Reverse shoulder arthroplasty in proximal humerus fractures: What is the optimal neck-shaft-angle?

PURPOSE: Limited evidence exists for functional outcomes of neck-shaft-angle (NSA) in reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) for proximal humerus fractures (PHFs). We evaluated the functional outcomes of 155° versus 145° NSA RSA, to determine superiority for acute PHFs. METHOD: Retrospective analysis of 66-patients with displaced 3/4-part, head-split or fracture-dislocation PHFs, managed with acute RSA, within 4-weeks of injury at single trauma unit. 33-patients underwent 155° NSA RSA cemented stem; 33-patients 145° NSA RSA uncemented stem. All had same glenoid components with equivocal humeral s

Biceps Tenodesis/Tenotomy Disrupts Biomechanical Glenohumeral Stability in the Setting of Superior Labrum Anteroposterior Tear and Repair.

PURPOSE: To compare the biomechanical stability of the glenohumeral joint both before and after a SLAP tear to: (1) posterior SLAP repair, (2) posterior plus anterior SLAP repair, (3) biceps tenodesis with SLAP repair, and (4) biceps tenodesis without SLAP repair. METHODS: Eight cadaveric shoulders were tested using a custom testing system. Twenty-two-Newton glenohumeral compressive force and 5-N biceps load was applied. All testing was performed in 30° and 60° of glenohumeral abduction. Humeral rotational range of motion was measured with 2.2 Nm torque. Glenohumeral anteroposterior (AP) and

Complications in Osteonecrosis Patients After Shoulder Arthroplasty: A Propensity-Matched Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) is an effective treatment for advanced osteonecrosis (ON) of the humeral head, a condition involving vascular disruption and bone necrosis. However, systemic comorbidities in ON patients may impact postoperative outcomes. PURPOSES: We sought to evaluate health care utilization, systemic complications, and implant-related outcomes in TSA patients with and without ON. METHODS: Using the TriNetX research database, we identified patients who underwent TSA between December 9, 2002, and December 9, 2022. Two cohorts were created: The TSA + ON cohort in…

Fixation technique of biodegradable magnesium alloy suture anchor in the rotator cuff repair of the shoulder in a goat model: a technical note.

BACKGROUND: Shoulder disorders, particularly rotator cuff tears, are prevalent musculoskeletal conditions related to aging. Although the wid … es showed intact MgF2 ZK60 suture anchors, effectively reconnecting the infraspinatus tendon to the humeral head. The anchors became less visible on CT scans, indicating absorption by surrounding tissues. New bone formation in the MgF2 group surpassed that in the Ti group, demonstrating superior osseointegration. The similarity between cortical bone and magnes …

Higher return to sport and lower revision rates when performing arthroscopic Bankart repair with remplissage for anterior shoulder instability with a Hill-Sachs lesion: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent anterior shoulder instability remains the most common complication from a prior shoulder dislocation, especially among young and active individuals who engage in athletic activities. This instability can lead to repeated subluxation or dislocations of the humeral head from the glenoid fossa. The purpose of this study is to compare postoperative recurrence rates, instability-related revision and return to sport (RTS) rates between isolated arthroscopic Bankart repair (ABR) and ABR with remplissage (ABR + R) for anterior shoulder instability with subcritical glenoid bone lo…

A new species of Fusigobius (Teleostei: Gobiidae) from the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

The gobiid species, Fusigobius humerosus sp. nov., is described based on 12 type and 18 non-type specimens collected from the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The new species can be distinguished from congeners by a combination of meristic and morphometric characters. The new species was formerly misidentified with F. humeralis: both are characterised by a semitranslucent body; head and body with numerous small dusky orange-yellow spots; a round black spot in humeral region just above base of pectoral fin; and a black spot subequal to pupil diameter at midbase of the caudal fin. However, Fusigobius h

Recurrences occur especially in young male patients participating in contact sport activities. This is the group where "bony" procedures such as arthroscopic Latarjet are recommended to provide better stability as the primary treatment. Reduction of scapulohumeral subluxation with posterior augmented glenoid implants in anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty: Short-term 3D comparison between pre- and post-operative CT.

BACKGROUND: Failure rates in anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA) are higher in case of asymmetric glenoid bone loss secondary to posterior wear, and in persistent static posterior subluxation of the humeral head (PSH). HYPOTHESIS: This study aimed to test the hypothesis that the combined use of posterior augmented glenoid (PAG) implants with three-dimensional (3D) surgical planning and patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) guides helps reduce short-term PSH after aTSA in patients with type B2-B3 glenoids. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We included nine consecutive patients with primary gleno…

Charcot shoulder caused by Chiari type I malformation with syringomyelia with six-year follow-up.

We are presenting a case report of neuropathic arthropathy of the shoulder secondary to a syringomyelia and Chiari type I malformation, with detailed clinical and radiological findings. Neuropathic joints were first described in 1868 by Charcot, and subsequently were described in many types of peripheral diseases and central neuron diseases. There are many causes of syringomyelia, and one of the causes of this disease is a Chiari type I malformation. Subsequently, shoulders and elbows are most commonly affected by syringomyelia-induced neuropathy. Our patient was observed for six years after b

Diagnosis and treatment of osteochondritis dissecans of the humeral capitellum.

Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the humeral capitellum is a critical elbow injury in adolescent overhead throwing athletes. However, its etiology remains unknown. Medical examinations using ultrasonography found that the prevalence of capitellar OCD among adolescent baseball players was approximately from 1% to 3%. A plain anteroposterior radiograph with the elbow in 45° of flexion is essential for the diagnosis of an OCD lesion. The stability of OCD lesions is evaluated on plain radiographs, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Imaging features of the unstable lesions
