Efficacy and safety of probiotics in preventing chemotherapy-related diarrhea in patients with colorectal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis based on 18 randomized trials.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy, as one of the main treatments for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), brings clinical benefits with varying degrees of gastrointestinal reactions. Post-chemotherapy diarrhea is one of the factors affecting the quality of life of cancer patients. In severe cases, it can cause interruption of the chemotherapy process and even be life-threatening. Probiotics' role in preventing post chemotherapy diarrhea in CRC patients has not been proven. METHODS: This meta-analysis was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023480526). A comprehensive search using subject terms and keywor

Efficacy and safety of rifaximin in preventing hepatic encephalopathy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Rifaximin (RFX) is recommended for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy (HE). However, evidence on whether RFX application could yield additional benefits for preventing HE in patients with cirrhosis is limited. In this study, we aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of RFX in preventing HE. We conducted a systematic search of randomized controlled trials to evaluate the use of RFX by analyzing HE incidence, hospitalization, all-cause mortality, and adverse events. Compared with the control group, RFX had a beneficial effect on the primary prevention of HE (RR = 0.58, 95% CI: 0.50-0.68),

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues for premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

BACKGROUND: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a psychological and somatic disorder affecting 20% to 30% of women of reproductive age. PMS results from ovulation: symptoms recur during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle and remit by the end of menstruation. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of PMS experienced by three to eight per cent of menstruating women. In this review, we use the term PMS to cover all core premenstrual disorders, including PMDD. The symptoms of all types are severe enough to affect daily functioning, interfering with work, school performance or inte

Quality-of-life endpoints collection, reporting, and framing in randomised trials of indolent lymphomas: a systematic review.

Indolent lymphomas are generally incurable, with protracted disease courses. The approval of drug treatment options often relies on surrogate endpoints (eg, progression-free survival), which do not capture patient-centred outcomes such as quality of life (QOL). This systematic review characterises the use of QOL as an endpoint in randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of indolent lymphomas, and the association of QOL with survival outcomes. ClinicalTrials.gov was searched from database inception to May 20, 2024, for phase 3 RCTs of indolent lymphomas, including follicular lymphoma, marginal zone
