Atypical Bilateral Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

INTRODUCTION: Proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD) is a rare congenital skeletal abnormality with an incidence of 1 per 100,000 births. It is typically a unilateral abnormality but can present bilaterally in 15% of PFFD cases. It is characterized by the absence of the proximal femur and shortening of the affected limb henceforth. It is associated with other skeletal anomalies, and its radiographic appearance continues to progress with age. Treatment options vary widely from conservative approaches to surgical correction and stabilization. This report presents a case description and a revie

Both Medialization and Anteromedialization Tibial Tubercle Osteotomies are Effective Surgical Management for Skeletally Mature Patients with Patellofemoral Instability when Combined with Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction.

The study aimed to compare the midterm outcomes of medialization and anteromedialization tibial tubercle osteotomies when used in the management of recurrent patellofemoral instability. The hypothesis is that both techniques would result in significant improvement for patellofemoral instability, but anteromedialization would result in a lower incidence of early osteoarthritis. In the cohort study, all skeletally mature patients aged 18 years old or younger who underwent tibial tubercle osteotomy for recurrent patellofemoral instability within a 10-year period in a single institution were inclu

Expanding the clinical phenotype of RASopathies in 38 Turkish patients, including the rare LZTR1, RAF1, RIT1 variants, and large deletion in NF1.

RASopathies are a group of disorders caused by pathogenic variants in the genes encoding Ras/mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway and sh … state in a patient with pulmonary stenosis and normal intelligence. We described pyloric stenosis, knee dislocation, and cleft palate in patients with SOS1, RIT1, and RAF1 variants, respectively, that was not previously reported. We detected a PTPN11 variant in three patients from same family with NS with multiple lentigines. BRAF and MAP2K2 variants were found i …

Does new instrument for Oxford unicompartmental knee arthroplasty improve short-term clinical outcome and component alignment? A meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The Microplasty (MP) instrumentation designed for the Phase III Oxford mobile-bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) system is considered a better option to achieve more accurate component positioning and alignment. In the present study, we focused on short-term clinical and radiological outcomes to determine whether the MP instrumentation can reduce the short-term revision rate and occurrence of outliers of metallic components. METHODS: The literature in PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science was searched up to May 2020. Studies were scrutinized by two

Total hip arthroplasty for Protrusio Acetabuli in a young adult Osteogenesis Imperfecta features and Marfanoid features: A case report.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta is an inherited disease characterized by easily-broken bones, which manifests as multiple fractures with minimal trauma, joint laxity, sclerosis, blue sclera, and several other manifestations. Protrusio acetabuli is defined as the displacement of the femoral head so that it lies medial to the ischioilial line. In a skeletally mature patient with both Marfan syndrome and PA, an eventual hip arthroplasty is the only method available for correction of the deformity. However, in patients with Osteogenesis Imperfecta and PA, THA remains a controversial treatment. A 14-year-o

Modified adductor sling technique: A surgical therapy for patellar instability in skeletally immature patients.

BACKGROUND: Due to open femoral physis the therapy of patellar instability in skeletally immature patients is challenging. We developed a modified surgical technique of the 'Adductor-Sling-Approach' by Sillanpää. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of the operative technique and to analyse the reasons for failure. METHODS: Thirty 'modified adductor sling' reconstructions in 28 patients were included in the study. From 2010 to 2016 modified adductor sling reconstruction was performed by looping the gracilis or semitendinosus tendon around the adductor magnus tendon a

Conservative management of isolated medial subtalar joint dislocations in volleyball players: a report of three cases and literature review.

Isolated subtalar dislocations (SDs) are rare injuries, representing only 1% of all foot traumas. In the current literature, only a few reports have described this acute injury as a consequence of low-middle-energy trauma during sports activities and none in professional or recreational volleyball players. Further, to the best of our knowledge, no validated standard rehabilitation programs have been described for SDs as most of them are usually treated like an ankle sprain. This report describes 3 cases of isolated, closed medial SD, which occurred during non-professional volleyball activities

Peripheral nerve blocks in patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hypermobility type: a report of 2 cases.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is an inherited disorder of collagen production that results in multiorgan dysfunction. Patients with hypermobility type display skin hyperextensibility and joint laxity, which can result in chronic joint instability, dislocation, peripheral neuropathy, and severe musculoskeletal pain. A bleeding diathesis can be found in all subtypes of varying severity despite a normal coagulation profile. There have also been reports of resistance to local anesthetics in these patients. Several sources advise against the use of regional anesthesia in these patients citing the 2 previo

Plantar medial wounds associated with calcaneal fractures.

BACKGROUND: Calcaneal fractures with open wounds are prone to soft tissue complications. We describe a particular subclass of open injury that occurs on the plantar surface of the foot, medial to the anterior process of the calcaneus, the plantar medial wound (PMW). The purpose of this study was to evaluate soft tissue healing and potential complications in open calcaneal fractures that have a PMW. METHODS: We established the time to soft tissue healing and the status of the injured limb of 11 adults with 12 calcaneal fractures with a PMW. This was a retrospective review of prospectively gath

Modular megaprosthesis in metastatic bone disease of the femur.

The treatment of bone metastases is frequently palliative, aiming to achieve satisfactory pain control and to prevent or treat pathological fractures. For lesions involving the femur, internal fixation frequently fails; therefore, prosthetic reconstruction may be the optimal choice for treatment. This article retrospectively reviews our experience with femoral bone metastases between 1999 and 2008. A series of 22 patients (14 men and 8 women; mean age, 61.8 years) with femoral bone metastases were treated with resection and modular megaprosthetic reconstruction. Bipolar hip prostheses were use
