Material parameterization including damage for predicting diver lung underwater explosion (UNDEX) injury.

A computational framework for predicting the mechanical response of the lung to underwater explosions (UNDEX) is presented that integrates anatomically informed finite-element geometry with carefully chosen constitutive descriptions and parameterization strategies. Consistent with the limited fidelity for the employed diver torso model which includes the lungs, diaphragm, and abdomen, but not the ribcage, emphasis is placed on creating a parameterization methodology for capturing the hyperelastic and hyperviscoelastic tissue behavior including damage. In order to circumvent the need for direct

Computational approaches for identifying quorum sensing inhibitors.

Quorum sensing (QS) is a critical cell-to-cell communication mechanism employed by microorganisms to coordinate their collective behaviors, including biofilm formation, virulence regulation, and development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Disruption of QS using quorum sensing inhibitors (QSIs) has emerged as a promising anti-virulence strategy for combating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. This review focuses on new technologies in drug discovery applied to the identification and optimization of QSIs, with particular emphasis on computational and data-driven methods. The key method

Bmal1 knockout aggravates Porphyromonas gingivalis-induced periodontitis by activating the NF-κB pathway.

BACKGROUND: Circadian rhythm disorders and NF-κB are closely linked and can exacerbate periodontitis. However, the mechanisms via which circadian rhythm-related genes influence periodontitis are not yet fully understood. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the effect of brain and muscle Arnt-like protein-1 (BMAL1) on the NF-κB pathway and downstream inflammatory factors on periodontitis. In this study, Bmal1 homozygous knockout and periodontitis mouse models were established. METHODOLOGY: Bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) from Bmal1-/- mice were cultured and stimulated with lipopolysaccharides.

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance versus coronary computed tomography angiography with fractional flow reserve for diagnosing obstructive coronary artery disease in higher risk patients: rationale and design of CONCORD-A prospective, single-center diagnostic accuracy study.

BACKGROUND: In patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD), the optimal diagnostic algorithm remains uncertain. Non-invasive imaging plays a central role as a "gatekeeper" to invasive coronary angiography, with both cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) with fractional flow reserve (FFRCT) proving effective in reducing unnecessary invasive procedures. However, direct comparisons between the two modalities are limited. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY: CONCORD is a prospective, single-center study comparing the diagnostic accuracy of

Role of Zn(II) in the aggregation of the 6aJL2R24G protein: Experimental and theoretical approach.

Light chain amyloidosis is a conformational disease, and one of the most common systemic amyloidosis. It is characterized by the deposition of amyloid aggregates of immunoglobulin light chains in organs and tissues. 6aJL2R24G is a recombinant variant of the λ6a germline protein, a germline present in 25 % of the amyloid-associated λ6a light chain amyloidosis cases. In this study, using spectroscopic and computational methodologies, we found that the interaction of this protein with Zn(II) accelerates amyloid fibril initiation and slows down elongation, without altering the fiber morphology. Sensor-Oriented Framework for Underwater Acoustic Signal Classification Using EMD-Wavelet Filtering and Bayesian-Optimized Random Forest.

Ship acoustic signal classification is essential for vessel identification, underwater navigation, and maritime security. Traditional methods struggle with the non-stationary nature and noise of ship acoustic signals, reducing classification accuracy. To address these challenges, we propose an automated pipeline that integrates Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD), adaptive wavelet filtering, feature selection, and a Bayesian-optimized Random Forest classifier. The framework begins with EMD-based decomposition, where the most informative Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) are selected using Signal-

Quantum chimp-enanced SqueezeNet for precise diabetic retinopathy classification.

Diabetic retinopathy remains a prominent cause of blindness throughout the world, and it is a product of prolonged high blood sugar levels that degrade the retinal blood vessels. This makes early detection of DR critical to stop irreversible blindness from occurring. This paper presents an advanced hybrid approach that utilizes the Quantum Chimp Optimization Algorithm (QCOA) integrated with SqueezeNet to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of DR classification significantly. The novel methodology was divided into two main stages: feature extraction and classification. Firstly, SqueezeNet enabl

Optimization of emergency logistics for urban flooding with consideration of rainfall effects.

Urban flooding frequently causes significant damage to infrastructure and facilities, leading to critical supply shortages in affected regions. Ensuring rapid and efficient distribution of relief supplies remains a key challenge during disaster response operations. This study proposes a two-stage optimization framework for emergency logistics. First, a supply distribution model is developed by integrating resource scarcity indices and disaster severity indices, optimized through a simulated annealing algorithm. Second, a vehicle routing model accounting for rainfall and dynamic vehicle speeds

Assessing Nonbonded Aggregates Populations: Application to the Concentration-Dependent IR O-H Band of Phenol.

In this work, we present two alternative computational strategies to determine the populations of nonbonded aggregates. One approach extracts these populations from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, while the other employs quantum mechanical partition functions for the most relevant minima of the multimolecular potential energy surfaces (PESs), identified by automated conformational sampling. In both cases, we adopt a common graph-theory-based framework, introduced in this work, for identifying aggregate conformations, which enables a consistent comparative assessment of both methodologies
