Flow cytometric DNA analysis and ABO(H) cell surface antigen expression were studied in 46 patients with cystectomies for carcinoma of bilharzial bladder. The most significant prognostic indicators were the DNA index and the status of the pelvic lymph nodes at operation. The ability of erythrocytes to absorb Vi-antigen at optimal (Sopt) and minimal (Smin) sensitizing doses in 52 patients suffering from enteric fever and 61 healthy individuals was studied. Smin has been found to be independent of ABO phenotype of both ill and healthy individuals. At the same time Sopt is considerably reduced in patients having A blood group as compared to healthy individuals. Pakistan, a resource-limited country, faces a growing number of patients with end-stage kidney disease, many of whom could benefit from living-related kidney transplantation. To expand the living donor pool, we implemented the largest ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation program in the country.
