UNLABELLED: Medialization thyroplasty (type I) is surgical procedure performed on the thyroid cartilage. The major indication for this surgery is significant glottis insufficiency due to unilateral vocal fold paresis. OBJECTIVE: To find out frequency change parameters of four phonation methods (minimum, natural, maximum and falsetto maximum voices) and different maximum phonation persistent time (MPPT) of them in patients with glottis closure disturbance (GCD).
METHOD: With frequency spectrum analysis, the frequencies of four phonation methods were studied in functional GCD patients (150 cases) and normal human (60 cases).
RESULT: There were marked differences of voice frequencies between them not only in male but also in 5 female. And with the prolongation of MPPT, the voice frequencies also changed.

In addition to conventional endoscopic operation procedures for vocal fold lateralisation, laser surgery has been used to perform endolaryngeal arytenoidectomy by individual laryngologists during the past few years. With respect to a regular swallowing function, the endoscopic technique presented in this paper preserves the arytenoid cartilage. Instead, a submucosal cordectomy is performed and the mucosal flap is glued onto the endolaryngeal wound. This report is a retrospective analysis of 62 patients treated for early glottic carcinoma during the six-year period of January 1982 through December 1987. The authors report that the cancer has been controlled in 100% of patients. For invasive stage 1 tumors the radiation cure rate is 42 of 45 patients or 93%, and voice quality after treatment was usually normal.
