Evaluation Technology of Pore Mobilization Lower Limit in Low-Permeability Reservoirs Based on Multiscale Information Fusion.

In response to the challenges of complex pore structures and low recovery rates in shale oil reservoirs of an offshore oilfield, this study investigates the evaluation technology for the lower limit of pore mobilization based on multiscale information fusion. Dynamic imbibition physical simulation experiments were conducted on core samples, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology was employed to obtain T2 spectra at various imbibition stages, enabling the analysis of fluid distribution within the pores. Pore throat structures were characterized using high-pressure mercury intrusion (HP

Feasibility and limitations of using commercial databases to evaluate residential mobility in registry-based research on childhood cancer.

BACKGROUND: Researchers have used commercial databases containing residential addresses to reduce exposure misclassification in case-control studies. Our objective is to evaluate the potential systematic bias regarding case status when reconstructing residential locations from commercial databases. METHODS: Our study population of 3640 Colorado-born children includes 520 children diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia between 2002 and 2019. We aligned addresses and date ranges obtained from LexisNexis with registry dates to determine three dichotomous outcomes: Found in LexisNexis, concept

First-Pass Success of Intubations Using Video Versus Direct Laryngoscopy in Children With Limited Neck Mobility.

OBJECTIVE: It is not clear whether video laryngoscopy (VL) is associated with a higher first-pass success rate in pediatric patients with limited neck mobility when compared with direct laryngoscopy (DL). We sought to determine the association between the laryngoscopy method and first-pass success. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, we examined intubation data extracted from 2 prospectively collected, multicenter, airway management safety databases (National Emergency Airway Registry and the National Emergency Airway Registry for children), obtained during the years 2013-2018 in the

Non-emergent Conditions of the Ankle, Hindfoot, and Midfoot in Elderly Patients Are as Mobility Limiting as Congestive Heart Failure.

BACKGROUND: Mobility limitations are well linked to increased morbidity and mortality. Older patients with chronic pathologies of the foot and ankle can suffer from significant mobility limitations; however, the magnitude of limitation experienced by this cohort is not well characterized. Conversely, the effects of congestive heart failure (CHF) on patient mobility are routinely assessed via the New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification. New York Heart Association classification is determined by a patient's physical activity limitation and is strongly correlated to functional status. We…

Isokinetic arm and shoulder muscle torque-velocity characteristics in mobility limited children and adolescents with spina bifida.

INTRODUCTION: Propulsive wheelchair capacity may be influenced by arm muscle performance. Objectives: To determine whether children and adolescent wheelchair-users with spina bifida show reduced arm muscle strength compared to their typically developing peers and to compare muscle strength data obtained by isokinetic and handheld dynamometry (HHD). METHODS: Participants (mean age 12.5 ± 2.5 years) were assigned to spina bifida (SB; n = 11) or control (n = 22) groups. Isokinetic dynamometry was used to measure peak torque (PT) during dynamic (60°s-1 and 120°s-1) and isometric strength testing (

Threshold of Relative Muscle Power Required to Rise from a Chair and Mobility Limitations and Disability in Older Adults.

PURPOSE: Being able to rise from a chair is paramount for independent living and is strongly influenced by the ability of the lower limbs to exert mechanical power. This study assessed minimal thresholds of lower-limb relative muscle power required to perform the sit-to-stand (STS) task in older adults and its association with mobility limitations and disability. METHODS: A total of 11,583 older adults (age, 60-103 yr) participated in this investigation. The 5-rep and 30-s versions of the STS test were used to assess chair rising ability. Relative power was calculated by the STS muscle power …

Use of Accessible Weight Scales and Examination Tables/Chairs for Patients with Significant Mobility Limitations by Physicians Nationwide.

BACKGROUND: Mobility limitations are the most common disability type among the 61 million Americans with disability. Studies of patients with mobility limitations suggest that inaccessible medical diagnostic equipment poses significant barriers to care. METHODS: The study team surveyed randomly selected US physicians nationwide representing seven specialties about their reported use of accessible weight scales and exam tables/chairs when caring for patients with mobility limitations. A descriptive analysis of responses was performed, and multivariable logistic regression was used to examine a…

Complexation by cysteine and iron mineral adsorption limit cadmium mobility during metabolic activity of Geobacter sulfurreducens.

Cadmium (Cd) adversely affects human health by entering the food chain via anthropogenic activity. In order to mitigate risk, a better understanding of the biogeochemical mechanisms limiting Cd mobility in the environment is needed. While Cd is not redox-active, Cd speciation varies (i.e., aqueous, complexed, adsorbed), and influences mobility. Here, the cycling of Cd in relation to initial speciation during the growth of Geobacter sulfurreducens was studied. Either fumarate or ferrihydrite (Fh) was provided as an electron acceptor and Cd was present as: (1) an aqueous cation, (2) an aqueous c

High-Resolution Differential Ion Mobility Separations/Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry without Buffer Gas Limitations.

Strong orthogonality between differential ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS) and mass spectrometry (MS) makes their hybrid a powerful approach to separate isomers and isobars. Harnessing that power depends on high resolution in both dimensions. The ultimate mass resolution and accuracy are delivered by Fourier Transform MS increasingly realized in Orbitrap MS, whereas FAIMS resolution is generally maximized by buffers rich in He or H2 that elevate ion mobility and lead to prominent non-Blanc effects. However, turbomolecular pumps have lower efficiency for light gas molecules and their flow from

Awareness of limited joint mobility in type 2 diabetes in general practice in the Netherlands: an online questionnaire survey.

BACKGROUND: Next to the well-known micro- and macrovascular complications, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with musculoskeletal disorders of the upper extremities referred to as limited joint mobility (LJM), e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and adhesive capsulitis. Unrecognized and untreated LJM can lead to poor quality of life and non-compliance to diabetes treatment which aggravates LJM. Despite its reported higher prevalence in international prevalence studies, examination of the upper extremities is still no part of the regular diabetes mellitus (DM) check-ups. The primary a

The Evaluation of Vertical Pole Configuration and Location on Assisting the Sit-to-Stand Movement in Older Adults with Mobility Limitations.

Grab-bars and transfer poles are common sit-to-stand aids for mobility limited older adults. This study investigated differences in kinetics and kinematics to characterize the lower-limb strength and dynamic balance requirements across different pole configurations and positions in nine mobility limited older adults. Poles were varied by location (near and far) and configuration (single vertical pole, double vertical poles, vertical pole with a horizontal bar). Results indicated that the far pole condition resulted in increased trunk (p < 0.001) and hip flexion (p < 0.01 and < 0.0001 for contr
