Predicting transversal dental arch expansion outcomes with Invisalign aligners in permanent dentition: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the predictability of Invisalign in producing transverse dental arch expansion in permanent dentition and to identify clinical and methodological factors influencing expansion accuracy. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and WOS (up to November 2025) identified clinical studies reporting planned and achieved expansion. Predictability was defined as the achieved-to-planned expansion ratio and synthesized as logit-transformed proportions in random-effects meta-analyses. Tooth-group-specific pooled estimates were calculated for each arch. Meta-regressi

An Evaluation of the Relationship between Condylar Guidance, Occlusal Plane Orientation, Cuspal Inclination, and Compensatory Curves in Permanent Dentition.

BACKGROUND: Understanding the relationship between condylar guidance (CG), occlusal plane orientation, cuspal inclination, and compensatory curves in natural dentition is important in orthodontics for ensuring post-treatment stability and managing temporomandibular joint disorders. Therefore, the study's objective is to assess the relationship between the compensatory curve in natural dentition, the inclination of functional cusps and occlusal plane, and CG. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Condylar guidance, occlusal plane and cuspal inclination, and the compensating curve were measured in 56 pretreat

Dental caries in the permanent dentition and health-related quality of life among children and adolescents with sickle cell disease.

The aim was to associate living, health and oral health conditions with the quality of life (QL) of children and adolescents (CA) with sickle cell disease (SCD). Of the 120 eligible users of a public hematological service, 106 CA with SCD from 6 to 18 years of age, and their caregivers, answered semi-structured questions about socio-demographic, health and oral health conditions. For QL, we used the validated instrument PedsQLSCD™. The oral clinical examination occurred according to the guidelines of WHO and SB Brazil 2010. The majority of CA were non-white people (88%), mean age of 10.4 (±2.9

[Treatment of class I malocclusion with severe dento-maxillary dysharmony in the permanent dentition of young black African patients].

Class I malocclusion with severe dental crowding can constitute a serious psychosocial and functional damage among young patients; from where orthodontic importance of the treatment. In the present study the authors present the treatment of two clinical cases whose initial problems are similar. They are two cases of class I malocclusion but whose certain diagnosed clinical factors have constrained in a case to control to the maximum anchoring on the level of the molars and in the other to control the dental axes. The final results are satisfactory because of the restoration of a physiological

Positional changes of the upper canine and posterior teeth, hard palate, and sinus floor from primary to permanent dentition.

This cross-sectional study investigated normal positional changes of the upper permanent canine and posterior teeth, hard palate, and sinus floor in normal Taiwanese children from the deciduous to early permanent dentition. In total, 261 panoramic radiographs were used. During the observation period, almost all structures changed their positions toward the distal and occlusal direction. The vertical positional changes of crowns of all teeth were greater than those of the root apices through all developmental stages. There were small positional changes in the mesial surfaces of the crowns of th

Tongue strength and endurance in relation to oral cavity morphology among children with Down syndrome in the permanent dentition period.

CONTEXT: Down syndrome is a genetic condition caused by trisomy 21, often accompanied by orofacial hypotonia and anomalies in stomatognathic development. A hypotonic tongue may alter oral cavity morphology, particularly palatal depth, anterior dental relationships, and lip competence, thereby affecting mastication, swallowing, and speech. AIMS: To evaluate the association between tongue strength and endurance with oral cavity morphology in children with Down syndrome during the permanent dentition period. SETTINGS AND DESIGN: A cross-sectional analytic study was conducted among children with

A novel deep learning-based model for automated tooth detection and numbering in mixed and permanent dentition in occlusal photographs.

BACKGROUND: While artificial intelligence-driven approaches have shown great promise in dental diagnosis and treatment planning, most research focuses on dental radiographs. Only three studies have explored automated tooth numbering in oral photographs, all focusing on permanent dentition. Our study aimed to introduce an automated system for detection and numbering of teeth across mixed and permanent dentitions in occlusal photographs. METHODS: A total of 3215 occlusal view images of maxilla and mandible were included. Five senior dental students, trained under the guidance of an associate pr

Association of gonial angle with morphology and bone mineral content of the body of the adult human mandible with complete permanent dentition.

We investigated the differences between 2 gonial angle (GA) size groups with respect to the morphometry and quantitative bone mineral content (QBMC) of mandibles with all teeth erupted and normal occlusion. We used 19 dried mandibles that were obtained from an Indian population and stored in our department. These mandibles were at Hellman's developmental dental stage VA and were divided into low gonial angle (LGA) (GA ≤ 120°; 8 specimens; 16 sides) and high gonial angle (HGA) (GA ≥ 125°; 11 specimens; 22 sides) groups. After lateral radiography of the mandibles using a titanium step wedge, lin

[Developmental disorders of the permanent dentition following fractures of the visceral cranium during the growth period. Incidence and morphological findings].

The retrospective examination of 70 patients who had suffered fractures in tooth-bearing segments of the maxilla and the mandible when they were between one and twelve years old revealed a high incidence of late pathologic changes (in 39 out of 70). Disorders in odontogeny, eruption of the teeth and occlusion were observed. Primary and secondary loss of teeth did also occur. Our results show the necessity to inform both the young patients and their parents about the high incidence of late changes after jaw fractures in childhood. An effective recall-system is required in order to diagnose and

Comparison of the Planas Functional Masticatory Angle Across Deciduous, Mixed, and Permanent Dentition Stages: A Cross-Sectional Pilot Study.

Background. The Planas Functional Masticatory Angle [PFMA] is a functional parameter describing mandibular trajectory during mastication. Its variation across dentition stages may reflect cross-sectional physiological functional adaptation during growth. Methods. A cross-sectional pilot study recruited 30 patients [10 per group: deciduous, mixed, permanent dentition] from a university dental clinic. PFMA was measured using a standardized intraoral photographic protocol, with intra-examiner reliability assessed [ICC > 0.9]. Molar relationships were classified per Angle's classification. PFMA di
