PARS PLANA VITRECTOMY AND LENSECTOMY FOR ECTOPIA LENTIS WITH AND WITHOUT THE INDUCTION OF A POSTERIOR VITREOUS DETACHMENT.

PURPOSE: Posterior hyaloid removal during pars plana vitrectomy and lensectomy for ectopia lentis is commonly performed, but may increase the risk of intraoperative retinal breaks and postoperative retinal detachment. This study evaluated outcomes after pars plana vitrectomy and lensectomy with or without posterior hyaloid removal. METHODS: This retrospective observational cohort study included ectopia lentis cases that underwent pars plana vitrectomy and lensectomy (2005-2014), with or without intraoperative induction of a posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). The primary outcome was postoper

Bilateral idiopathic spontaneous filtering bleb with ectopia lentis: A case report and review of literature.

A 26-year-old male presented with superior filtering bleb with scleral thinning, dislocated lens, and hypotony in both the eyes. His cornea was normal without any sign of ectasia, and there was no history of recurrent redness, trauma, or surgery in either eye. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography did not reveal communicating fistula between the anterior chamber and subconjunctival space. Physical examination and blood investigations did not reveal any systemic association. He was diagnosed to have spontaneous filtering bleb, which is a rare condition observed with ocular or systemic a

Lens coloboma in one eye and ectopia lentis in the other eye of a patient with Marfan syndrome.

We present a case of Marfan syndrome with lens coloboma in one eye and ectopia lentis in the other. A 14-year-old girl reported decreased vision in the left eye. Her visual acuity was 6/24 and counting fingers at 1 m in the right and left eyes, respectively. Her intraocular pressure was 15 mm Hg in both eyes. Evaluation of the right eye on slit lamp biomicroscopy under mydriasis revealed an inferiorly visible flattened and concave crystalline lens equator from 4 to 8 o'clock position along with notching and absence of zonules, suggestive of lens coloboma. Left eye examination revealed a superi

Ectopia lentis et pupillae with patchy depigmentation of the skin, hair and lashes: a new association.

We describe a case of a four year-old boy, with congenital ectopia lentis et pupillae, who developed patchy unilateral depigmentation of the skin, hair and lashes. The association between ectopia lentis et pupillae and transillumination of the iris is well documented in the literature, but it has never been reported with skin hypopigmentation.

Clinical and Genetic Landscape of Ectopia Lentis Based on a Cohort of Patients From 156 Families.

PURPOSE: To extend the mutation spectrum and explore the characteristics of genotypes and ocular phenotypes in ectopia lentis (EL). METHODS: Variants in all 14 reported EL-associated genes were selected from in-house data sets as well as literature review, and available clinical data were analyzed. RESULTS: Likely pathogenic variants in three genes were identified in 156 unrelated families with EL from the in-house cohort, of which 97.4% resulted from variants in FBN1, whereas the remaining were caused by variants in ADAMTSL4 (1.3%) and LTBP2 (1.3%). A comparative analysis of the in-house da

[Endocapsular fixation of intraocular lens in patients with ectopia lentis and Marfan syndrome (case study)].

Modern trends in advancement of phaco surgery techniques in patients with ectopia lentis (including patients with Marfan syndrome) are characterized by the transition from complete removal of the lens (lensectomy) to aspiration of the lens substance and attempts to preserve and reposition the capsular bag. This case study analyzes the results of surgical treatment of bilateral ectopia lentis in a 6-year-old patient with Marfan syndrome. The specifics of microinvasive phaco surgery consisted in capsular bag preservation and endocapsular fixation of the intraocular lens. The article presents the

Ectopia lentis surgery in Marfan's syndrome: from "couching" to the use of intracapsular tension rings.

In the course of time, correction of the ectopia lentis in Marfan's syndrome has been approached through quite many surgical techniques. They addressed the iris, or the lens and aimed at increasing the aphakic zone, the opacification or removal of the lens. Although associated to many complications, the first techniques proved the courage and imagination of pioneer surgeons and are worth mentioning. They were steps towards the invention of current techniques and devices that make surgery of ectopia lentis safe, easy, and having a favorable prognosis.

Identification of a novel mutation in FBN1 in a Chinese family with inherited ectopia lentis by targeted NGS.

AIMS: To diagnose a Chinese family with inherited ectopia lentis in a genetic method and analyze the genotype-phenotype correlation. METHODS: The phenotype of each family member was identified by detailed clinical examination. We used targeted next generation sequencing (NGS) to identify mutations in FBN1 in an efficient and accurate way. The mutation in FBN1 was confirmed in all affected family members by Sanger sequencing. RESULTS: A novel mutation c.385T>C (p.C129R) in FBN1 was identified in the proband by targeted NGS. The mutation was segregated in all affected family members and contri
