Validation of a real-time biliopancreatic endoscopic ultrasonography analytical device in China: a prospective, single-centre, randomised, controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is a key procedure for the diagnosis of biliopancreatic diseases. However, the performance among EUS endoscopists varies greatly and leads to blind spots during the operation, which can impair the health outcomes of patients. We previously developed an artificial intelligence (AI) device that accurately identified EUS standard stations and significantly reduced the difficulty of ultrasonography image interpretation. In this study, we updated the device (named EUS-IREAD) and validated its performance in improving the quality of EUS procedures. METHO

Applicability of body surface potential map in computerized optimization of biventricular pacing.

Biventricular pacing (BVP) could be improved by identifying the patient-specific optimal electrode positions. Body surface potential map (BSPM) is a non-invasive technique for obtaining the electrophysiology and pathology of a patient. The study proposes the use of BSPM as input for an automated non-invasive strategy based on a personalized computer model of the heart, to identify the patient pathology and specific optimal treatment with BVP devices. The anatomy of a patient suffering from left bundle branch block and myocardial infarction is extracted from a series of MR data sets. The clinic

The degrees to which transtrochanteric rotational osteotomy moves the region of osteonecrotic femoral head out of the weight-bearing area as evaluated by computer simulation.

BACKGROUND: Transtrochanteric rotational osteotomy is a technical demanding procedure. Currently, the pre-operative planning of the transtrochanteric rotational osteotomy is mostly based on X-ray images. The surgeons would need to reconstruct the three-dimensional structure of the femoral head and the necrosis in their mind. This study develops a simulation platform using computer models based on the computed tomography images of the femoral head to evaluate the degree to which transtrochanteric rotational osteotomy moves the region of osteonecrotic femoral head out of the weight-bearing area

Optimization of Posterior Fossa Image Quality Using Virtual Monoenergetic Reconstructions from Dual-Layer Spectral CT.

Background/Objectives: Beam-hardening artifacts from the skull base reduce image quality in routine non-contrast head CT, particularly in the posterior fossa. Virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) reconstructed from dual-layer spectral CT have been shown to reduce these artifacts, but previous studies have generally been limited by small cohorts or evaluation of only a limited range of monoenergetic reconstructions. The aim of this study was to comprehensively evaluate image quality and posterior fossa artifact reduction across the monoenergetic spectrum in a large cohort of normal head CT exami

Variability of bronchial measurements obtained by sequential CT using two computer-based methods.

This study aimed to evaluate the variability of lumen (LA) and wall area (WA) measurements obtained on two successive MDCT acquisitions using energy-driven contour estimation (EDCE) and full width at half maximum (FWHM) approaches. Both methods were applied to a database of segmental and subsegmental bronchi with LA > 4 mm(2) containing 42 bronchial segments of 10 successive slices that best matched on each acquisition. For both methods, the 95% confidence interval between repeated MDCT was between -1.59 and 1.5 mm(2) for LA, and -3.31 and 2.96 mm(2) for WA. The values of the coefficient of me

Fast B-flow imaging: a method for improving frame rate in Golay coded B-flow imaging.

A technique for Golay coded B-flow imaging, called fast B-flow imaging, has been developed. This technique improves the frame rate of Golay coded B-flow imaging. In this technique, three instead of four input pulses are used to produce each scan line. A standard Golay pulse-pair is used as two of the three inputs, and pulse compression is performed upon receive returning the echoes from stationary (tissue) objects in the image. The third input is a repetition of one of the first two inputs. Upon receive, this pulse is cross correlated with an inverted copy of its input pulse. Addition of the c

Contrast-enhanced 64-slice computed tomography in detection and evaluation of anomalous coronary arteries.

Anomalous coronary artery (ACA) has either an unusual origin or different anatomical course and is associated with sudden cardiac death. The absence or nonspecific symptoms of ACA make its diagnosis difficult. Mostly, ACA is diagnosed coincidentally during invasive coronary angiogram (ICA). A conventional computed tomography (CT) cannot provide detailed images of coronary arteries of the moving heart, but 64-slice CT, with its short acquisition time, can provide detailed anatomy of coronary arteries non-invasively. In this study, we assessed the validity of contrast-enhanced 64-slice CT in the

Devising a novel evaluation method for computed tomography images containing metal artifacts from titanium seed implants: Application to virtual monochromatic imaging energy optimization.

INTRODUCTION: Metal artifact reduction (MAR) technology cannot fully eliminate metal artifacts from metallic devices in computed tomography (CT) images. Hence, it is important to investigate the optimal acquisition parameters and post-processing techniques. This study aimed to devise a novel evaluation method for images containing metal artifacts from titanium seed implants and identify the optimal energy level for virtual monochromatic imaging (VMI) to reduce metal artifacts and enhance signal detectability. METHODS: Post-brachytherapy CT scans are a clinical example of the effects of metal

Automated high-fidelity 3D reconstruction of middle-ear ossicles from low-resolution clinical CT using a deep learning pipeline.

This study validates an automated deep learning framework for generating high-fidelity 3D models of the middle-ear ossicles from low-resolution clinical CT images. The framework employs a sequential three-stage pipeline: (1) accurate Region of Interest (ROI) detection using YOLOv5x, (2) 4x super-resolution of the ROI with a Deep Back-Projection Network (DBPN), and (3) slice interpolation using a 2.5D U-Net to create a dense volumetric dataset. To ensure robust reconstruction from incomplete data, the interpolation stage integrates a "hint channel" that leverages anatomical priors. The framewor

Deep learning for discrimination of active and inactive lesions in multiple sclerosis using non-contrast FLAIR MRI: A multicenter study.

BACKGROUND: Within the domain of multiple sclerosis (MS), the precise discrimination between active and inactive lesions bears immense significance. Active lesions are enhanced on T1-weighted MRI images after administration of gadolinium-based contrast agents, which brings about associated complexities. This study investigates the potential of deep learning to differentiate between active and inactive lesions in MS using non-contrast FLAIR-type MRI data, presenting a non-invasive alternative to conventional gadolinium-based MRI methods. METHODS: The dataset encompasses 9097 lesion images coll
