Samples of human whole blood were exposed in CMF (field induction, 0.3 T) for 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 120, 150, 180, 240, 300 or 360 min. 15 min following exposure, the samples were gamma-irradiated in a dose of 0.0516 C/kg (137Cs) at a dose rate of 1.95 A/kg. The following chromosome aberrations were scored: deletions dicentrics, rings, and symmetrical exchanges. Exposure of the blood in CMF for 15 to 360 min decreased radiation damage to cells as compared with unexposed irradiated samples. Vitamin E and percutaneous irradiation are the most common treatment regimens of Peyronie's disease. This report presents the results of 49 patients irradiated with 137Cs gamma rays. 28 of them had also received Vitamin E. An objective improvement was achieved in 37 patients (75%). Vitamin E did not show any additional benefit. In spite of the fact that these results do not permit an objective evaluation of both treatment regimens, the following advantages of radiotherapy should be considered: a) short treatment time b) low costs c) no serious side effects.

Little attention has been paid to the uptake of 137Cs in natural forests under low levels of the isotope fallout when no immediate ecological danger presents. Here we present the extended assessments of the soil-to-plant and canopy-to-litter flows of 137Cs recently evaluated in a native Siberian forested area. This reaction tolerated α-aryl-, alkenyl-, and alkyl-substituted α-amido sulfones as well as substrates containing either an ester or cyano moiety, which might be reactive with lithium or magnesium stannides employed in conventional stannylation.

The catalysts of iron-doped Mn-Ce/TiO2 (Fe-Mn-Ce/TiO2) prepared by sol-gel method were investigated for low temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3. It was found that the NO conversion over Fe-Mn-Ce/TiO2 was obviously improved after iron doping compared with that over Mn-Ce/TiO2. Fe-Mn-Ce/TiO2 with the molar ratio of Fe/Ti = 0.1 exhibited the highest activity. The results showed that 96.8% NO conversion was obtained over Fe (0.1)-Mn-Ce/TiO2 at 180 degrees C at a space velocity of 50,000 hr(-1). Negatively charged nanocrystals of the magnetic coordination network CsNiCr(CN)(6) were prepared in water through a seed-mediated growth with a few atomic layers accuracy and final sizes tailored from 6 to 30 nm. RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the image quality of composed long-leg examinations with a large-area, flat-panel x-ray detector.
METHODS: Thirty-five consecutive patients were included in this study. All images were obtained with a kilovoltage setting identical with conventional radiographies of speed class 400; amperage values were reduced by 50% compared with standard dose. A survey questionnaire was sent to the 189 French departments of radiation Oncology and 166 responded by brachytherapy and 358 shielded rooms were available. In Low Dose Rate (LDR) 81 departments used Cesium sources (159 afterloaders, 1,060 sources). Iridium wires were used by 84 departments (673 meters used). Only six departments used other elements. The effect of irradiation on the third stage larvae of the filarial nematode Brugia pahangi was investigated. Labelling with 35S methionine of control or irradiated L3, post-infective L3 or L4 revealed no consistent alterations in the pattern of proteins synthesized.
