PURPOSE: We undertook a screening program between 2016 and 2019 to determine if trachoma was endemic in the Torres Strait Islands of Queensland, Australia.
METHODS: Eleven screening surveys assessing trachoma prevalence were undertaken in seven communities using the World Health Organization (WHO) simplified grading tool. Severe obesity is a growing health challenge, and some experience disabling functional problems despite major weight loss. In this case report, we present two male patients with giant pannus, resulting in limited mobility, recurrent infections, and social restrictions. Both underwent giant panniculectomy, removing 34.6 kg and 18.9 kg of tissue, respectively. Information on the incidence of eye disease in dogs, presented to the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, was extracted from the records of the ophthalmology clinic for the 5 years 1990-1995. The German shepherd dog and maltese each accounted for more than twice as many patients as any other breed. The most important diseases according to breed incidence were cataracts, glaucoma, corneal ulcers, progressive retinal atrophy, iris prolapse, pannus/pigmentation and keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Problem areas in private practice were clearly identifiable and arose for different reasons.

We report a case that demonstrates a difference in wound healing after laser in situ keratomileusis using microkeratomes with both superior and nasal hinges in a patient with bilateral superior corneal vascularization. Subsequently, the patient experienced lamellar keratitis, epithelial defects, and peripheral thinning in both eyes. Among 2,700 babies born in a maternity hospital there were 71 (2.6%) cases of eye sepsis, mostly mild. Forty-four of these cases were screened for inclusions of TRIC agent. Four certain positives and a further four very suggestive cases were found-an incidence of 18% of the cases of eye sepsis investigated. The true incidence is probably somewhat higher.Follow-up showed that even minimal and transitory eye sepsis from TRIC infection in the neonate can lead to permanent scarring of the conjunctiva and cornea, with or without pannus.
