[Clinical aspects of capillary malformations].

Capillary malformations (CM) are defects of the dermal capillary bed. These slow-flow malformations can affect any part of the body and are always lateralized, despite Unna's naevus. Present at birth, they grow proportionally with the child. In rare instance, they can be part of a more complex syndrome such as Sturge-Weber syndrome. Ectatic CMs of telangiectatic types can be cutaneous, isolated, multiples, diffuse or generalized. In rare instance, they can be associated with epidermal modifications. They can also be part of a syndrome such as Fabry disease, Osler-Weber-Rendu disorder or Cutis

Spinal intradural capillary hemangioma.

BACKGROUND: Capillary hemangiomas are typically superficial lesions found in the skin or mucosa of the head and neck, but intradural locations are rare. We report a case of the spinal intradural capillary hemangioma of the lumbar spine with a review of the pertinent literature. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 59-year-old man presented with a 3-month history of low back pain and left leg pain. On examinations, the patient was shown to have paresthesia in the left L4, L5, and S1 dermatome and a diminution of the left knee jerk. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an approximately 2-cm intradural enhancing

Capillary blood viscosity in microcirculation.

As known, at the arteriolar level there is the highest resistance to the flow due to the section and to the velocity with an average pressure fall of 50 mmHg (from 85 to 35 mmHg). This resistance is expressed in sec(-1) by the ratio W/2r. This ratio is very high with an average value of 332 sec(-1) and viscosity at this high shear-rate is negligible. At the capillary level the pressure fall is 11.5 mmHg but the vascular resistance W/2r is much lower, on average 32 sec(-1). We can say that if a resistance of 333 sec(-1) corresponds with a pressure fall of 50 mmHg, then a resistance of 32 sec(-1

[Capillary hyperpermeability syndrome of the face].

BACKGROUND: Capillary leak syndrome is a rare disorder, with various clinical features, characterized by episodes of diffuse edema. CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 83 year-old woman with capillary leak syndrome of the face characterized by recurrent episodes of edamata. We found a follicular non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and high levels of plasma interleukin (IL) 2 and IL 6. Regression of edema and remission of hematology disease have been obtained with corticoids and chloraminophene. DISCUSSION: This case illustrates that capillary leak syndrome may present as an edema of the face and may be

Analysis of agrochemicals by capillary electrophoresis.

An increasing amount of articles using capillary electrophoresis as an investigation tool for pesticides and environmental pollutants were found over the last few years in analytical chemistry oriented journals. This review covers a wide literature range of the 1990s and concentrates on the analysis of organic agrochemicals (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, acaricides, etc.) with capillary electrophoresis (capillary zone electrophoresis, micellar electrokinetic chromatography with CE-UV-visible or laser-induced fluorescence detection) as well as with the on-coming hyphenated techniques li

Myoglobinuria detection by capillary electrophoresis.

Capillary electrophoresis was used in this study to separate urinary myoglobin from hemoglobin based on its electrophoretic mobility. Urine was applied directly without any treatment. The separation was accomplished in less than 7 min. Myoglobin extracted from human muscle tissues was separated, in a borate buffer 150 mM, pH 8.7 containing 0.5% polyethyleneglycol at 6 kV, into two peaks (MI and MII) which were also resolved far from hemoglobin. Upon standing at room temperature, MII converted into MI. Horse myoglobin eluted close to MI. The addition of polyethyleneglycol to the buffer enhanced

Visceral intravascular capillary hemangioma.

In the course of routine pathologic examination of an ovarian serous cystadenoma excised from a 35-year-old woman, an intravascular mass in the cyst capsule was noted. Histologically, this was found to be an intravenous capillary hemangioma. To our knowledge, no such lesion has been previously reported. The relationship of this lesion to intravenous pyogenic granuloma and features by which the two may be distinguished are discussed. Other primary intravascular endothelial tumors are briefly reviewed.

Capillary hemangioma of the sphenoid bone.

A capillary hemangioma in the body of the sphenoid bone produced unilateral optic atrophy in a 13-year-old boy. The typical reticulated appearance of an osseous hemangioma was clearly demonstrated only on direct magnification radiographs. At angiography, patchy filling occurred through vessels arising from the internal carotid and internal maxillary arteries bilaterally. The few other reports of sphenoid hemangiomas are reviewed.

Assessment of capillary functions in man.

Capillary functions in humans can be assessed by measuring capillary filtration and capillary diffusion capacity in the extremities. Examination of these two parameters supplements each other and renders it possible to evaluate capillary function from different aspects. As an example of practical use may serve the findings in patients with obliterating atherosclerosis of the lower extremities and in subjects with chronic venous insufficiency. The authors revealed a rised capillary diffussion capacity on obliterated extremities and a reduced capillary filtration in venous insufficiency. It is p

Differentiation of arterioles and capillaries in human blood vessel organoids with decellularized splenic matrix.

Vascular organoids show great promise for promoting angiogenesis post-myocardial infarction, but current organoid culture methods only form capillaries in vitro, while relying on Matrigel faces challenges due to its undefined composition and potential immune reactions, which hinder clinical translation. To address this issue, a splenic extracellular matrix-derived thermoresponsive hydrogel (SpGel) with type I collagen was developed. This matrix has defined components, avoids the immune response triggered by viruses in Matrigel, and demonstrates the ability to enhance arterioles and capillary d…

Capillaries susceptible to frequent stall dynamics revealed by comparing OCT and bessel-2PM measurements.

Transient stoppages of red blood cell (RBC) flow through capillaries-termed capillary stalls-occur persistently in neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and ischemic stroke and can interrupt oxygen delivery and exacerbate neurological damage. Effective imaging tools and analyses are necessary to understand the nature, role, and prevention of stalls. In this study, we dissect differences in stalls measured by two-photon Bessel beam microscopy (Bessel-2PM) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) to gain insight into the temporal dynamics of stalls. Twenty-minute series of volumetric …

Both Classical and Non-Classical Monocytes Patrol Glomerular Capillaries and Promote Acute Glomerular Inflammation.

Monocyte patrolling of the vasculature has been ascribed primarily to the non-classical monocyte subset. However, a recent study of the glomerular microvasculature provided evidence that both classical and non-classical monocytes undergo periods of intravascular retention and migration. Despite this, whether these subsets contribute differentially to acute glomerular inflammation is unknown. This study used glomerular multiphoton intravital microscopy to investigate the capacity of classical and non-classical monocytes to patrol the glomerular microvasculature and promote acute, neutrophil-dep

Triglyceride-Rich Lipoprotein-Mediated Polymer Dots for Multimodal Imaging Interscapular Brown Adipose Tissue Capillaries.

Brown adipose tissues (BATs) have been identified as a promising target of metabolism disorders. [18F]FDG-PET (FDG = fluorodeoxyglucose; PET = positron emission tomography) has been predominantly employed for BAT imaging, but its limitations drive the urgent need for novel functional probes combined with multimodal imaging approaches. It has been reported that polymer dots (Pdots) display rapid BAT imaging without additional cold stimulation. However, the mechanism by which Pdots image BAT remains unclear. Here, we made an intensive study of the imaging mechanism and found that Pdots can bind
