[Health technology assessment report: Computer-assisted Pap test for cervical cancer screening].

UNLABELLED: HEALTH PROBLEM: Cervical cancer is a disease which is highly preventable by means of Pap test screening for the precancerous lesions, which can be easily treated. Furthermore, in the near future, control of the disease will be enhanced by the vaccination which prevents the infection of those human papillomavirus types that cause the vast majority of cervical cancers. The effectiveness of screening in drastically reducing cervical cancer incidence has been clearly demonstrated. The epidemiology of cervical cancer in industrialised countries is now determined mostly by the Pap test c

Methodological review reveals essential gaps and inconsistencies in clinical claims, effects, and outcomes in HTA reviews of diagnostic tests.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Essential first steps in performing a health technology assessment (HTA) for a diagnostic test include consideration of the clinical pathway in which the test will be used, specifying the clinical claim for the test (how the test may add benefit, introduce harm, or have other disadvantages beyond impact on the individual patient) and specifying the outcomes that would need to be measured to assess whether the test achieves its aims. We aimed to examine how a test evaluation framework (TEF) outlining the intended and unintended effects of tests could support the HTA pr

The association between endometriosis and autoimmune diseases: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is a chronic gynaecological disorder that affects 2-10% of women of reproductive age. The aetiology of endometriosis is largely under-explored, yet abnormalities in the immune system have been suggested to explain the origin of ectopic endometrial tissues, and an association between endometriosis and autoimmune diseases has been proposed. Evaluation of current evidence investigating the association between endometriosis and autoimmune diseases from population-based studies will facilitate our understanding of the causes and consequences of endometriosis and provide a

Education and training for preventing and minimizing workplace aggression directed toward healthcare workers.

BACKGROUND: Workplace aggression constitutes a serious issue for healthcare workers and organizations. Aggression is tied to physical and mental health issues at an individual level, as well as to absenteeism, decreased productivity or quality of work, and high employee turnover rates at an organizational level. To counteract these negative impacts, organizations have used a variety of interventions, including education and training, to provide workers with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent aggression.  OBJECTIVES: To assess the effectiveness of education and training interventions th

The effect of occupational exposure to welding fumes on trachea, bronchus and lung cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis from the WHO/ILO Joint Estimates of the Work-related Burden of Disease and Injury.

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) are the producers of the WHO/ILO Joint Estimates of the Work-related Burden of Disease and Injury (WHO/ILO Joint Estimates). Welding fumes have been classified as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1) by the WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in IARC Monograph 118; this assessment found sufficient evidence from studies in humans that welding fumes are a cause of lung cancer. In this article, we present a systematic review and meta-analysis of parameters for estimating the number of de

Measures implemented in the school setting to contain the COVID-19 pandemic: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: In response to the spread of SARS-CoV-2 and the impact of COVID-19, national and subnational governments implemented a variety of measures in order to control the spread of the virus and the associated disease. While these measures were imposed with the intention of controlling the pandemic, they were also associated with severe psychosocial, societal, and economic implications on a societal level. One setting affected heavily by these measures is the school setting. By mid-April 2020, 192 countries had closed schools, affecting more than 90% of the world's student population. In c

Barriers to Recruitment and Retention Among Underrepresented Populations in Cancer Clinical Trials: A Qualitative Study of the Perspectives of Clinical Trial Research Coordinating Staff at a Cancer Center.

BackgroundAlthough US research agencies have instituted peer review processes to require participant diversity in clinical trials before funding decisions are made, the underrepresentation of certain populations (eg, racial and ethnic minorities) in clinical trials remains a persistent challenge in biomedical research. This issue has the potential to affect the generalizability of findings and impede efforts to ensure the provision of high-quality healthcare across all populations. In this study, we examined barriers to the recruitment and retention of underrepresented populations in cancer cl

The distribution of Dlx1-2 and glutamic acid decarboxylase in the embryonic and adult hypothalamus reveals three differentiated LHA subdivisions in rodents.

The lateral hypothalamus (LHA) is still a poorly understood brain region. Based on published Dlx and Gad gene expression patterns in the embryonic and adult hypothalamus respectively, three large areas are identified in the LHA. A central tuberal LHA region is already well described as it contains neurons producing the peptides melanin-concentrating hormone or hypocretin. This region is rich in GABAergic neurons and is specified by Dlx gene expression in the rodent embryo. Rostrally and caudally bordering the tuberal LHA, two Dlx-GAD-GABA poor regions are then easily delineated. The three regi
