X-Ray crystallography of dichlorodicyano- or tetrachloro-p-benzoquinone salts with polyether-ligated alkali metals reveals discrete supramolecular complexes: [{M(L)A}(2)]. The reaction between Carcinus maenas hemocyanin and cyanide has been used for probing protein conformation in the presence of perturbants such as various anions, cations (Ca2+, Mg2+), and aliphatic alcohols. Some effects of salts on the adenylate cyclase of partially purified plasma membranes from rat liver have been studied. Herein, we report a strategy employing chiral macrocycles for the in situ trapping of catalytically active anions, enabling highly efficient and enantioselective catalysis. By exploiting the strong anion-binding ability of tailored bis-thiourea macrocycles, active peroxotungstate species generated from a Na2WO4/Na3PO4/H2O2 system are selectively captured within a confined chiral cavity. A novel nickel-modified chitosan sorbent (CsNi), highly efficient in phosphates removal from aqueous solutions, was proposed.
