[Treatment of the old terrible triad of the elbow without operative history].

OBJECTIVE: To introduce the surgical techniques and treating results of the old "terrible triad" of the elbow. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 11 cases of old "terrible triad" of the elbow treated by the author from March 2009 to February 2014 were performed, with 9 males and 2 females; mean age was (31.82±8.66) years (17-45 years). The average time after injury was (6.36±2.50) weeks (4-12 weeks), with 7 cases on the left and 4 right. The combined injury included 2 cases with distal radius fractures, 1 with ankle fractures, fractures of the distal radius and the head injury (minor epidur

It's not a Bennett: How to identify chronic reverse Bankart instability on MRI.

PURPOSE: Chronic Reverse Bankart Lesion (CRBL) is a significant issue for athletes, and CRBL's radiographic appearance can mimic a Bennett lesion on radiographs. Delay in diagnosis and treatment can result in long-term sequelae. The hypothesis of this study is that specific features on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exam can enable the radiologist to differentiate these two causes of posterior glenoid calcification. These features are 1) decreased glenoid volume, 2) displacement of the posterior labrum, and 3) posterior displacement of the humeral head. METHODS: A single-institution retrosp…

Covariation between rotator cuff muscle quality and shoulder morphometric bony features in B-glenoids: a statistical modeling approach.

Rotator cuff muscle (RCM) degeneration, bone morphology, and humeral head subluxation (HHS) are known risk factors for failure of anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty in patients with B-glenoid shoulder osteoarthritis. Yet, the understanding of RCM asymmetry in these patients remains an area of active investigation, including its relation with other risk factors. We therefore aimed to characterize the variability of RCM degeneration in B-glenoids and analyze its covariation with scapular morphology and HHS. First, computed tomography images were used to quantify 3D RCM degeneration, including …

Advanced shoulder sling: Integrating versatile features into a triangular bandage.

This study created an orthosis with several functions in addition to the triangular bandage. The triangular bandage positioned the forearm f … la were placed outward to prevent the straps from falling off due to scapular movement. Because the humeral head is rotated 30 degree posteriorly, immobilization in the 30 degree internal rotation position of the shoulder joint improves scapulohumeral joint conformity and achieves rotator cuff equilibrium. Suspension from the ipsilateral shoulder also countera …

Functional Outcomes and Complications Following Greater Tuberosity Resurfacing for Compensated Cuff Arthropathy.

BACKGROUND: Patients with large, irreparable rotator cuff tears may develop a compensated cuff arthropathy (CCA) with persistent shoulder pain from contact between the humeral head and acromion. This study reports shoulder pain relief, functional outcomes, and complications in CCA patients treated with greater tuberosity resurfacing (GTR). METHODS: A retrospective case-series review of patients who underwent GTR between 2014 and 2021 by a single community hospital-based surgeon was conducted. Patients who failed nonoperative treatment underwent diagnostic arthroscopy. If the rotator cuff was …

Clinical outcome of wedged glenoid reconstruction in anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty for osteoarthritic retroverted glenoid: a minimum 2-year follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Glenoid retroversion and humeral head subluxation is a progressive disorder due to abnormal force coupling and increased contact force. In situ placement of anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) components in this scenario results in edge loading, progressive subluxation, and early failure. Wedged glenoid components have been demonstrated to improve glenohumeral alignment, but have not been correlated with mid-term clinical outcomes. METHODS: Patients undergoing TSA using a wedged all-polyethylene glenoid component for retroverted glenoid deformity were identified from a pros…

Medial row suture anchors are placed, and following suture passage through the rotator cuff, the medial row sutures are tied. A novel surgical approach and technique and short-term clinical efficacy for the treatment of proximal humerus fractures with the combined use of medial anatomical locking plate fixation and minimally invasive lateral locking plate fixation.

Successful fracture healing was achieved in all 8 cases. Short-term results after arthroscopic resection of synovial plicae in the radiohumeral joint: a case series of 64 procedures.

INTRODUCTION: Painful Synovial Plicae (SP) in the posterolateral corner of the radiohumeral joint may be confused with lateral epicondylitis. The SP may impinge between the radial head and the humeral capitellum causing pain and snapping. The aim of this study was to evaluate the short-term results after arthroscopic plica resection of the elbow. METHODS: In this case series, we included a consecutive series of 64 arthroscopies (60 patients) with arthroscopic plica resection of the elbow. Inclusion criteria were six months of lateral elbow pain and unsuccessful conservative treatment. Patient

Acute shoulder injuries in adults are often initially managed by family physicians. Common acute shoulder injuries include acromioclavicular … ave pain with motion and decreased motion at the shoulder. Long-term outcome of tuberoplasty for irreparable massive rotator cuff tears: is tuberoplasty really applicable?

BACKGROUND: Tuberoplasty is a therapeutic option for irreparable massive rotator cuff tear (RCT). However, no study has reported long-term o … ded satisfactory outcomes during a mean 8-year follow-up period. Although superior migration of the humeral head progressed with time, the clinical outcomes were not affected. Arthroscopic tuberoplasty is a good option for relieving pain and improving functionality in nonpseudoparalytic patients with painful irreparable massive RCT.

The influence of superior labrum anterior to posterior (SLAP) repair on restoring baseline glenohumeral translation and increased biceps loading after simulated SLAP tear and the effectiveness of SLAP repair after long head of biceps tenotomy.

HYPOTHESIS: Biomechanical studies have shown increased glenohumeral translation and loading of the long head biceps (LHB) tendon after superior labrum anterior to posterior (SLAP) tears. This may explain some of the typical clinical findings, including the prevalence of humeral chondral lesions, after SLAP lesions. The first hypothesis was that SLAP repair could restore the original glenohumeral translation and reduce the increased LHB load after SLAP lesions. The second hypothesis was that SLAP repair after LHB tenotomy could significantly reduce the increased glenohumeral translation. MATER
