BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Postpoliomyelitis sequelae, such as gait instability and progressive weakness, predispose people with postpolio syndrome to secondary disabilities. With aging, people who depend on their upper extremities to accommodate lower-extremity deficits may anticipate overuse injuries. The purpose of this case report is to describe the use of mobilization and exercise in postoperative rehabilitation of rotator cuff surgery on a patient with postpolio syndrome.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 48-year-old woman with postpolio syndrome had rotator cuff surgical repair followed by physical the

BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff tendinopathy (RCT) is a common clinical diagnosis of pain and dysfunction in the shoulder. In conjunction with clinical tests, diagnostic ultrasound (US) is beneficial in the diagnosis of RCT through its ability to visualise tendon structural change. However, there is currently no standardised method to assess RCT with US.
AIMS/PURPOSE: The primary aim of this systematic review was to identify the common US parameters used to diagnose RCT with US. The secondary aim was to determine whether a nominal or ordinal scale should be used to diagnose RCT with US.
METHODS: A

OBJECTIVE: The goal of this systematic review is to determine the prevalence of these testing systems in the current rotator cuff literature, determine the most common outcome measurements evaluated with each of these systems, and discuss the benefits and limitations of each of these modalities.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A PubMed search was conducted to identify studies utilizing either dynamic or static whole shoulder models to assess rotator cuff pathology with or without subsequent repair. For each study, the repair method, the outcomes measured, and the loading forces used were collected. Th

There is a high incidence of rotator cuff injuries in the adult population, and there are well-described techniques for the most common types. Full-thickness transtendon rotator cuff tears are an uncommon injury, and there is limited literature on the appropriate treatment. These rare injuries are important to recognize due to the risk of repair failure using traditional techniques. Simply anchoring the medial portion of the tendon to the anatomic footprint after debriding the lateral tendon risks overtensioning the tendon. Previous techniques share the problem of poor visualization and diffic…

Currently, the predominant method for repairing rotator cuff involves surgical suture techniques, but the failure rate remains notably high. … atches encapsulating TDSCs have shown considerable potential in promoting tendon-to-bone healing of rotator cuff injuries, indicating that their use in rotator cuff repair surgery is clinically meaningful.

Arthroscopy : the journal of arthroscopic & related surgery : official publication of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the International Arthroscopy Association1998eng
During three consecutive ski seasons (1991 to 1994), 125 patients 40 years of age and older without previous shoulder injuries or surgery sustained a traumatic first-time anterior shoulder dislocation. At a minimum of 2 years' follow-up, patients were contacted to determine long-term outcome and to identify factors leading to prolonged morbidity or the need for surgical intervention. Fifty-two patients were available for interview. A modified Rowe shoulder score showed 32 excellent, nine good, eight fair, and three poor results. Eighteen (35%) rotator cuff tears were subsequently identified, w

The challenge of managing massive irreparable rotator cuff tears is not solved through technical complexity alone but through achieving balance between biological restoration and mechanical reinforcement. Superior capsule reconstruction using the long head of the biceps tendon offers static and dynamic advantages, whereas tendon transfers provide additional posterior force vectors to restore external rotation. The combined "static-dynamic" strategy may represent an evolving biologically based alternative for selected patients who are not candidates for arthroplasty.

The prognostic significance of delaminated rotator cuff tears remains controversial. However, as the surgical goal is to maximize the contact area between layers, the macroscopic appearance of partial delaminated rotator cuff tears is essential. The aim of this anatomical study was to investigate the morphology of delaminated rotator cuff tears. We hypothesized that delamination zones at the intersection of the supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendon fibers are the origin of articular-side degenerative rotator cuff tears. Forty anatomical specimens were evaluated in this study. The supraspinatu

We aimed to describe outcomes, including shoulder motion, deltoid strength and Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand scores, in 19 patients with terrible triad shoulder injuries (anterior shoulder dislocation, rotator cuff tear or greater tuberosity fracture, and axillary nerve injury) who required axillary nerve reconstruction. The type of nerve surgery (grafting vs. nerve transfer), demographic factors and injury characteristics were not significantly associated with outcomes. The mean postoperative abduction and Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand score were 95° and 28, respectively. Pa

BACKGROUND: Throwing athletes with shoulder pain have been shown to have decreased rotator cuff muscle strength. Shoulder internal impingement and labral peel-back mechanism, as may occur during the late cocking phase of throwing motion, are thought to cause rotator cuff injury and type II superior labrum anterior and posterior lesions. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the effect of rotator cuff muscle force on internal impingement and the peel-back of the superior labrum by quantifying maximum external rotation, glenohumeral contact pressure, and position of the cuff inser

BACKGROUND: The prevalence and severity of concomitant rotator cuff pathology in the setting of proximal biceps tendon ruptures are poorly understood. Concomitant rotator cuff disease may have important implications in the prognosis and natural history of this shoulder condition. Therefore, an observational cohort of patients with an acute rupture of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) was evaluated to determine the prevalence and severity of concomitant rotator cuff disease.
METHODS: Thirty consecutive patients diagnosed with acute proximal biceps tendon rupture were prospectively enro
