Lobular capillary hemangiomas (LCH), which usually originate in the skin and mucous membranes of the oral cavity, are uncommon from the posterior portion of the inferior turbinate. OBJECTIVES: The previously described S-point, corresponds to the medial projection of the middle turbinate axilla in the superior nasal septum and has been identified as a common source of severe epistaxis. The objective is to define the anatomical patterns of vascularization of the S-point area that could explain its clinical relevance.
METHODS: Thirty-three nasal septums of latex-injected formalin-embalmed and fresh human cadaveric heads were dissected to analyze the arterial arrangement of the S-point area. Measurements and patterns of vascularization were described.

In patients with keratitis sicca (exposure keratopathy) in whom treatment with topical tear solutions and ointments is not effective, closure of the lacrimal puncta is performed with insertion of plugs or by cautery, hypercation, or laser. If punctal occlusion fails with these modalities, surgical excision of the canaliculi is recommended. Canaliculectomy successfully relieved ocular irritation and keratopathy in three patients with keratitis sicca, with no complications (follow-up, 10 to 26 months).

A study involving 69 patients with chronic nonspecific rhinitis who did not benefit from medical treatment and were subjected to cautery to the inferior turbinate. Fifty-one (73.9%) benefited from the procedure with little or no complications.
