Peripheral ossifying fibroma mimicking oral Kaposi's sarcoma in an immunosuppressed patient with Behçet's disease: a case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is an HHV-8-associated angioproliferative neoplasm occurring preferentially in immunosuppressed individuals, with oral involvement documented in up to 65% of HIV/AIDS patients. Several benign reactive gingival lesions, including peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF), may clinically mimic oral KS, creating a significant diagnostic challenge. In patients with established systemic KS, newly detected oral lesions carry a high risk of diagnostic anchoring bias, making HHV-8 (LANA-1) immunohistochemistry indispensable for definitive diagnosis. PRESENT

Juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma of the ethmoid sinus successfully treated by endoscopic sinus surgery: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Juvenile ossifying fibromas (JOF) are benign osteofibrous tumors very rarely located in paranasal sinus. The diagnostic and therapeutic tools applied in sinonasal inflammatory pathologies and other tumors fail to address a specific management in this rare pathology. Currently, the only available treatment is surgery. Endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) allows a complete but minimally invasive approach compared to the open technique, especially for the minor demolition on growing bone structures. CASE DESCRIPTION: We describe a case of a 13-year-old boy presenting in the Emergency Depar

Familial isolated hyperparathyroidism due to multiple adenomas associated with ossifying jaw fibroma and multiple uterine adenomyomatous polyps.

We describe three siblings with hyperparathyroidism due to multiple parathyroid adenomas without evidence of other endocrinological abnormalities. A 22-year-old woman had two parathyroid adenomas complicated by multiple ossifying jaw fibromas. Her sister, aged 29, also suffered from primary hyperparathyroidism associated with two parathyroid adenomas one of which was also suspected to be a carcinoma. These two female patients had unusual multiple small uterine polyps, which were diagnosed as adenomyomatous polyps. Their brother, aged 17, had two parathyroid adenomas complicated by urolithiasis

Unusual location of sinonasal ossifying fibroma of the posterior ethmoid sinus: a case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Ossifying fibroma is a benign, well-demarcated fibro-osseous neoplasm that most commonly affects the mandible and maxilla. Involvement of the paranasal sinuses is rare, and ethmoid sinus localization is particularly uncommon. Because sinonasal ossifying fibroma may mimic other fibro-osseous and osseous lesions radiologically, histopathologic confirmation and complete excision are important for diagnosis and disease control. CASE PRESENTATION: A 43-year-old Saudi man with well-controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus presented with a 6-month history of progressive right

Sturge-Weber syndrome with cemento-ossifying fibroma in the maxilla and giant odontoma in the mandible: A case report.

Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a neurocutaneous syndrome with vascular lesions of the cerebral meninges, port wine spots on the face, and glaucoma of the eyes; it is a congenital, non-genetic disease whose etiology and mechanisms are unknown. In this report, we describe a rare case of SWS with unilateral large odontogenic tumors in the maxilla and mandible. The histopathological diagnosis of the maxillary bone lesion on biopsy was juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma, which is considered a type of ossifying fibroma of craniofacial bone origin. However, the final pathological diagnosis of th

Non-ossifying fibroma of the mandible in a 4-year-old child: A rare case and review of the literature.

Non-ossifying fibromas usually occur in the metaphysis of the long bones in children, and are extremely rare in the mandible. Here, we present a case of non-ossifying fibromas which occurred in the mandible of a 4-year-old boy. The patient had no complaint of ache. Laboratory blood examination of serum calcium, phosphorus, and parathormone levels was normal. Computed tomography of the maxillofacial region showed a well-defined osteolytic lesion affecting the right mandible. Microscopically, the lesion showed whorled bundles of spindle-shaped fibroblasts, as well as foam cells, mingled with sca

Rhabdomyosarcoma With FUS::TFCP2 Fusion in the Mandible: A Rare Aggressive Subtype, but Can Be Misdiagnosed as Ossifying Fibroma.

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) with TFCP2 rearrangement has been identified recently. This entity has a distinctive clinicopathologic features: a rapidly aggressive clinical course, a preference for the craniofacial bones, a spindle and epithelioid histomorphology, and positive immunohistochemistry for epithelial markers, ALK, and myogenic markers. RMS with TFCP2 rearrangement is rare and may be misdiagnosed as other spindle cell tumors. Here, we report a case of this entity arising in the mandible, which was initially diagnosed as ossifying fibroma in primary tumor in another hospital. A 26-year-old

Ossifying Fibroma of Non-odontogenic Origin: A Fibro-osseous Lesion in the Craniofacial Skeleton to be (Re-)considered.

In the cranio-facial skeleton, a heterogeneous group of well characterized fibro-osseous lesions can be distinguished. Whereas fibrous dysplasia can affect any skeletal bone, ossifying fibroma and cemento-osseous dysplasia exclusively develop in the cranio-facial region, with most subtypes restricted to the tooth bearing areas of the jaws. Herein we present a series of 20 fibro-osseous lesions that developed mostly in the frontal bone and in the mandible, presenting as expansile intramedullary tumors with a unique histologic appearance and an indolent clinical course. We provide evidence that

Quantitative proteomic study reveals differential expression of matricellular proteins between fibrous dysplasia and cemento-ossifying fibroma pathogenesis.

BACKGROUND: Fibrous dysplasia (FD) and cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF) are the most common gnathic fibro-osseous lesions. These diseases exhibit remarkable overlap of several clinicopathological aspects, and differential diagnosis depends on the combination of histopathological, radiographic, and clinical aspects. Their molecular landscape remains poorly characterized, and herein, we assessed their proteomic and phosphoproteomic profiles. METHODS: The quantitative differences in protein profile of FD and COF were assessed by proteomic and phosphoproteomic analyses of formalin-fixed paraffin-e

A rare case of psammomatoid ossifying fibroma in the sphenoid bone reconstructed using autologous particulate exchange cranioplasty.

Psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (POF), a variant of ossifying fibroma, is a benign fibroosseous lesion typically arising within the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, and orbit. Cranial vault involvement is exceedingly rare, with very few cases reported in the literature. The authors report a case of POF in the neurocranium of an 11-year-old child, 4 years after chemotherapy and radiation therapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This case is reported in view of its rarity, novelty of presentation, and the difficulty in diagnosis due to its radiological resemblance to aneurysmal bone cyst or mono

Aggressive Juvenile Trabecular Ossifying Fibroma in a 4-Year-Old: Case Report Bringing Diagnostic Challenges and Surgical Management.

Juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma (JTOF) is an uncommon benign fibro-osseous neoplasm of the craniofacial skeleton that predominantly affects children and may clinically and radiographically resemble other aggressive lesions. We describe the case of a 4-year-old boy with a rapidly enlarging, painless maxillary mass. Imaging revealed a well-defined expansile lesion with internal radiopaque foci and ground-glass attenuation, extending into the nasal cavity and orbit. Histopathology showed immature trabecular bone with osteoblastic rimming in a fibroblastic stroma, along with aneurysmal bone

Analysis of Diagnosis and Treatment Strategies for Primary Juvenile Psammomatoid Ossifying Fibroma Complicated With Primary Aneurysmal Bone Cyst.

BACKGROUND: Juvenile Psammomatoid Ossifying Fibroma (JPOF) is a type of noncancerous bone tumor that usually affects adolescents in the craniomaxillofacial area. Clinical manifestations are usually symptoms caused by the tumor's invasive compression of surrounding tissues. Aneurysmal Bone Cyst (ABC) is also a benign bone tumor, and it typically occurs in long bones and the spine. Only 2% to 3% of cases occur in the head and neck. Due to the rarity of this combination of clinical cases, clinicians face difficulties in comprehensively understanding this complex lesion. Therefore, a comprehensive

[Double-way endoscopic surgery in a patient with cystic degeneration of maxillary sinus ossifying fibroma: a case report].

Ossifying fibroma is a rare benign osteogenic neoplasm arising from undifferentiated cells of the periodontal ligament and with a potential to form fibrous tissue, cementum and bone, which is usually in molar area of the mandible, predominantly seen in young girls. And ossifying fibroma poses diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties due to their clinical, radiological and histological variabilities. We report a rare case of an 18 year old girl with cystic degeneration of ossifying fibroma in maxilla which is an uncommon site of occurrence.

Sculpting Solutions: A Case Report of Resection and Reconstruction in an Aggressive Mandibular Juvenile Ossifying Fibroma and Review of Literature.

Juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) is a rare, benign, yet locally aggressive fibro-osseous lesion that primarily affects children and adolescents. This case report describes a 10-year-old female patient presenting with a three-month history of progressive swelling on the right lower third of her face, accompanied by trismus. Clinical examination revealed a firm, non-tender swelling extending from the right corner of the mouth to the angle of the mandible, with buccal cortical expansion and vestibular tenderness near the mandibular right second molar. Radiographic imaging demonstrated ill-defined

Spontaneous Regression of Ossifying Fibroma in the Oral and Maxillofacial Region: A Rare Case With 4-Year Follow-Up.

The case presented in this study is a rare instance of an ossifying fibroma (OF), a type of benign fibro-osseous lesions, spontaneously regressed without surgical intervention. A 9-year-old boy with an intraosseous lesion in the left maxilla was diagnosed as OF. The surgeon suggested surgical excision, but due to personal reasons, the patient and his parents deferred the surgery and opted for regular follow-up. During a 4-year follow-up, the surgeon found that the lesion had significantly decreased in size and the facial deformity had remitted. At the latest follow-up, the deformity of his lef
