Tissue damage caused by oxidative stress has been implicated in aging, carcinogenesis, atherosclerosis and neurodegeneration. PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of clofarabine, a novel deoxyadenosine analog, in pediatric patients with refractory or relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: In a phase II, open-label, multicenter study, 61 pediatric patients with refractory or relapsed ALL received clofarabine 52 mg/m2 intravenously over 2 hours daily for 5 days, every 2 to 6 weeks. BACKGROUND: Cordycepin requires the relatively toxic co-drug, deoxycoformycin, for full efficacy as an anticancer agent. We sought to improve cordycepin efficacy using other, less toxic co-drugs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We evaluated the ability of hydroxyurea (HU) to enhance the effects of cordycepin against MOLT-4 leukemia cells with the MTT cell viability assay. INTRODUCTION: Hairy cell leukaemia (HCL) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder. Treatment options available are splenectomy, interferon, DCF and 2-CdA. 2-CdA is considered to have curative potential as proved by the other studies.
METHODS: We gave 2-CdA in a dose of 0.09/kg/day as a continuous infusion in sixteen patients of hairy cell leukaemia.
RESULTS: Three patients developed neutropenia post transfusion. At the end of three months all patients were in remission. Two patients relapsed at the median follow-up of 15 months.
