Robotic-assisted carinal reconstruction using cross-table ventilation.

Carinal reconstruction remains a technically challenging procedure for thoracic surgeons due to the complexity of airway resection and management. This is typically performed in the setting of tumour resection affecting the carina and distal trachea. Airway management of patients undergoing surgical resection of tumours involving the carina is highly challenging. This is due to an open, shared airway and the need for single-lung ventilation to facilitate surgery. Common modalities used for intraoperative ventilation include cross-table ventilation, veno-venous extra-corporeal membrane oxygenat

A case of Legionella pneumonia after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy.

INTRODUCTION: Postoperative Legionella pneumonia is very rare. CASE PRESENTATION: A 71-year-old male patient with prostate cancer (cT2bN0M0) underwent a robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy. On the 5th postoperative day, the patient developed chills and a fever of 39.2°C. Chest radiography revealed decreased permeability in the right middle lung field, leading to the diagnosis of postoperative pneumonia. Antimicrobial therapy was initiated immediately. Blood tests on postoperative day 10 revealed mild liver function abnormalities, electrolyte abnormalities, and a markedly elevated inflammat

Robotic Spleen-Preserving Distal Pancreatectomy: The Warshaw and Kimura Techniques.

Spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy offers an alternative surgical approach to the traditional distal pancreatectomy combined with splenectomy for removing benign and low-grade malignant lesions in the distal pancreas, avoiding complications associated with splenectomy. This procedure can be accomplished either by resecting and ligating the splenic vessels (Warshaw technique) or by preserving them (Kimura technique). Currently, the widespread use of minimally invasive surgery has established laparoscopic and robotic approaches for spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy as valid and safe o

Complete retroperitoneal cutaneous ureterostomy with robot-assisted radical cystectomy.

INTRODUCTION: Cutaneous ureterostomy is beneficial for older patients in a hypoalimentation state, providing less invasive options than intestinal tract reconstruction techniques. However, complications such as ileus and stoma site hernia still pose risks owing to the anatomical location of the ureter. We introduce a novel method, complete retroperitoneal cutaneous ureterostomy, performed simultaneously with robot-assisted radical cystectomy. CASE PRESENTATION: Our technique involves extending the retroperitoneal space to minimize complications and achieve stent-free outcomes. The median proc

Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Repair of Petit's Hernia With Preperitoneal Mesh.

Lumbar hernias are rare abdominal wall hernias that occur in the posterolateral abdominal wall. Intra-peritoneal or extra-peritoneal contents typically protrude through defects in one of two anatomical triangles. The superior lumbar triangle (Grynfeltt-Lesshaft triangle) is an inverted triangle bordered by the 12th rib superiorly, the internal oblique muscle laterally, and the erector spinae muscle medially. The inferior lumbar triangle (Petit's triangle) is an upright triangle bordered by the iliac crest inferiorly, the external oblique muscle laterally, and the latissimus dorsi muscle medial

Revolutionizing Atrial Fibrillation Treatment: The Robotic Convergent Plus Procedure.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is widely accepted to be the most common sustained arrhythmia, with an increasing incidence over time. This is thought to be due to the aging population across the world. AF occurs when abnormal electrical foci result in disorganization of atrial depolarization, though the exact pathophysiology leading to these abnormal foci is not well understood. A range of interventions exist for AF - pharmacological therapies (anti-arrhythmic or negative chronotropic medications), cardioversion, or ablations to interrupt the abnormal conduction pathways. Ablation may be via a cathe

Research progress of robot and laparoscope in postoperative complications of rectal cancer.

Rectal cancer is one of the most common malignant tumours worldwide, and it is also one of the major diseases that seriously threatens human life and health. At present, the main treatment for rectal cancer is still surgical treatment. The surgical methods have been rapidly developed from the previous open surgery to the current minimally invasive surgery. At present, there are two main minimally invasive surgeries: robotic surgery and laparoscopic surgery. Due to the particularity of rectal cancer surgery, more and more studies have shown that robotic rectal cancer surgery has more advantages

As the global surgical robotic ecosystem diversifies, multi-platform surgery is becoming increasingly common. The natural question is whether these robots differ in performance and cost. We address this question and report the first systematic review comparing platforms. A systematic search identified clinical studies comparing at least two platforms. Of 287 studies, 31 were included, with 5 RCTs and 26 cohort studies, including 3624 patients. All studies compared da Vinci with Hintori, Hugo, KangDuo, Micro-Hand, Revo-I, Senhance, and Versius robots. Comparisons were across specialties: urolog

A Robotic Clamped-Kinematic System to Study Knee Ligament Injury.

Knee ligament injury is among the most common sports injuries and is associated with long recovery periods and low return-to-sport rates. Unfortunately, the mechanics of ligament injury are difficult to study in vivo, and computational studies provide limited insight. The objective of this study was to implement and validate a robotic system capable of reproducing natural six degree-of-freedom clamped-kinematic trajectories on human cadaver knees (meaning that positions and orientations are rigidly controlled and resultant loads are measured). To accomplish this, we leveraged the field's recen

[Design and research of a pneumatic soft intestine robot imitating the inchworm].

In order to seek a patient friendly and low-cost intestinal examination method, a structurally simple pneumatic soft intestinal robot inspired by inchworms is designed and manufactured. The intestinal robot was consisted of two radially expanding cylindrical rubber film airbags for anchoring and one low density polyethylene film airbag for axial elongation, which achieved movement in the intestine by mimicking the crawling of inchworms. Theoretical derivation was conducted on the relationship between the internal air pressure of the anchored airbag and the free deformation size after expansion

Somatosensory integration in robot-assisted motor restoration post-stroke.

Disruption of somatosensorimotor integration (SMI) after stroke is a significant obstacle to achieving precise motor restoration. Integrating somatosensory input into motor relearning to reconstruct SMI is critical during stroke rehabilitation. However, current robotic approaches focus primarily on precise control of repetitive movements and rarely effectively engage and modulate somatosensory responses, which impedes motor rehabilitation that relies on SMI. This article discusses how to effectively regulate somatosensory feedback from target muscles through peripheral and central neuromodulat
