PURPOSE: To determine the clinical differences between sclerosing orbital inflammation (SOI) isolated to the orbit and SOI manifesting as part of systemic inflammatory disease.
METHODS: For the case series, the authors identified patients with SOI from their patient database and tabulated their clinical data. For the literature review, a search for case reports of SOI in the English literature was performed. The clinical data of each were tabulated and analyzed.

The histologic features and the association with autoimmune diseases suggest an immune-mediated disorder with marked inflammatory vascular and perivascular lesions. The case of a 67 year old woman is reported who presented with cholestatic jaundice and was found to have, in addition, an inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm. A false aneurysm arising from an aortofemoral bifurcation graft caused symptomatic ureteral obstruction in a 69-year-old woman. Following revision of the aortograft anastomosis, her symptoms and ureteral obstruction subsided. The prevention and treatment of ureteral complications following vascular surgery are discussed. Postoperative pyelograms may be indicated in the vascular bypass patient.

Ureteric obstruction after aortic femoral bypass grafting is reported in 2 cases. This complication may occur more frequently than is suspected. In these 2 cases the ureter lay in its normal position in front of the graft whilst in most reported cases the ureter was passing behind the graft. Treatment is discussed.

Ureteral stricture is not a common urologic condition. Balloon dilatation represents one of the least invasive methods for treatment of ureteral strictures. We retrospectively analysed 24 patients with ureteral strictures treated with retrograde balloon dilatation in our department. Ureteral obstruction after renal transplantation is due mostly to retroperitoneal fibrosis in the area of surgical dissection, and pyeloureterostomy is the treatment of choice for such an obstruction. We report on 32 patients with testicular tumor who--after earlier retroperitoneal lymph node dissection--underwent a second-look operation. Whereas in 16 patients vital tumor tissue was found in the retroperitoneum 9 patients had only degenerative changes with fibrosis and necrosis.
