considered to be exclusively a disease of adults.
CASE PRESENTATION: We, herein report a case of fingernail onychomycosis in a 28-day-old, healthy, male neonate. The child presented with a history of yellowish discoloration of the fingernail of the left hand for one week. The etiological agent was demonstrated both by microscopic examination and culture of nail clippings. The isolate grown on culture was identified as Candida albicans by phenotypic characteristics and by matrix-assisted laser des

Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) secondary to acrylates and methacrylates is a well- described occurrence, particularly in those who wear or handle gel nail varnish. Management involves avoidance of the identified allergen. The cause of chronic urticaria (CI) is often not identified, and CU is not known to be associated with acrylates or methacrylates. We report a case of a 50-year-old woman who initially presented with hand dermatitis exacerbated by gel nail varnish on a background of CU. Avoiding all nail varnishes because of her ACD also resulted in improvement of her CU. To our knowledge,
