[Jadassohn's nevus sebaceus and nevus unius lateris. Report of an observation with multiple dysplasia (author's transl)].

The case of a female patient with multiple ectodermal and mesodermal malformations present since birth is reported. The cutaneous lesions were of two types: Jadassohn's nevus sebaceus and nevus unius lateris. These entities have been described in the literature as congenital dermatologic alterations of nevoid character and organoid structure. They can be considered as congenital epidermal nevi. In many cases, including this one, there are various associated disorders especially of the nervous system, eyes, and skeleton. Both syndromes are cutaneous hamartomas which can be differentiated histol…

Giant congenital melanocytic nevus (bathing trunk nevus) associated with lipoma and neurofibroma: report of two cases.

Giant congenital melanocytic nevi are rare and occur in about one out of every 2,00,000 to 5,00,000 births. There is a significant association between bathing trunk nevus and neurofibromatosis and lipomatosis. Apart from this, association of bathing trunk nevus with abnormalities like spina bifida occulta, meningocele, club foot and hypertrophy or atrophy of deeper structures of a limb, have been described. We are herewith reporting two cases of bathing trunk nevi. In our first case, an eight-year-old girl presented with a bathing trunk nevus studded with multiple, large nodules. Histopatholog…

Extensive speckled lentiginous nevus associated with giant congenital melanocytic nevus: an unusual example of twin spotting?

A 15-year-old boy had an unusual combination of giant congenital melanocytic nevus on his back and a large speckled lentiginous nevus arranged in a checkerboard pattern on the dorsal and lateral aspects of his trunk. The two pigmentary nevi showed distinguishing features both clinically and histopathologically. The speckled lentiginous nevus was not noted at birth but became visible during childhood. We hypothesize that this uncommon co-occurrence may represent a further example of twin spotting and may be categorized as a new, distinct type of phacomatosis.

Epilepsy in Epidermal Nevus Syndromes: Review.

Knowledge in the spectrum of epidermal nevi and epidermal nevus syndrome has been elaborated on and expanded rapidly through the years. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the neurologic manifestations of epidermal nevus syndromes (ENS), with a particular focus on epilepsy, which represents one of the most disabling and frequent systemic complications. Although ENS comprises a heterogeneous group of neurocutaneous syndromes unified by the presence of epidermal hamartomas and extracutaneous involvement, the relationship between genotype, cutaneous phenotype, and seizure pheno…

CAVITARY CHOROIDAL NEVUS: A CASE REPORT.

PURPOSE: To describe a case of choroidal nevus with intralesional cavitations detected with enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography and to show its changes during an 8-year follow-up. METHODS: A case report. RESULTS: A 55-year-old male patient was found to have a pigmented lesion at the posterior pole of his right eye, just temporal to the fovea. A complete multiimaging examination was obtained and showed a lesion of about 4 mm of diameter with a small amount of subretinal fluid and chronic changes in the retina overlying the lesion. Based on clinical examination, a diagnosis of …

Becker's nevus syndrome: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Becker's nevus syndrome is a syndrome characterized by the presence of a Becker's nevus with ipsilateral breast hypoplasia or hypoplastic defects of the muscle, skin, or skeleton. The nevus usually consists of a circumscribed, unilateral, irregularly shaped hyperpigmented macule, commonly occurring around the anterior upper trunk, with/without hypertrichosis and/or acneiform lesions. This rare syndrome has not been reported in our locality to the best of our knowledge. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 15-year-old Igbo female patient who presented to our pediatric endocri…

[Multimodal imaging in atypical choroidal nevus].

Choroidal nevi are frequent, asymptomatic, usually easy-to-diagnose lesions. They can cause macular syndrome in patients with choridal degeneration or neovascularization. In doubtful cases, the combination of different diagnostic means, such as clinical examination, ultrasound, fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green (ICG) can help to correct the diagnosis. We here report the case of a female patient with atypical choroidal lesion, in whom multimodal imaging allowed to retain the diagnosis of achromic choroidal nevus complicated by choroidal neovascularization.

Eccrine Poroma Arising within Nevus Sebaceous.

Secondary neoplasms in nevus sebaceous can develop during adolescence and adulthood. Trichoblastoma and syringocystadenoma papilliferum are the most common benign neoplasms, but poroma is rarely reported. A 28-year-old female presented with an asymptomatic mass on the scalp. She has had a hairless lesion on the scalp since birth. A soft mass developed on that lesion four years prior. Physical examination revealed a localized 1 cm×2.5 cm-sized brownish, verrucous-surfaced plaque with a 1 cm×1 cm-sized pedunculated erythematous tumor on the scalp. We performed skin biopsy on both the plaque and …

Nevus-associated melanoma: facts and controversies.

Nevus-associated melanoma (NAM) is defined on histopathological basis by the coexistence of melanoma and nevus components. Melanomas developing on pre-existing congenital or acquired nevi are usually of the superficial spreading subtype and harbor the BRAFV600E mutation. NAM accounts for almost one-third of melanoma cases As compared to de novo melanoma, NAM develops on younger patients, is more frequently located on the trunk, and is associated with a high nevus count, light eye color and history of frequent sunburns. NAM has been regarded as a model to investigate melanoma origin. Molecular …

[Extensive connective tissue nevus in children].

BACKGROUND: Connective tissue nevus (CTN) is a rare condition of the extracellular matrix components that generally presents as papulae of normal skin colour. This condition may be syndromic or sporadic. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We report herein two isolated cases of extensive and infiltrative CTN in children at risk for subsequent joint stiffening. The pathology samples displayed respectively mixed hamartoma and a collagenoma. DISCUSSION: The onset of these lesions is often difficult to establish, since they are usually unnoticeable at first. When confronted with extensive CTN, the main differ…

Intralymphatic nevus cells in benign nevi.

The histogenesis of nevus cell aggregates in lymph nodes lesion is controversial, and various hypotheses have been used to explain their origin. One of them is the transport of cells from cutaneous nevi or lesions to lymph nodes, called mechanical transport theory. We investigated in our cases of benign nevi to obtain evidence to substantiate this theory. A total of 369 benign cutaneous nevi were prospectively evaluated in excisional biopsy samples. Immunohistochemical stainings for CD31 and podoplanin (D2-40) were performed in the cases with intralymphatic nevus cell aggregate (ILNA), suspect…

Eccrine Poroma Arising within Nevus Sebaceous.

Nevus sebaceous is a congenital, benign hamartomatous lesion, characterized by a yellowish to skin-colored, hairless, verrucous plaque on the head and neck region. In later life, a secondary tumor, either benign or malignant, can develop within nevus sebaceous. Eccrine poroma developing on nevus sebaceous is extremely rare. There are few case reports of eccrine poroma developing within nevus sebaceous. We report a case of a 30-year-old female who presented with a congenital, hairless, verrucous, yellowish lesion on the scalp and an erythematous nodule arising within the yellowish lesion for 8 …

Systematised epidermal nevus - a case report.

A 20-year-old female presented with raised skin lesions all over the body since birth. Clinical examination revealed multiple pigmented macules and hyperkeratotic papules seen along Blaschko's lines over the face, neck, trunk and both lower limbs. Histopathological examination revealed hyperkeratosis with moderated acanthosis and uniform pigmentation over basal zone. Systemic examination was found to be normal. A diagnosis of systematised epidermal nevus in the absence of epidermal nevus syndrome was diagnosed and the patient was asked to undergo carbon dioxide laser mediated destruction of th…

Becker's nevus with neurofibromatosis type 1.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 is an autosomal dominant disorder which primarily affects the growth and development of neural cell tissues. It presents as multiple tumor-like growths over the skin that arises from the nerves and is associated with other abnormalities like pigmentation over the skin and bone deformities. Becker's nevus or hairy pigmented epidermal nevus is a benign cutaneous hamartoma which is characterized by hyperpigmented macule with hypertrichosis. It is rarely associated with neurofibromatosis. We report a 22-years-old male with coexistent Becker's nevus and type 1 neurofibromat…

Dysplastic nevus associated with seborrheic keratosis.

Seborrheic keratosis is a common skin lesion which may coincidentally be associated melanocytic nevi. The authors describe a case of dysplastic nevus associated with seborrheic keratosis and discuss the clinical, dermoscopic, and histological findings of this association. They also discuss the association between seborrheic keratosis and other benign and malignant tumours.
