INTRODUCTION: The leading cause of preventable traumatic death is hemorrhage. Early detection of hemorrhagic shock remains a critical challenge. For the early prediction of hemorrhagic shock-related cardiovascular decompensation, our team has developed the compensatory reserve measurement (CRM) algorithm. CRM uses a photoplethysmography waveform to quantify the body's capacity to compensate during hypovolemia. BACKGROUND: The interactions of polytrauma, shock, and traumatic brain injury (TBI) on thromboinflammatory responses remain unclear and warrant investigation as we strive towards personalized medicine in trauma. We reviewed 66 cases of traumatic rib fracture by traffic accident between January 2009 and December 2011. The age of patients ranged from 18 to 88 years, with an average age of 55.6, and they were predominantly male.
