BACKGROUND: A wealth of scientific evidence supports the effectiveness of HIV prophylaxis and treatment. Homelessness is strongly associated with the health status and viral suppression among underserved populations and can undermine the national plan to eliminate HIV by 2030. This retrospective observational study examined the extent in which homelessness affects HIV treatment in an underserved urban area of Middle Tennessee in 2014-2019.

Chest tube thoracostomy (CTT) is essential for lung expansion, but protocol discrepancies exist across trauma centers. This prospective study compared CTT protocols between an urban (center 1) and rural (center 2) level 1 trauma center in East Tennessee from June to August 2023. 66 trauma patients required CTT (51 from center 1 and 15 from center 2). Sixteen species of parasitic or phoretic arthropods were collected from 56 white-footed mice, Peromyscus leucopus, live-trapped in central Tennessee from April through November 1987.
