Combined treatment of ureteropelvic junction obstruction and renal calculi with robot-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty and laser lithotripsy in children: Case report and non-systematic review of the literature.

OBJECTIVE(S): The incidence of urinary tract stone disease is steadily increasing in both adult and paediatric populations. This condition develops due to different factors: dietary or metabolic alterations, infection, and congenital anatomic malformations. Standard indications and treatments for children are analogous to the ones indicated for adults. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, ureterorenoscopy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) should be preferred to more invasive techniques. Moreover, the introduction of laparoscopic and robot-assisted laparoscopic approaches have improved

Investigation of gaseous end products produced by thulium fiber laser lithotripsy of cystine, uric acid, and calcium oxalate monohydrate stones: A gas chromatographic and electron microscopic analysis.

Laser lithotripsy mechanisms can cause the chemical decomposition of stone components and the emergence of different end products. However, the potentially toxic end products formed during thulium fiber laser (TFL) lithotripsy of cystine stones have not been sufficiently investigated. The aim of our in vitro study is to analyze the chemical content of the gas products formed during the fragmentation of cystine stone with TFL. Human renal calculi consisting of 100% pure cystine, calcium oxalate monohydrate, or uric acid were fragmented separately with TFL in experimental setups and observed for

Single-operator holmium laser lithotripsy under direct peroral cholangioscopy using an ultra-slim upper endoscope in a patient with a large stone in the common bile duct.

In patients with complicated stones (e.g., large stones) in the common bile duct (CBD), advanced treatment modalities are generally needed. Here we present an interesting case of a large CBD stone treated with holmium laser lithotripsy, which was performed under direct peroral cholangioscopy using an ultra-slim endoscope. An 86-year-old woman underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography for a symptomatic large CBD stone. After the failure of sphincterotomy, balloon sphincteroplasty, and mechanical and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, we attempted to fragment the stone by pero

Successful management of multiple obstructing renal calculi in a 30-year-old patient with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease using Frequency-Doubled Double-Pulse neodymium: Yttrium - Aluminium garnet laser lithotripsy.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most prevalent genetic disorder that results in end-stage renal disease. Although ADPKD patients experience long disease trajectories, factors such as hypertension, proteinuria and renal calculi have been observed to lead to rapid renal function impairment in patients with ADPKD. Furthermore, due to the distorted anatomy that makes access to stone difficult, the management of nephrolithiasis in ADPKD patients is one of the several special situations in which urinary lithiasis presents management challenges. We report the case of a 30-

Does transurethral laser ureterolithotripsy justify its cost?

A prospective consecutive series of 64 patients who underwent transurethral laser ureterolithotripsy using a 7.2F semirigid ureteroscope was compared to the immediately preceding consecutive series of 98 patients who had undergone ultrasound lithotripsy using rigid 9.5F or 12.5F ureteroscopes. The distribution of the calculi by size and composition in both series was similar. There was a higher proportion of upper ureteral calculi in the laser lithotripsy series. The success rate for a first attempt at laser lithotripsy was 92.2% versus 71.4% for the ultrasound series (p less than 0.01). When

Intrarenal arteriovenous malformation following flexible ureterorenoscopy and holmium laser stone fragmentation: report of a case.

BACKGROUND: Flexible ureterorenoscopy (FURS) and holmium laser lithotripsy is currently considered as one of the treatment options for large renal calculi. It has been shown to be safer than percutaneous nephrolithotomy. The latter can sometimes be complicated by the formation of intrarenal arteriovenous malformation (AVM). AVM is extremely rare following FURS and laser lithotripsy. Indeed only one case has been reported on reviewing the literature up to June 2018. We report on the second case illustrating the possibility of developing this major complication following this procedure. CASE PR

Amplatz sheath for cystolithotripsy using Ho: YAG laser in female patients.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of cystoscopic lithotripsy, we performed Amplatz sheath technique using Ho: YAG laser. Maheshwari first reported the use of an Amplatz sheath in the female urethra in 1998, and Okeke et al reported the use of an Amplatz sheath for male patients during cystolithotripsy in 2004. The usefulness of the holmium (Ho): yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) laser lithotripsy is widely accepted, even for large bladder calculi. Since then, there have been no more reports of using the sheath with an Ho: YAG laser. TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS: We inserted the Amplatz sheath
