Effect of abutment screw channel angle and crown height on the screw stability of posterior monolithic zirconia crowns supported by tissue-level implants: An in vitro study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Angled screw channel titanium-base (Ti-base) abutments have been introduced for unfavorably positioned implants. However, knowledge on their screw stability in situations with compromised crown height space is lacking. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of abutment screw channel angle and crown height on the screw stability of monolithic zirconia crowns supported by a recently introduced implant-abutment connection, both after 24 hours and cyclic loading. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty tissue-level implants (TLX Standard Plus) were divid

Crown protein is dispensable for OmRV entry but required for efficient transmission.

Non-enveloped icosahedral dsRNA viruses, such as taxons of the Totiviridae family, have evolved surface features that enable infection of multicellular hosts through receptor binding and membrane penetration via the canonical endosomal pathway. Unlike totiviruses that infect unicellular hosts, toti-like viruses, including artiviruses, infect invertebrate multicellular hosts and possess an additional surface crown protein (CrP) on their conserved T = 1 icosahedral capsid. The mosquito-specific artivirus Omono River virus (OmRV) also expresses this CrP, which has been suggested to facilitate vir

Crown Ether-Functionalized Polyethersulfone Membranes with Potential Applications in Hemodialysis.

Polyethersulfone (PES) is one of the most used synthetic polymers for the production of hemodialysis membranes, due to its appropriate features, such as biocompatibility, high permeability for low-molecular-weight proteins, high endotoxin retention ability, and resistance to sterilization processes. However, there is room for improvement regarding their anticoagulant properties when coming into contact with blood. In the present study, commercial PES membranes were plasma-treated and then chemically modified with crown ether, an organic compound that could interfere with the coagulation cascad

An Uncommon Presentation of Crowned Dens Syndrome Without Systemic Inflammation.

Crowned Dens Syndrome (CDS) is a rare but important consideration in the differential diagnosis of cervical spine pain in older adults. CDS is characterized by calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate (CPPD) crystal deposition around the odontoid process, often leading to symptoms that overlap with more common conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), meningitis, or cervical spondylosis. We report the case of a 74-year-old male with chronic neck pain and restricted cervical range of motion. Advanced imaging revealed characteristic calcifications surrounding the odontoid process, pannus formation, a

[Crowned Dens Syndrome Mimicking Acute Meningitis in an Elderly Patient].

We report a case of an 82-year-old patient with crowned dens syndrome, who presented with symptoms mimicking acute meningitis. The patient exhibited severe acute cervicalgia, fever, arthritis of the wrists and hands, along with elevated inflammatory parameters. Acute meningitis was ruled out with a normal cerebrospinal fluid study. A computed tomography scan of the cervical spine revealed calcifications around the odontoid process, confirming the diagnosis of crowned dens syndrome (CDS). The patient showed a favorable response to treatment with prednisone. CDS is an uncommon presentation of ca

Efficacy of crown lengthening for restoration of maxillary anterior tooth defects.

OBJECTIVE: The appearance of the gingival tissue around the teeth is essential in the aesthetics of the anterior maxillary region of the oral cavity. Abnormalities in symmetry and contour can significantly compromise the appearance of the natural or restored dentition, so the outcome is highly relevant to treatment choice. This study evaluated the efficacy of crown lengthening for restoration of maxillary anterior tooth defects. METHODS: A total of 80 patients (87 affected teeth) diagnosed with maxillary anterior tooth loss in Ganzhou People's Hospital between May 2020 and August 2021 were re

One-piece endodontic crown fixed partial denture: Is it possible?

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Whether the replacement of a missing tooth with a fixed partial denture supported by an endodontically treated abutment could be improved with 1-piece endodontic crowns is unclear. PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the mechanical behavior of a fixed partial denture (FPD) according to the preparation of the abutment teeth (1-piece endodontic crown or complete crown) in terms of stress magnitude in the prosthesis, cement layer, and tooth. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A posterior model with 2 abutment teeth (first molar and first premolar) was modeled with a compu

Ultraconservative and Aesthetic Approach for Rehabilitation of Complicated Crown Fracture of Tooth.

Dental trauma is well considered to be a general health issue. The prevalence of tooth fracture in the anterior region looks for a conservative approach to treatment. Currently, a novel and ultraconservative approach is the most popular treatment option for the rehabilitation of the fractured tooth. Fragment removal and proper repositioning followed by retention of the tooth's fragments using adhesive techniques provides added benefits such as aesthetics, restoration of surface gloss, function, shape, and texture, as well as maintaining the tooth's position and original morphology. Satisfactor

Biocontrol of Wheat Crown Rot Using Bacillus halotolerans QTH8.

Fusarium pseudograminearum causes crown rot in wheat. This study aimed to assess the effects of the bacterial strain QTH8 isolated from Cotinus coggygria rhizosphere soil against F. pseudograminearum. Bacterial strain QTH8 was identified as Bacillus halotolerans in accordance with the phenotypic traits and the phylogenetic analysis of 16S rDNA and gyrB gene sequence. Culture filtrates of bacterial strain QTH8 inhibited the mycelial growth of F. pseudograminearum and resulted in mycelial malformation such as tumor formation, protoplast condensation, and mycelial fracture. In addition, bacterial

Fractographic analysis of lithium silicate crown failures during sintering.

The two-step production process of glass-ceramic dental restorations involves a computer-aided design/computer-aided machining step followed by a crystallization firing for the final material properties to be achieved. Certain firing parameters are believed to trigger spontaneous fracture of crowns during the cooling process. In this study, cooling fractures have been reproducibly observed and investigated using fractography combined with material (glass transition temperature) and process (cooling rate) characterization. Stress distribution was visualized using birefringence measurements. Fra

Crowned dens syndrome, yet another rheumatic disease imposter.

OBJECTIVE: Crowned dens syndrome (CDS) is defined as acute cervical or occipital pain due to a local inflammatory reaction related to calcifications in the ligaments surrounding the odontoid process. Virtually, all previous descriptions of CDS have related to calcium pyrophosphate dehydrate (CPPD) arthropathy. METHODS: We prospectively identified a total of twenty-four consecutive inpatients with Crowned dens syndrome from January 2016 to December 2017 in our institution. RESULTS: All patients (age range 54 to 87 years, 67% females) presented with acute onset pain in the upper neck and/or oc

Effect of Crown Angulation of Maxillary Incisor on Effective Arch Perimeter.

INTRODUCTION: It has been postulated that crown angulation and inclination has potential space implication within the arch. With the insight of space implication of the axial relations of teeth, cases of genuine tooth size discrepancies can be dealt with improved stability. AIM: This in vitro study was designed to investigate and quantify the influence of angulation and inclination of maxillary incisors on the effective arch perimeter. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Acrylic teeth were arranged over typhodont frame with spaced maxillary anterior segment. Known value of tip and torque in increments we

Crown Ethers: Novel Permeability Enhancers for Ocular Drug Delivery?

Crown ethers are cyclic molecules consisting of a ring containing several ether groups. The most common and important members of this series are 12-crown-4 (12C4), 15-crown-5 (15C5), and 18-crown-6 (18C6). These container molecules have the ability to sequester metal ions, and their complexes with drugs are able to traverse cell membranes. This study investigated 12C4, 15C5, and 18C6 for their ability to increase solubility of ocular drugs and enhance their penetration into the cornea. Phase solubility analysis determined crown ethers' ability to enhance the solubility of riboflavin, a drug us
