[A case of aortitis syndrome diagnosed with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron tomography (18F-FDG-PET) in the early pre-pulseless phase].

A 14-year-old girl with aortitis syndrome in the early pre-pulseless phase was admitted to our hospital because of slight fever, neck bruit, asymmetrical blood pressure, stenosis or dilatation of the main branch arteries in aorta on chest computed tomography. Laboratory examination revealed a high level of C-reactive protein and an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, as well as hypergammaglobulinemia, and 18F-FDG-PET revealed an accumulation of 18 fluorodeoxyglucose in the great vessels. She was first given pulse therapy with a combination of methylprednisolone and intravenous cyclophosph

FDG-PET scanning in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancers.

This review deals with the current, well-established indications for two-(18F)-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) scanning in patients with gastrointestinal cancers. FDG-PET is a non-invasive, functional imaging technique. FDG exploits the native glucose transporter to enter the cell. Since many tumours have enhanced glucose uptake, FDG is readily accumulated in malignant cells and can be detected by a PET camera. FDG-PET has been established as an important diagnostic tool in clinical oncology. This review deals with the current, well-established indications for F

Nuclear imaging. 67Gallium, 201thallium, 18F-labeled fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography.

67Gallium scan has been used for years in sarcoidosis as a marker of activity, a determiner of the extent and distribution of the disease, a diagnostic support, and an aid in therapeutic management. Because of its limited sensitivity and specificity for sarcoidosis, however, it is currently used mainly to assist in diagnosis in difficult cases, particularly in those with isolated extrathoracic sarcoidosis. The finding of the typical lambda or panda patterns supports the diagnosis and reinforces the indication to perform an appropriate biopsy or Kveim-Siltzbach test. In addition, the detection

Evaluation of hypermetabolic mediastinal-hilar lymph nodes determined by PET/CT with EBUS-TBNA and calculation of SUVmax cutoff values in differentiation of malignancy.

Computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) are the most commonly used methods for diagnosis and staging in both malignant and benign diseases of the lung parenchyma and mediastinum. Endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) guided transbronchial needle aspiration biopsy (TBNA) has become widespread in recent years because it allows minimally invasive tissue sampling. PET-CT has high sensitivity in the diagnosis of malignancy but has low specificity. The false positive rate is high with the SUVmax 2.5 cutoff value, which is widely used in studies about malignancy. In our study,

Intrapulmonary Myelolipoma Depicted by 18 F-FDG PET/CT.

Myelolipoma is an uncommon, nonmalignant neoplasm characterized by the presence of mature fat cells and normally differentiated hematopoietic elements. While adrenal involvement is the most common anatomic location, pulmonary myelolipomas are exceptionally rare. To date, the 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging profile of intrapulmonary myelolipomas has been scarcely documented and remains incompletely understood. Here, we report a diagnostically ambiguous case of intrapulmonary myelolipoma and comprehensively evaluate its 18 F-FDG PET/CT features.

The value of [18F]FDG PET/CT in fever of unknown origin (FUO): an update and future aspects.

Fever of unknown origin (FUO) is a clinical diagnostic challenge because its symptoms are often vague and its causes varied. Although the use of 2-deoxy-2-[18F]-fluoro-d-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ([18F]FDG PET/CT) is on the rise to help solve these cases, the optimal timing and strategy for its application remains under debate. As a comprehensive whole-body imaging modality, [18F]FDG PET/CT reveals areas of increased uptake and it is highly effective for detecting active oncological diseases, infectious or inflammatory foci that might be missed by radiological im

Standardization of infection [18F]FDG-PET/CT imaging protocols and reporting criteria.

[18F]FDG-PET/CT (infection PET) has emerged as a key modality in the evaluation and management of patients with suspected or proven infection. Despite several recommendations addressing general preparation, acquisition, interpretation and reporting, infection PET/CT remains insufficiently standardized across indications and centers. This review provides a comprehensive overview of general and indication-specific aspects of infection PET and proposes clinically applicable suggestions to harmonize protocols, maximize the diagnostic performance and its contribution to patient management.

The Value of FDG PET/CT in Penile Cancer: An Update.

Penile cancer is a rare malignancy predominantly of squamous cell histology, whose prognosis is strongly influenced by lymph node involvement. Conventional imaging methods such as CT, MRI, and ultrasound have limitations in assessing metastatic spread. [¹⁸F]FDG PET/CT, a metabolic imaging technique, has shown increasing value in the staging, restaging, and treatment monitoring of penile cancer. Evidence, although limited, demonstrates high sensitivity and specificity, particularly in detecting inguinal and pelvic lymph node metastases, outperforming conventional imaging in most cases. [¹⁸F]FDG

Stroke Occurring in 18 F-FDG PET/CT Session.

A 72-year-old woman was appointed for 18 F-FDG PET/CT for restaging of lung adenocarcinoma. Initial whole-body 18 F-FDG PET/CT revealed a focal hypermetabolic area in the right lung, suspicious for lung metastasis, while no abnormalities were present in the partially depicted skull. Since the patient presented with a massive headache during examination, an additionally performed cranial PET/CT scan without further tracer injection revealed an intracerebral hematoma and wedge-shaped glucose hypometabolism in the left occipital lobe. An additional contrast-enhanced cranial CT performed 45 minute

FDG-PET/CT for Effective Staging of Disseminated Blastomycosis.

We present the case of a 67-year-old man undergoing immunosuppressive therapy with known pulmonary blastomycosis who presented with knee swelling and fever. FDG-PET/CT performed to exclude septic arthritis revealed increased uptake within the right epididymis and multiple osteoarticular, cutaneous, and subcutaneous sites. Cultures obtained from bronchoalveolar lavage, urine, right knee arthrocentesis, and subcutaneous tissue all demonstrated Blastomyces dermatitidis , compatible with disseminated blastomycosis (DB). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of DB in a human subject

Loss of Mickey Mouse Ears' Sign in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is the most prevalent form of degenerative atypical parkinsonism. Clinical manifestations of PSP commonly encompass deficits in vertical gaze, postural stability, akinesia, and cognitive impairment. The characteristic metabolic pattern observed in PSP through FDG PET displays hypometabolism in the midbrain, striatum, thalamus, and frontal lobe. However, visual interpretation of midbrain hypometabolism poses challenges. In this report, we aim to elucidate a novel observation termed the "loss of Mickey Mouse ears' sign," which signifies midbrain hypometabolis

Non-FDG hypoxia tracers.

Hypoxia plays a critical role in tumor biology, influencing cancer progression, treatment resistance, and patient prognosis. While 18-Fluorine fluoredeoxyglucose ([18F]F-FDG) PET imaging has been the standard for metabolic assessment, its limitations in accurately depicting hypoxic tumor regions necessitate the exploration of non-FDG hypoxia tracers. This review aims to evaluate emerging non-FDG radiotracers, such as nitroimidazole derivatives, copper-based agents, gallium-based agents and other innovative compounds, highlighting their mechanisms of action, biodistribution, and clinical applic

Postoperative Spinal 18 F-FDG PET Pseudoprogression Mimicking Malignancy.

A 60-year-old woman presented with left upper limb weakness. Spinal MRI revealed C2-C3 heterogeneous mass with no hypermetabolic foci on 18 F-FDG PET. Total resection was performed, and the pathology showed gliosis. Her limb weakness worsened 3 months after surgery. Spinal MRI revealed long intramedullary mass from medulla oblongata to C5, which showed obvious hypermetabolism under 18 F-FDG PET with an SUV max of 7.11, but 18 F-FET PET indicated mild hypermetabolism with an SUV max of 2.29. Malignancy was suspected, and C2-C4 biopsy was performed. The pathology results confirmed the diagnosis
