Sex-specific aspects in a population of patients undergoing evaluation for interstitial lung disease with transbronchial cryobiopsy.

There are well-documented differences in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) between sexes. The sex-specific prevalence of interstitial lung disease (ILD) subtypes in patients who require a full diagnostic work-up, including transbronchial cryobiopsy (TCB), after initial multidisciplinary discussion (MDD) is still unknown. Retrospective analysis of sex dispareties in patients with ILD who received an interdisciplinary indication for lung biopsy and underwent bronchoalveolar lavage, TCB and, if necessary, surgical lung biopsy at our ILD centre in Heidelberg between 11/17 and 12/21. The analysis

Inflammatory and Myocardial Biomarker Response Following Pulmonary Vein Isolation: Cryoballoon Versus Balloon-in-Basket Pulsed Field Ablation.

BACKGROUND: Cryoballoon ablation (CB) is a well-established thermal technique for pulmonary vein isolation (PVI), while balloon-in-basket pulsed field ablation (BiB-PFA) represents a novel non-thermal alternative. Both single-shot systems may trigger systemic inflammation and myocardial injury, yet direct comparisons are lacking. This study aimed to compare inflammatory and myocardial biomarker responses following first-time PVI using CB or BiB-PFA. METHODS: In this prospective, single-center study, 100 patients undergoing PVI for symptomatic paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation (AF)

Rapid thawing enhances tissue destruction in a mouse model of cutaneous cryoablation: Insights into oxidative stress and neutrophil activation.

BACKGROUND: Cryoablation is an integral therapeutic approach in dermatology for eliminating viral warts and benign tumors by damaging tissue through freeze-thaw cycles. Rapid thawing of the frozen area by warming it with fingertips during cryoablation is a common technique in Japan; however, its efficacy has not been elucidated. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of rapid thawing on cryoablation-treated skin and clarify the underlying mechanisms using cryoablation model mice. METHODS: Cryoablation was performed on the dorsal skin of mice using a liquid nitrogen-soaked cotton

Comparison of tumor cell numbers and 22C3 PD-L1 expression between cryobiopsy and transbronchial biopsy with endobronchial ultrasonography-guide sheath for lung cancer.

BACKGROUND: We previously reported cryobiopsy (Cryo) with endobronchial ultrasonography-guide sheath (EBUS-GS) for peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs) provides significantly larger tissues than transbronchial biopsy (TBB) and provides high quantity and quality DNA for gene analysis by next generation sequencing. However, the tumor cell yields and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression between each approach have not been compared. Here, we assessed the tumor cell numbers and PD-L1 expression for Cryo with EBUS-GS for PPLs and TBB in patients with lung cancer. METHODS: Sixteen patients we

Recognition and management of dermatologic complications from interventional radiology procedures.

A variety of dermatologic complications can occur after interventional radiology procedures, including fluoroscopy-induced radiation dermatitis, thermal skin injury from tumor ablation, non-target embolization to the skin, allergic reactions related to interventional radiology procedures, and dermatitis and infections at catheter sites. Yet, interventional radiologists typically lack training in dermatology. This review focuses on recognition of dermatologic complications and introduces basic principles for management of these complications. By taking a more active role in the diagnosis, manag

ReferencesEfficiency and safety of renal denervation via cryoablation (Cryo-RDN) in Chinese patients with uncontrolled hypertension: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Clinical data show that due to the limited effects of lifestyle regulation and unsatisfactory drug adherence, only half of the hypertensive population have their blood pressure (BP) under control. In recent years, catheter-based renal denervation (RDN) has been used as a novel approach for treating uncontrolled hypertension. The safety and efficacy of catheter-based RDN have been confirmed by a number of studies and trials in which the participants were all non-Chinese and RDN was conducted via radiofrequency or ultrasound. METHODS/DESIGN: This study is a prospective multicenter r

Is the time between first diagnosis of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and cryoballoon ablation a predictor of efficacy?

AIMS: Cryoablation is an indicated therapy for the treatment of recurrent atrial fibrillation through pulmonary vein isolation; however, the optimal time between first diagnosis of atrial fibrillation and cryoablation is still unknown. We aimed to assess the clinical efficacy and safety of early versus later treatment of patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation by cryoablation. METHODS: Five hundred and ten patients underwent atrial fibrillation cryoablation and were prospectively followed for at least 6 months in 43 Italian cardiology centers. The population was divided into two groups a

Bridge to success: A better method of cryoablation for atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia in children.

BACKGROUND: Cryoablation for atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) is associated with higher recurrence rates than radiofrequency ablation (RFA). Junctional tachycardia marks procedural success with RFA, but no such indicator exists for cryoablation. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study as to determine the impact of voltage mapping plus longer ablation lesions on midterm success of cryoablation for children with AVNRT. METHODS: We performed a single-center retrospective analysis of pediatric patients with AVNRT who underwent cryoablation from 2011 to 2015. Patients ablated usi
