Hyperparathyroidism is mainly caused by hyperplasia or adenomas of the parathyroid glands. BACKGROUND: Sebaceous gland hyperplasia is a common condition of the face in elderly patients. We report a case of sebaceous gland hyperplasia on the vulva.
CASE: A 19-year-old woman presented with a polypoid tumor on her left labium majus of which the greatest diameter was 2.5 cm, covered by normal appearing skin. Histologic examination revealed a sebaceous gland hyperplasia. Immunohistochemical techniques showed high expression of androgen receptors on sebaceous cells.

Focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) of the liver is an uncommon benign lesion that usually occurs in young or middle-aged women. Although it has been associated with oral contraceptive use, no evidence supports this hypothesis. Most patients with this lesion are asymptomatic. Diffuse, severe, macroscopically recognizable dilatation and hyperplasia of the peribiliary glands of intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile ducts is an extremely rare condition. To our knowledge, this is the first such case reported in the literature. We encountered this condition in a patient with massive hepatic necrosis. The pathogenesis of the condition is discussed. Unfamiliarity with this pathology could lead to an erroneous diagnosis of a well-differentiated cholangiocarcinoma.

The management of focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) of the liver requires a systematic approach. After a histologic diagnosis of FNH is obtained, asymptomatic lesions can be observed safely with regular follow-up and treated if they become symptomatic or enlargement occurs. Twenty-four patients underwent biopsy or resection of the liver for focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center from 1978 to 1988. Twenty-two of the patients were women. Angiolymphoid hyperplasia is a rare benign condition affecting the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the head and neck. Superficial (intradermal) lesions frequently affect the external ear and such a case presenting to an otolaryngologist is described. Clinically the disease is characterized by single or multiple plum-coloured nodules or plaques which are often itchy and may bleed with mild trauma. Forty-three cases of microglandular hyperplasia of the cervix seen during a 3.5-year period are reported. The series is unusual in that more than one-half of the patients had no history of oral contraceptive use and three patients were postmenopausal. Additionally, evidence of estrogenic stimulation was present in eight cases. The role of estrogens and progestogens in the development of microglandular hyperplasia is discussed. The authors consider microglandular hyperplasia to be an unusual and florid form of reserve cell hyperplasia with glandular differentiation.

Focal nodular hyperplasia of the liver (FNH) in a fit young Iranian girl of 19 months presented with asymptomatic hepatomegaly. Liver scan and ultrasound examinations demonstrated a space-occupying lesion involving both hepatic lobes.
