Integrated Nd:YAG-Er:YAG-SWEEPS Laser Approach for Maxillary Dental Trauma in an Anticoagulated Geriatric Patient.

Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) in older adults present complex clinical and public health challenges because of frailty, multimorbidity, and antithrombotic therapy. Invasive surgery in anticoagulated patients increases the risk of hemorrhage and delayed healing. Multiwavelength laser systems provide a minimally invasive alternative, combining precise ablation, hemostasis, and disinfection. A 92-year-old woman receiving anticoagulant therapy for atrial fibrillation presented with multiple anterior maxillary fractures following a fall. The right maxillary central incisor (Tooth 11) showed a co

Combining 3D Multi-Object Reconstruction with Finite Element Analysis for Accurate Dental Modelling and Restoration.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: This study present a novel approach to dental digital modelling that combines 3D multi-object reconstruction with Finite Element Modelling (FEM) to create anatomically accurate and biomechanically stable dental models. The proposed approach overcomes limitations of traditional imaging techniques, such as resolution constraints, artifacts, noise, and poor soft tissue contrast, enabling precise analysis of stress distribution and material behaviour. METHODS: A 3D model of a right maxillary central incisor (tooth no. 11) was developed and adapted into 4 variations receivin

A 4.3-million-year-old Australopithecus anamensis mandible from Ileret, East Turkana, Kenya, and its paleoenvironmental context.

A hominin mandible, KNM-ER 63000, and associated vertebrate remains were recovered in 2011 from Area 40 in East Turkana, Kenya. Tephrostratigraphic and magnetostratigraphic analyses indicate that these fossils date to ∼4.3 Ma. KNM-ER 63000 consists of articulating but worn and weathered mandibular corpora, with a broken right M2 crown and alveoli preserved at other tooth positions. Despite extensive damage, KNM-ER 63000 preserves diagnostic anatomy permitting attribution to Australopithecus anamensis. It can be distinguished from Australopithecus afarensis by its strongly inclined symphyseal a

A novel surgical approach to impacted mandibular third molars to reduce the risk of paresthesia: a case series.

PURPOSE: Extraction of impacted mandibular third molars (M3s) may cause temporary or permanent neurosensorial disturbances of the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN). Although the incidence of this complication is low, a great range of variability has been reported in the literature. Several methods to reduce or eliminate this complication have been proposed, such as orthodontic-assisted extraction, extraction of the second molar, or intentional odontoectomy. The purpose of this series of cases is to present a novel approach for a riskless extraction of impacted mandibular M3s in contact with the IA

Effect of power arm length and attachment configuration on maxillary molar mesialization with clear aligners: a finite element analysis.

BACKGROUND: Maxillary molar mesialization with clear aligners is challenging because achieving controlled root movement without excessive mesial tipping remains difficult. Although power arms can modify the force system, the combined effects of power-arm length and attachment configuration on molar displacement and tipping remain insufficiently characterized. This study evaluated the effects of 6-, 8-, and 10-mm power arms combined with two attachment configurations during maxillary first molar mesialization using three-dimensional finite element analysis. METHODS: The attachment configuratio

Use of an intraoral scanner to evaluate orthodontic treatment for dental malocclusion in a dog.

OBJECTIVE: In human dental practice, intraoral scanners (IOSs) are increasingly used to evaluate the oral cavity. However, there have been no reports concerning evaluation of the canine oral cavity using IOSs in veterinary dentistry. In this case, optical impressions obtained with an IOS were used for 3-D evaluation of the orthodontic treatment outcome. Additionally, few reports have addressed the optimal orthodontic force for canine teeth. Therefore, this case explored whether sufficient tooth movement into the extraction site could be achieved with a lighter orthodontic force than previously

Factors that influence the outcomes of surgical endodontic treatment.

Surgical endodontic treatment encompasses a broad spectrum of procedures, amongst which root-end cavity preparation and filling, retrograde root canal treatment and through-and-through endodontic surgery, may be classified under the umbrella term 'Root-end surgery'. This narrative review considers the available data on periapical healing, soft tissue healing, tooth survival and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), following root-end surgery and the factors that affect its outcomes. The pooled periapical healed rate for the studies published up to 2021 was 69% (95% CI: 65%, 73%) but in

Methods for Assessing and Measuring Tooth Wear-Applications in Clinical Research and a Comparison of the Basic Erosive Wear Examination, Tooth Wear Index and Tooth Wear Evaluation System Version 2.0.

BACKGROUND: Tooth wear is an increasing concern, particularly among younger individuals, driven by lifestyle and dietary changes as well as by bruxism. This condition, including attrition, abrasion and erosion, can result in sensitivity, aesthetic decline and functional impairment. Although dental caries prevention has improved, tooth wear remains a complex, multifactorial problem requiring early detection and effective management. OBJECTIVES: This paper is a literature survey that provides an overview and compares three diagnostic systems for tooth wear assessment-the Smith and Knight Index

Patterns of phenotypic expression of human junctional, gingival and reduced enamel epithelia in vivo and in vitro.

Epithelia differ regionally in their patterns of phenotypic expression. The junctional epithelium (JE) that attaches the oral mucosa to the teeth is a unique tissue that shows a pattern of differentiation unlike other oral epithelia and forms basal lamina against the non-vital tooth surface. The mechanisms that establish this unusual phenotype and the developmental origin of this epithelium are both uncertain. The formation of JE by downgrowth of the oral gingival epithelium (OGE) during tooth eruption has been suggested but morphological studies indicate that it may be derived from the reduce

Mini-implants as provisional anchorage for the replacement of missing anterior teeth: a clinical report.

This clinical report describes an adult patient referred for orthodontic treatment with mini-implants as anchorage to correct the root angulation of maxillary lateral incisors. The purpose of this report was to demonstrate the versatility of mini-implants placed in a vertical direction in esthetic areas. During orthodontic treatment, some aspects must be observed to preserve the interim restoration against the occlusal loads to avoid screw fracture. A fixed appliance was placed to correct the position of the maxillary anterior teeth and to complete the treatment. Acceptable esthetics and funct
