The term Erythema Multiforme (EM) include actually a wide range of clinical expressions, from exclusive oral erosions (Oral EM) to mucocutaneous lesions (EM Minor), sometimes with severe involvement of multiple mucosal membrane (EM major, Stevens-Johnson syndrome [SJS]) or with involvement of a large area of the total body surface (toxic epidermal necrolysis [TEN]). A young man had large, concentric plaques over the back and extensors of forearms for eight weeks. Past history suggested recurrent herpes labialis. Serum anti HSV-1 IgG titre was raised to 32 micrograms/l and histopathology of an active lesion suggested erythema multiforme. Symptomatic treatment and oral zinc therapy subsided EM lesions but concentric depigmentation developed after healing.

Infectious mononucleosis is rarely associated with skin lesions. A 23-year-old woman with acute infectious mononucleosis who presented with moderately severe erythema multiforme is reported. The role of steroids in the management of this condition is briefly discussed.

We compared the number of mast cells in erythema multiforme lesions, in clinically healthy mucosa between the EM attacks and in healthy mucosa from healthy volunteers. The mast cell count in patients with erythema multiforme was numerically higher than in healthy controls, but the differences were not statistically significant. In erythema multiforme lesions the mast cell count was low in the intensely inflamed superficial lamina propria, but high in normal appearing mucosa between the attacks suggesting local mast cell degranulation in the most intensely inflamed areas.

Two cases of tuberculoid leprosy who developed erythema multiforme bullosum (EMB) due to Dapsone (DDS) is reported. Burning and itching sensations were found to be the prominent prodromal symptoms. The patients gave history of urticaria and bronchial asthma. Salient clinical features and further management of the cases by desensitization with slow induction to DDS under cover of steroids and antihistamines have been discussed.

In 1967, Kawasaki reported an acute, febrile, mucocutaneous condition accompanied by swelling of cervical lymph nodes that affected infants and young children in Japan. He called it mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome. We report here a case of Kawasaki's disease with characteristic findings that demonstrated a typical erythema multiforme rash. With the increased number of reported cases of Kawasaki's disease in the United States, it becomes increasingly important to differentiate the exanthem of Kawasaki's disease from early erythema multiforme.

A patient with erythema multiforme developed many nevocytic nevi, including a large cluster of such lesions at the sites of healed blisters. The development of eruptive nevocytic nevi in this pattern suggests that cutaneous injury plays a role in their pathogenesis.
