Mutations in the beta propeller WDR72 cause autosomal-recessive hypomaturation amelogenesis imperfecta.

Healthy dental enamel is the hardest and most highly mineralized human tissue. Though acellular, nonvital, and without capacity for turnover or repair, it can nevertheless last a lifetime. Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a collective term for failure of normal enamel development, covering diverse clinical phenotypes that typically show Mendelian inheritance patterns. One subset, known as hypomaturation AI, is characterised by near-normal volumes of organic enamel matrix but with weak, creamy-brown opaque enamel that fails prematurely after tooth eruption. Mutations in genes critical to enamel

In-vitro comparison of fracture resistance and failure patterns of endocrowns versus post-and-core restorations in maxillary central incisors with and without ferrule.

BACKGROUND: Restoring endodontically treated maxillary central incisors is a clinical challenge influenced by the choice of restoration technique. The amount of remaining ferrule also plays a critical role in the tooth’s structural integrity and long-term success. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the fracture resistance and failure patterns of maxillary central incisors restored with different restoration types and preparation designs. METHODS: In this in vitro study, 40 extracted human maxillary central incisors were randomly divided into four groups (n = 10), based on restoration typ

Short fiber-reinforced composite versus fiber posts in endodontically treated premolars with MOD cavities: effect of intracanal extension depth.

BACKGROUND: The restoration of endodontically treated premolars with extensive coronal destruction requires a balance between biomechanical reinforcement and preservation of remaining dentin. Short fiber-reinforced composites (SFRCs) have been proposed as minimally invasive alternatives to conventional fiber post systems, but the optimal intracanal extension depth of flowable SFRC remains unclear. This study evaluated the effect of two intraradicular extension depths of flowable SFRC on the fracture resistance and failure patterns of endodontically treated premolars with mesio-occluso-distal (

Detection of vertical root fracture using cone beam computed tomography: report of two cases.

Vertical root fractures (VRFs) often occur in endodontically treated teeth and in patients older than 40 years of age. However, VRFs in teeth without endodontic treatment are relatively uncommon. VRFs are difficult to diagnose as the symptoms are non-specific or often delayed. The most common radiographic findings are thickening of the periodontal ligament, deep, localized, vertical bone loss, and localized periradicular bone loss. The explicit feature for detecting VRFs is direct visualization of a radiolucent fracture line on radiographs. However, the fracture line can be difficult to direct

Conservative aesthetic techniques for discoloured teeth: 1. The use of bleaching.

UNLABELLED: There is an increasing move towards more minimally invasive techniques in restorative dentistry. This series of two articles discusses conservative techniques for the treatment of discoloured teeth. A step-wise approach to treatment is promoted to encourage the most conservative solution to achieve satisfactory aesthetics. The first of these two articles will describe the use of bleaching, whilst part two will go on to describe microabrasion and the use of direct composite resin. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Discoloured teeth are a common dental problem. Bleaching provides a simple conserv

Restoration of discolored endodontically treated anterior teeth: a minimally invasive chemomechanical approach.

In the case of discolored devitalized anterior teeth, several treatments are available to enhance the esthetic outcome, from noninvasive external/internal bleaching to freehand resin composites and more complex prosthetic solutions such as veneers or full crowns. Innovative computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) chairside technologies and the introduction of new industrially polymerized composite resin blocks coupled with modern adhesive strategies have reduced both biological and financial costs compared to the classic post-core-crown approach. The aim of this article is
