Small intestinal medullary carcinoma (MC) is a newly recognized subclass of small intestinal carcinomas and is an exceptional entity for this site. A 60-year-old Khmer woman visited a hospital established by a Japanese non-profit organization in the Kingdom of Cambodia with complaints of swelling in the left abdomen and appetite loss for 2 months. Abdominal computed tomography scan showed a mass measuring 14.6×13.4×19.3 cm with internal necrosis in the left abdomen. Since a broad spectrum of tumors can occur in the small bowels, it is not easy to make a correct differential diagnosis among small bowel tumors on CT findings. Therefore, once a mass is detected on CT, the radiologist needs to analyze the mass based on presenting patterns such as location, multiplicity, morphology, and enhancement patterns. In this article, we will illustrate various kinds of small bowel tumors based on imaging patterns at CT to facilitate making a correct diagnosis.

A 77-year-old patient was admitted to our hospital for the further examination of melena. A computed tomography scan detected two submucosal tumors (SMTs) in the stomach and jejunum. Double-balloon endoscopy revealed the presence of a delle on the jejunal SMT, suggesting that the SMT was the origin of the gastrointestinal bleeding. We report an extremely rare finding 'congenital absence of jejunum and ileum' during explorative laparotomy of a 16-day-old female neonate. The dilated duodenum was terminating blindly, and the next segment of intestine was a peanut-sized cecum followed by microcolon. On an extensive survey of literature this type of intestinal atresia is not reported in living babies.

BACKGROUND: Hydrogen sulfide (H2 S) is endogenously generated from L-cysteine (L-Cys) by the enzymes cystathionine-β-synthase (CBS) and cystathionine-γ-Lyase (CSE). Hydrogen sulfide is also produced from D-cysteine (D-Cys) by D-Amino acid oxidase (DAO).
