CervixFormer: A Multi-scale swin transformer-Based cervical pap-Smear WSI classification framework.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Cervical cancer affects around 0.5 million women per year, resulting in over 0.3 million fatalities. Therefore, repetitive screening for cervical cancer is of utmost importance. Computer-assisted diagnosis is key for scaling up cervical cancer screening. Current recognition algorithms, however, perform poorly on the whole-slide image (WSI) analysis, fail to generalize for different staining methods and on uneven distribution for subtype imaging, and provide sub-optimal clinical-level interpretations. Herein, we developed CervixFormer-an end-to-end, multi-scale swin t

Automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) meets artificial intelligence: a new accurate classification tool for BIRADS 3-4 breast lesions.

PURPOSE: Breast ultrasound (US) has often interpretation challenges (BIRADS 3-BIRADS 4 lesions), leading to a high demand for core needle biopsies (CNB). In this context, a computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) tool based on a machine-learning artificial intelligence, applied to images obtained with an automated breast ultrasound system (ABUS), could potentially provide more accurate diagnoses by instantly and automatically assessing the US lesion features and their level of suspicion. The aim of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of a CAD applied to ABUS images for BIRADS 3-4 lesions

Ultrasound-Based Detection of Fasciculations in Healthy and Diseased Muscles.

Involuntary muscle activations are diagnostic indicators of neurodegenerative pathologies. Currently detected by invasive intramuscular electromyography, these muscle twitches are found to be visible in ultrasound images. We present an automated computational approach for the detection of muscle twitches, and apply this to two muscles in healthy and motor neuron disease-affected populations. The technique relies on motion tracking within ultrasound sequences, extracting local movement information from muscle. A statistical analysis is applied to classify the movement, either as noise or as mor

Simultaneous Longitudinal Registration with Group-Wise Similarity Prior.

Here we present an algorithm for the simultaneous registration of N longitudinal image pairs such that information acquired by each pair is used to constrain the registration of each other pair. More specifically, in the geodesic shooting setting for Large Deformation Diffeomorphic Metric Mappings (LDDMM) an average of the initial momenta characterizing the N transformations is maintained throughout and updates to individual momenta are constrained to be similar to this average. In this way, the N registrations are coupled and explore the space of diffeomorphisms as a group, the variance of wh

A Comparative Study of IVIM-MRI Fitting Techniques in Glioma Grading: Conventional, Bayesian, and Voxel-Wise and Spatially-Aware Deep Learning Approaches.

BACKGROUND: Intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) analysis of diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) provides microvascular perfusion and diffusion information. However, parameter estimation is limited by noise sensitivity, variability across fitting methods, and lack of standardization. Deep-learning (DL)-based approaches, particularly spatially-aware transformers, may improve robustness, but their clinical utility remains unexplored. PURPOSE: To evaluate conventional, Bayesian, and DL-based IVIM fitting methods in glioma patients, focusing on tumor grading accuracy. STUDY TYPE: Retrospective. POPULAT

Enhanced Visualization of Intracranial Cortical Arteries Using Deep Learning Reconstruction in Vessel Wall MR Imaging.

This study evaluated the utility of deep learning reconstruction (DLR) in vessel wall imaging (VWI) for visualizing the entire cerebral arterial system, including cortical arteries. Seventeen patients underwent post-contrast 3D T1WI-CUBE VWI with 0.5 mm isotropic resolution. Images with and without DLR were compared using qualitative and quantitative assessments. Qualitative image quality was rated on a 4-point scale across 29 arterial segments, including the internal carotid, vertebral, basilar, and the 1st to 4th segments of the major cerebral arteries. Quantitative evaluation of the vertebr

Increasing the scan-efficiency of pulmonary imaging at 0.55 T using iterative concomitant field and motion-corrected reconstruction.

PURPOSE: To develop an iterative concomitant field and motion corrected (iCoMoCo) reconstruction for isotropic high-resolution UTE pulmonary imaging at 0.55 T. METHODS: A free-breathing golden-angle stack-of-spirals UTE sequence was used to acquire data for 8 min with prototype and commercial 0.55 T MRI scanners. The data was binned into 12 respiratory phases based on superior-inferior navigator readouts. The previously published iterative motion corrected (iMoCo) reconstruction was extended to include concomitant field correction directly in the cost function. The reconstruction was implemen

Optimizing pseudo-spiral sampling for abdominal DCE MRI using a digital anthropomorphic phantom.

PURPOSE: For reliable DCE MRI parameter estimation, k-space undersampling is essential to meet resolution, coverage, and signal-to-noise requirements. Pseudo-spiral (PS) sampling achieves this by sampling k-space on a Cartesian grid following a spiral trajectory. The goal was to optimize PS k-space sampling patterns for abdomin al DCE MRI. METHODS: The optimal PS k-space sampling pattern was determined using an anthropomorphic digital phantom. Contrast agent inflow was simulated in the liver, spleen, pancreas, and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). A total of 704 variable sampling and r

Soft tissue differentiation using multiband signatures of high resolution ultrasonic transmission tomography.

In this paper, we are interested in soft tissue differentiation by multiband images obtained from the High-Resolution Ultrasonic Transmission Tomography (HUTT) system using a spectral target detection method based on constrained energy minimization (CEM). We have developed a new tissue differentiation method (called "CEM filter bank") consisting of multiple CEM filters specially designed for detecting multiple types of tissues. Statistical inference on the output of the CEM filter bank is used to make a decision based on the maximum statistical significance rather than the magnitude of each CE

The oscillating micro-saw: a safe and pliable instrument for transverse osteotomy in rhinoplasty.

BACKGROUND: A low-to-low lateral osteotomy combined with a transverse osteotomy offers a reliable technique to mobilize the lateral walls in patients with broad bony vaults, but variable "brittling" characteristics of the nasal bones near the radix make it difficult to guarantee the result of manual transverse osteotomy. OBJECTIVES: The author describes a split-thickness transverse osteotomy with the aid of an oscillating micro-saw under video/endoscopic control to eliminate the risk of probable pitfall fractures on the structure of the bony nasal vault near the radix during blind manual oste

3-D guidance of complex pulmonary artery stent placement using reconstructed rotational angiography with live overlay.

Technologies which allow rotational angiographic image acquisition and three dimensional (3-D) vascular reconstruction with subsequent fluoroscopic registration for live 3-D image overlay are rapidly being adopted. We present the first use of rotational angiography with integrated 3-D image overlay for guidance during complex pulmonary artery stent placement. Technical considerations, advantages, and limitations of this procedural strategy are discussed.

Artificial intelligence iterative imaging reconstruction with low-dose CT scans for hepatic metastases.

Contrast-enhanced CT is commonly used in the evaluation of hepatic metastatic lesions. This prospective study aimed to assess the capability of artificial intelligence iterative reconstruction (AIIR) in low-dose CT for detection of hepatic metastases. Thirty-two patients with hepatic metastases were enrolled and underwent dual-phase CT scans in the venous phase. Each patient received a standard-dose (SD) scan (120 kVp, 180 mAs) followed by a reduced-dose (RD) scan (120 kVp, 30 mAs). All data were analyzed. Compared with the SD CT scan, the volume CT dose index (CTDIvol), dose length product (D
