We report the first case of glossal necrotizing myositis by group A beta-hemolytic Streptococcus in an 8-year-old girl on chronic nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, immunomodulators, and steroids for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Treatment included partial glossectomy and parenteral antibiotics. After a critical course, full recovery ensued. The subject of necrotizing myositis is reviewed.

The literature proposes some indications for tumor excision even though type of intervention, resection margins, neck dissection, and 'en bloc' resection versus separate excision of tumor and lymph nodes do not seem to be standardized. The interest we see in oral pathology about Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome is not strictly related to the association with neoplasms of the syndrome but, first of all, to the high frequency of macroglossia in the patients affected. In fact this pathologic situation, setting up since birth, can strongly modify the growth of teeth and facial skeleton. Therapy consists in a partial glossectomy.
